AIM:To investigate the in vitro antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of the methanolic leaf extract of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis L.(NA).METHODS:The sample was tested using five in vitro antioxidant methods(1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazine radical scavenging activity(DPPH),hydroxyl radical-scavenging activity(-OH),nitric oxide scavenging activity(NO),superoxide radical-scavenging activity,and total antioxidant activity)to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant potential of NA and the total phenolic content(Folin-ciocalteu method).The extract showed good free radical scavenging property which was calculated as an ***:Ic50(Half maximal inhibitory concentration)of the methanolic extract was found to be 57.93μg·mL for DPPH,98.61μg·mL for-OH,91.74μg·mL for NO,and 196.07μg·mL for superoxide radical scavenging *** antioxidant capacity of the extract was found to be(1198±24.05)mg ascorbic acid for the methanolic *** radical scavenging activity observed in the extracts of NA showed a concentration-dependent *** in vitro scavenging tested for free radicals was reported to be due to high phenolic content in the leaf *** leaf extract of NA showed the highest total phenolic content with a value of78.48±4.2 equivalent mg TAE/g(tannic acid equivalent).cONcLUSIONS:***-tristis leaf extract exhibited potent free radical scavenging *** finding suggests that ***-tristis leaves could be a potential source of natural antioxidant.

Natural dyes taken from the barks of the tree caesalpinia sappan has been used in many consumer *** it is imperative to test the toxicity of this *** the present study an investigation was conducted to find out the toxic effect of aqueous extract of the dye *** in test animal Wister albino *** oral toxicity showed no clinical signs of toxicity and no mortality even at a dose level of 100–2000 mg/kg in 14 days observation *** a dose level above 2500 mg/kg was given for 28 days,no death was noticed up to the dose level 5000 mg/kg body *** weight of the tested rats was not significantly reduced,when compared with the control *** organ-body weight ratio of kidney,liver and abdomen did not change when compared to the control group in the observation *** less toxicity of the dyes of ***.

Utilisation of Green Synthesised Silver Nanoparticles for Water Quality Management

In the present study silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using leaves of bamboo plant, Bambus vulgaris and the size of the nanoparticles was confirmed using XRD, EDAX, SEM, TEM, PSA analysis. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized NPs showed a good antibacterial activity against the waterborne isolates, E. coli, Staphyllococcus aureus, Vibrio cholera and Salmonella sp. Further the anti algal activity of the NPs was tested against the algae, Dictyosphaerium pulchellum, and Algoriphagus chordate. The SEM studies revealed that the AgNPs breaks the cell wall of algae and inhibits the growth. The safe dose of AgNPs can be used in aquaculture farms, household water tanks and other small water bodies to wipe out waterborne pathogens and algal bloom.
