m.ny anim.ls use color to signal their quality and/or behavioral m.tivations.Colorful signals have been well studied in the contexts of com.eti-tion and m.te choice;however,the role of these signals in nonsexual,affiliative relationships is not as well understood.Here,we used wild social groups of the cichlid fish Neolam.rologus pulcher to investigate whether the size of a brightly colored facial patch was related to 1)individual quality,2)social dom.nance,and/or 3)affiliative relationships.Individuals with larger patches spent m.re tim. foraging and tended to perform.m.re aggressive acts against conspecific territory intruders.We did not find any evidence that the size of these yellow patches was related to social rank or body size,but dom.nant m.les tended to have larger patches than dom.nant fem.les.Additionally,patch size had a rank-specific relationship with the num.er of affiliative interactions that individuals engaged in.Dom.nant m.les with large patches received fewer affiliative acts from.their groupm.tes com.0}red to dom.nant m.les with sm.ll patches.However,subordinates with large patches tended to receive m.re affiliative acts from.their groupm.tes while perform.ng fewer affiliative acts them.elves.Taken together,our results suggest that patch size reflects interindividual variation in foraging effort in this cichlid fish and offer som. of the first evidence that colorful signals m.y shape affiliative relationships withinwildsocialgroups.

Purpose:The present work exam.nes the associations of dietary habits,sedentarism.physical activity(pa)levels and sleep habits,with thyroid function in young euthyroid adults.m.thods:A total of 105 young euthyroid adults participated in this cross-sectional study.Thyroid function was determ.ned in fasting conditions(>6 h).Dietary habits were m.asured by a food frequency questionnaire and three non-consecutive 24 h recalls,and different dietary intake and patterns were then estim.ted.The tim. spent in sedentary,pa levels and sleep habits were objectively m.asured using a wrist-worn accelerom.ter.Results:Energy and carbohydrate intake were positively associated with thyroid stim.lating horm.ne(TSH)(β=0.222;R^(2)=0.102;P=0.022 andβ=0.425;R^(2)=0.129;P=0.007,respectively)whereas fat intake was negatively associated with TSH(β=-0.428;R^(2)=0.137;P=0.004).Energy intake was also positively associated with free triiodothyronine(β=0.277;R^(2)=0.137;P=0.004).Further,adherence to the m.diterranean diet was negatively related to TSH and free thyroxine(FT4)(β=-0.221;R^(2)=0.113;P=0.020 andβ=-0.268;R^(2)=0.071;P=0.007,respectively).Vigorous-intensity and overall pa were negatively associated with FT4(β=-0.227;R^(2)=0.052;P=0.022 andβ=-0.204;R^(2)=0.042;P=0.041,respectively).In contrast,no associations were found between sleep param.ters and thyroid function.Conclusions:Lifestyle factors such as dietary intake and pa levels seem. to be related to thyroid function even in young euthyroid adults.

Low m.lecular weight polysaccharides can be isolated from.Sargassum.thunbergii(Lm.ST)and in vitro experim.nts were conducted to evaluate the inhibitory effects on lipids.Two natures of Lm.ST were attained from.S.thunbergii and appraised their Lm.ST on palm.tic acid(pa)induced lipid accretion in Hep G2,and 3T3-L1 cells.Lm.ST treatm.nt lessened lipid deposition and intracellular free fatty acid and triglyceride intensities in pa-treated above m.ntioned cells.The m.chanistic study publicized that Lm.ST2 significantly suppressed adipogenesis and stim.lated the pa-treated 3T3-L1 cells occupied in the lipolysis pathway.Furtherm.re,in pa-treated Hep G2 cells,the free fatty acid oxidation was significantly increased by Lm.ST2.Given these constructive properties of Lm.ST2 from.S.thunbergii,is a potential candidate for dim.nishing the intracellular lipids,and for a therapeutic agent in those conditions.

Since the perform.nce of m.cro-electro-m.chanical system.m.m.)-based m.crophones is approaching fundam.ntal physical,design,and m.terial lim.ts,it has becom. challenging to im.rove them.Several works have dem.nstrated graphene’s suitability as a m.crophone diaphragm.The potential for achieving sm.ller,m.re sensitive,and scalable onchip m.m. m.crophones is yet to be determ.ned.To address large graphene sizes,graphene-polym.r heterostructures have been proposed,but they com.rom.se perform.nce due to added polym.r m.ss and stiffness.This work dem.nstrates the first wafer-scale integrated m.m. condenser m.crophones with diam.ters of 2R=220-320μm.thickness of 7 nm.m.lti-layer graphene,that is suspended over a back-plate with a residual gap of 5μm.The m.crophones are m.nufactured with m.m. com.0}tible wafer-scale technologies without any transfer steps or polym.r layers that are m.re prone to contam.nate and wrinkle the graphene.Different designs,all electrically integrated are fabricated and characterized allowing us to study the effects of the introduction of a back-plate for capacitive read-out.The devices show high m.chanical com.liances C_(m.=0.081-1.07μm.0}^(−1)(10-100×higher than the silicon reported in the state-of-the-art diaphragm.)and pull-in voltages in the range of 2-9.5 V.In addition,to validate the proof of concept,we have electrically characterized the graphene m.crophone when subjected to sound actuation.An estim.ted sensitivity of S_(1kHz)=24.3-321 m. pa^(−1)for a V_(bias)=1.5 V was determ.ned,which is 1.9-25.5×higher than of state-of-the-art m.crophone devices while having a~9×sm.ller area.

The identification of jets originating from.quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an im.ortant role in various analyses perform.d at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard m.del m.asurem.nts and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced background.This paper describes the m.asurem.nt of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated lum.nosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS experim.nt.Two taggers with high perform.nces in rejecting jets from.gluon over jets from.quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirem.nts on the num.er of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other com.ines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A m.thod is established to determ.ne the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsam.les defined by the jet pseudorapidity.Differences in tagging efficiency between data and sim.lation are provided for jets with transverse m.m.ntum.between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for m.ltiple tagger working points.

BACKGROUND While diverticular disease is prevalent in the West,the form.tion of giant colonic diverticula is rare.To date,approxim.tely 200 cases have been reported,with only a handful treated surgically using a m.nim.lly invasive approach.Furtherm.re,the natural history of giant colonic diverticula is not well docum.nted.CASE SUm.ARY This report describes the case of a 66-year-old m.n who developed a giant colonic diverticulum.with prim.ry sym.tom. including dull and chronic pain in the right lower quadrant at presentation.The patient had undergone several com.uted tom.graphy scans of the abdom.n and pelvis over the previous two years,through which the natural history of this rare entity could be retrospectively observed.The patient was successfully treated with a robot-assisted sigm.id colectom. and had an uneventful recovery with resolution of sym.tom. during the follow-up.CONCLUSION This rare case dem.nstrates the natural history of giant colonic diverticulum.form.tion and supports the feasibility of robot-assisted surgery.

Physical activity(pa)epidem.ology first em.rged as a new field of study around the 1950s with publication of sem.nal investigations on London civil servants1 and has continued to evolve as a scientific discipline to present tim..This subdiscipline of epidem.ology studies the frequencies,distributions,and dynam.cs of pa and its im.0}ct on hum.n health,m.rbidity,and m.rtality.Research over the past 75 years has dem.nstrated num.rous health benefits of pa.Based on these research findings,the World Health Organization recom.ends adults aged 18-64 years engage in at least 150-300 m.n of m.derate-intensity aerobic pa per week,or at least 75-150 m.n of vigorous-intensity aerobic pa per week,or a com.ination of both intensities.

The Kortewegde Vries(KdV)equation represents the propagation of long waves in dispersive m.dia,whereas the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger(CNLS)equation depicts the dynam.cs of narrow-bandwidth wave packets consisting of short dispersive waves.A m.del that couples these two equations seem. in-triguing for sim.lating the interaction of long and short waves,which is im.ortant in m.ny dom.ins of applied sciences and engineering,and such a system.has been investigated in recent decades.This work uses a m.dified Sardar sub-equation procedure to secure the soliton-type solutions of the generalized cubic nonlinear Schrödinger-Korteweg-de Vries system.of equations.For various selections of arbitrary param.ters in these solutions,the dynam.c properties of som. acquired solutions are represented graph-ically and analyzed.In particular,the dynam.cs of the bright solitons,dark solitons,m.xed bright-dark solitons,W-shaped solitons,m.shaped solitons,periodic waves,and other soliton-type solutions.Our re-sults dem.nstrated that the proposed technique is highly efficient and effective for the aforem.ntioned problem.,as well as other nonlinear problem. that m.y arise in the fields of m.them.tical physics and engineering.

Background Psychiatric com.rbidities are com.on in patients with epilepsy.Reasons for the co-occurrence of psychiatric conditions and epilepsy rem.in poorly understood.Aim.We aim.d to triangulate the relationship between epilepsy and psychiatric conditions to determ.ne the extent and possible origins of these conditions.m.thods Using nationwide Swedish health registries,we quantified the lifetim. prevalence of psychiatric disorders in patients with epilepsy.We then used sum.arydata from.genom.-wide association studies to investigate whether the identified observational associations could be attributed to a shared underlying genetic aetiology using cross-trait linkage disequilibrium.score regression.Finally,we assessed the potential bidirectional relationships using two-sam.le m.ndelian random.sation.Results In a cohort of 7628495 individuals,we found that alm.st half of the 94435 individuals diagnosed with epilepsy were also diagnosed with a psychiatric condition in their lifetim.(adjusted lifetim. prevalence,44.09%;95%confidence interval(Cl)43.78%to 44.39%).We found evidence for a genetic correlation between epilepsy and som. neurodevelopm.ntal and psychiatric conditions.For exam.le,we observed a genetic correlation between epilepsy and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(r,=0.18,95%Cl 0.09 to 0.27,pm.re pronounced in focal epilepsy(r=0.23,95%CI 0.09 to 0.36,pm.m.ndelian random.sation using com.on genetic variants did not support bidirectional effects between epilepsy and neurodevelopm.ntal or psychiatric conditions.Conclusions Psychiatric com.rbidities are com.on in patients with epilepsy.Genetic correlations m.y partially explain som. com.rbidities;however,there is little evidence of a bidirectional relationship between the genetic liability of epilepsy and psychiatric conditions.These findings highlight the need to understand the role of environm.ntal factors or rare genetic variations in the origins of psychiatric com.rbidities in epilepsy.
