AIM： To investigate intestinal alkaline phosphatase （iAp） in the intestinal mucosa of children with inflammatory bowel disease （IBD）. METHODS： Colonic biopsy samples were taken from 15 newly diagnosed IBD patients and from 10 healthy controls. In IBD patients, specimens were obtainedboth from inflamed and non-inflamed areas. The lAp mRnA and protein expression was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting analysis, respectively. Tissue localiza- tion of lAp and Toll-like receptor （TLR） 4 was investi- gated by immunofluorescent staining. RESULTS： The lAp protein level in the inflamed muco- sa of children with Crohn＇s disease （CD） and ulcerative colitis （UC） was significantly decreased when compared with controls （both p 〈 0.05）. Similarly, we found a significantly decreased level of lAp protein in the in- flamed mucosa in CD compared with non-inflamed mucosa in CD （p 〈 0.05）. In addition, the iAp protein level in inflamed colonic mucosa in patients with UC was decreased compared with non-inflamed mucosa in patients with CD （p 〈 0.05）. lAp protein levels in the non-inflamed mucosa of patients with CD were similar to controls, lAp mRnA expression in inflamed colonic mucosa of children with CD and UC was not significant- ly different from that in non-inflamed colonic mucosa with CD. Expression of lAp mRnA in patients with non- inflamed mucosa and in controls were similar. Co-local- ization of lAp with TLR4 showed intense staining with a dotted-like pattern, lAp was present in the inflamed and non-inflamed mucosa of patients with CD, UC, and in control biopsy specimens, irrespective of whether it was present in the terminal ileum or in the colon. However, the fluorescent signal of TLR4 was more pro- nounced in the colon compared with the terminal ileum in all groups studied. First-line eradication of H pylori infection in Europe:A metaanalysis based on congress abstracts,1997-2004

AIM： To meta-analyse the European abstracts presented between 1997-2004 at the European Hpylori Study Group, United European Gastroenterology Week meetings and World Congresses of Gastroenterology. METHODS： The abstracts of randomized/controlled prospective studies were classified into groups based on first-line eradication schedules. The quality of the abstracts was checked by a validated score system. The pooled eradication rates （pER） and combined odds ratios （OR） were calculated and compared with the published meta-analyses. RESULTS： The pER of proton pump inhibitor-based （ppI） one week triple therapies was 81.4% （confidence interval, 95% CI： 78.5-84.5）. Ranitidine bismuth citratebased （RBC） triple regimens have an efficiency rate of 78.5% （95% CI： 70.5%-84.3%）（p = 0.28 vs ppI）. The OR for ppI effect vs RBC regimens was 1.1 （95% CI： 0.92-1.30）. H2 receptor antagonist-based triple therapies achieved 64.1% （95% CI： 52.6-75.6）（p = 0.02 〈 0.05 vs ppI）, the OR vs ppI regimens was 1.55 （95% CI： 0.72-3.78）. ppI-based double combinations were less efficient than triple regimens （pER： 55.0%, OR： 4.90, 95% CI： 2.36-9.70）. Quadruple regimens were successful in 82.6% （95% CI： 76.0-89.7）, the OR vs triple therapies was 0.80 （0.62-1.03）. Clarithromycin ＋ amoxicillin or nitroimidazole combinations were efficient in 80.5% （95% CI： 77.2-84.2） and 83.8% （95% CI： 81.7-85.9）, respectively. Amoxicillin ＋ nitromidazole therapies eradicated the infection in 73.5% （66.6-78.5）（p = 0.01 〈 0.05 vs clarithromycin-based regimens）. COnCLUSIOn： ppI/RBC-based triple therapies achieved comparable results with the meta-analyses. H2-receptor antagonists and ppI-based double combinations were less efficient. Triple and quadruple regimens were equally effective. Clarithmmycin ＋ either amoxicillin or nitroimidazole containing regimens were more effective than amoxicillin ＋ nitroimidazole combinations. Measurement of liver volume and its clinical significance in cirrhotic portal hypertensive patients

InTRODUCTIOnAccurate assessment of hepatic reserve function in cirrhotic portal hypertensive patients is important for selection of surgical procedure and evaluation of prognosis. The measurement of liver volume has been applied in clinic as widely as Child's class[1,2]. Limited by technical condition, measurement of liver volume in vivo has seldom been reported in China. Using double helix-spiral CT (Elscint CT Twin), the liver volume of 25 cirrhotic patients and 30 patients in controls was assessed, and a correlation analysis was made between the liver volume and preoperative natural shunting rate, portal vein flow, portal pressure and prognosis of cirrhotic patients.

Syntheses and characterization of the noble-metal substituted heptadecatungstodiarsenates

Four Dawson type heteropolyoxotungstates substituted by noble metals with the general formula (TBA)(n)[As2W17M(OH2)O-61], where M=pd-II, Ru-III, Ir-IV and pt-IV are prepared by filling thp meant site of thp lacunary percursor alpha(2)-K10As2W17O61. UV-vis and IR spectra are similar to the other transition metal substituted Dawson type tungstodiarsenates. EpR result provides direct evidence to identify the presence of noble metal cation. Electrochemical behavior investigated bg cyclic voltammetry irt acetonitrile displays four reversible one-electron redox couples attributed to the W(VI-->V) process of tungsten-oxo framework.

Evolutionary history and phylogeography of Scots pine (pinus sylvestris L.) in Europe based on molecular markers

In this review we summarized recent historical records and molecular studies on evolutionary history and phylogeography of Scots pine with focus on the European highly fragmented distribution area of the species. Fossilized pollen, plant micro- and macrofossil records provided evidences on the large-scale species’ range shifts and demographic changes during the Quaternary. populations of Scots pine were documented both in the glacial (incl. full glaciation) and interglacial periods. Recolonization of Europe after the glaciation originated from the (Sub) Mediterranean areas like the Balkan peninsula but also from around the Eastern Alps and the surroundings of the Danube plain. Fennoscandia and northern European Baltic regions were most probably colonized from two main directions, from Western Europe and from the Russian plain. Modern history of Scots pine was hardly affected by anthropogenic activities that started to strengthen in the Bronze and Iron Age. Along with the fossil records, molecular genetic tools were used to infer the origin and putative history including migration, differentiation and demography of the species. In this paper we compiled the major publications (30) of molecular genetic studies of the past 20 years derived from distinctly inherited organelle genomes (mitochondrial, chloroplast, nuclear) revealed by different marker systems (mtDnA-cox1, -nad1, -nad3, -nad7, ISSR, cpSSR, nSSR, B-SAp, Snp). It is important to consider that different phylogeographic patterns can be drawn by the analysis of different DnA marker types. Accordingly the use of more than one marker simultaneously outlines the most sophisticated phylogeographical pattern on the genetic lineages and can reveal high differentiation of the European distribution. Combined marker systems and markers derived from coding sequences have also been used to detect species’ phylogeographic patterns, but these were rarely applied to Scots pine. Almost Everywhere Convergence of Fejér Means of L^1 Functions on Rarely Unbounded Vilenkin Groups

A highly celebrated problem in dyadic harmonic analysis is the pointwise convergence of the Fejér （or （C, 1）） means of functions on unbounded Vilenkin groups. There are several papers of the author of this paper concerning this. That is, we know the a.e. convergence σnf → f （n → ∞） for functions f ∈ L^p, where p 〉 1 （Journal of Approximation Theory, 101（1）, 1-36, （1999）） and also the a.e. convergence σMnf → f （n → ∞） for functions f ∈ L^1 （Journal of Approximation Theory, 124（1）, 25-43, （2003））. The aim of this paper is to prove the a.e. relation limn→∞ σnf = f for each integrable function f on any rarely unbounded Vilenkin group. The concept of the rarely unbounded Vilenkin group is discussed in the paper. Basically, it means that the generating sequence m may be an unbounded one, but its ＂big elements＂ are not ＂too dense＂.
