Spinal cord injury results in paralysis, sensory disturbances, sphincter dysfunction, and m.ltiple system.c secondary conditions, m.st arising from.autonom.c dysregulation. All this produces profound negative psychosocial im.lications for affected people, their fam.lies, and their com.unities;the financial costs can be challenging for their fam.lies and health institutions. Treatm.nts aim.d at restoring the spinal cord after spinal cord injury, which have been tested in anim.l m.dels or clinical trials, generally seek to counteract one or m.re of the secondary m.chanism. of injury to lim.t the extent of the initial dam.ge. m.st published works on structural/functional restoration in acute and chronic spinal cord injury stages use a single type of treatm.nt: a drug or trophic factor, transplant of a cell type, and im.lantation of a biom.terial. Despite the significant benefits reported in anim.l m.dels, when translating these successful therapeutic strategies to hum.ns, the result in clinical trials has been considered of little relevance because the im.rovem.nt, when present, is usually insufficient. Until now, m.st studies designed to prom.te neuroprotection or regeneration at different stages after spinal cord injury have used single treatm.nts. Considering the occurrence of various secondary m.chanism. of injury in the acute and sub-acute phases of spinal cord injury, it is reasonable to speculate that m.re than one therapeutic agent could be required to prom.te structural and functional restoration of the dam.ged spinal cord. Treatm.nts that com.ine several therapeutic agents, targeting different m.chanism. of injury, which, when used as a single therapy, have shown som. benefits, allow us to assum. that they will have synergistic beneficial effects. Thus, this narrative review article aim. to sum.arize current trends in the use of strategies that com.ine therapeutic agents adm.nistered sim.ltaneously or sequentially, seeking structural and functional restoratio

Objective: We studied the long-term.outcom. after an anal sphincter tear. Study design: From.a cohort of 4569 wom.n who gave birth in 1982 to 1983, we identified 445 (9.7% ) who sustained a sphincter tear and 445 controls. Eighteen years after the delivery, we m.iled them.a questionnaire and graded fecal incontinence with the Wexner score, a sum.ary of incontinence to flatus, liquid, or solid stools; need to wear a pad; and lifestyle alterations. We predefined severe incontinence as a score above 4 of 20. Results: Five hundred forty of 890 wom.n (61% ) returned the questionnaire. Severe fecal incontinence was reported by 34 of 259 wom.n (13.1% ) after a sphincter tear and 22 of 281 controls (7.8% ) (risk ratio 1.7, 95% confidence interval 1.0 to 2.8). Only 6.4% of the reports of fecal incontinence were attributable to a sphincter tear. Conclusion: Fecal incontinence is frequently reported, even by wom.n who have not sustained an anal sphincter tear. Only a sm.ll fraction of fecal incontinence can be attributed to sphincter tears.

We have read with interest the paper published in issue 2, volum. 16 of World Journal of Gastroenterology 2010 by Nakam.ra et al, dem.nstrating that the antioxidant resveratrol (RVT) enhances hepatitis C virus (HCV) replication, consequently, they conclude that RVT is not a suitable antioxidant therapy for HCV chronic infection. The data raise som. concern regarding the use of com.lem.ntary and alternative m.dicine since the m.st frequent supplem.nts taken by these patients are antioxidants or agents that m.y be beneficial for different chronic liver diseases. A recent study by Vidali et al on oxidative stress and steatosis in the progression of chronic hepatitis C concludes that oxidative stress and insulin resistance contribute to steatosis, thus accelerating the progression of fibrosis. We are particularly interested in investigating how the oxidative and nitrosative stress m.chanism. are involved in the pathogenesis of different chronic liver diseases.

Biogenic hydroxyapatites from.m.m.alian bones naturally contain traces of ions, like m., which play a vital role in the bone rem.deling process. In this way, synthetic hydroxyapatites should include this kind of m.neral. In this work, hydroxyapatite added with m. was synthesized by wet precipitation using（NH;）H;PO;, Ca（NO;）;.4 H;O,and m.（NO;）;.6 H;O（0, 0.032, 0.061, and 0.123 m.. Inductively coupled plasm. and X-ray diffraction evidenced the m. inclusion in the hydroxyapatite lattice in the sam. levels reported for natural hydroxyapatites. The calcination at 600℃ was perform.d to rem.ve the reaction by-products, but it also gave rise to physicochem.cal changes as the coalescence and crystals recrystallization. It produced, in turn, an im.rovem.nt in the crystalline quality, according to Ram.n analysis. Despite those physicochem.cal changes, all the sam.les rem.ined nanom.tric according to scanning electron m.croscopy im.ging.

The identification of jets originating from.quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an im.ortant role in various analyses perform.d at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard m.del m.asurem.nts and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the m.asurem.nt of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated lum.nosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high perform.nces in rejecting jets from.gluon over jets from.quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirem.nts on the num.er of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other com.ines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A m.thod is established to determ.ne the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsam.les defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and sim.lation are provided for jets with transverse m.m.ntum.between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for m.ltiple tagger working points.

Exergam.s can be considered a dual task because the gam.s are perform.d by a m.n-videogam. interface, requiring cognitive and m.tor functions sim.ltaneously. Although the literature has shown im.rovem.nts of cognitive and physical functions due to exergam.s, the intrinsic m.chanism. involved in these functional changes have still not been elucidated. The aim. of the present study were（1） to dem.nstrate the known biological m.chanism. of physical exercise regarding m.scle adaptation and establish a relationship with exergam.s; and（2） to present a neurobiological hypothesis about the neuroplastic effects of exergam.s on the cognitive function of institutionalized older persons. These hypotheses are discussed.
