Sickle cell nephropathy:A review of novel biomarkers and their potential roles in early detection of renal involvement

Whether the underlying mutations are homozygous,heterozygous,or coinherited with other hemoglobinopathies,sickle cell disease is known to afflict the kidneys,leading to the clinical entity known as sickle cell nephropathy(SCN).Although common,SCN remains diagnostically *** studies performed in the context of renal disorders often fail to detect early stage *** makes the quest for early diagnosis and treatment more challenging,and it increases the burden of chronic kidney disease-related morbidity among *** diagnostic tools have been employed to overcome this *** this study,we discuss various biomarkers of SCN,including those employed in clinical practice and others recently identified in experimental settings,such as markers of vascular injury,endothelial dysfunction,tubulo-glomerular damage,and oxidative *** include kidney injury molecule-1,monocyte chemoattractant protein-1,N-acetyl-B-D-glucosaminidase,ceruloplasmin,orosomucoid,nephrin,and cation channels,among ***,we explore the potential of novel biomarkers for refining diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and describe some obstacles that still need to be *** highlight the importance of a collaborative approach to standardize the use of promising new ***,we outline the limitations of conventional markers of renal damage as extensions of the pathogenic process occurring at the level of the organ and its functional subunits,with a discussion of the expected pattern of clinical and biochemical progression among patients with SCN.

Use of Numerical Groundwater modeling to Assess the Feasibility of Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) in the Wadi Watir Delta, Sinai, Egypt

The lack of water resources in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula is a major constraint for further socioeconomic development, and flash floods in this region can damage roads and infrastructure. The Wadi Watir basin is the main water source for the groundwater aquifer, which supplies fresh water to Nuweiba city, where demands for groundwater are increasing. The objective of this research was to assess the hydrogeological suitability of installing Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) systems in the Wadi Watir delta by using numerical groundwater models. The developed models were used to evaluate the effects of hydrogeological and operational parameters on the recovery efficiency of ASR systems at five potential locations in the study area. As the estimation of recovery efficiency depends on the salinity of recovered water, the recovered water salinity limit was assumed as 150% of the injected water salinity, where 150% refers to the point at which recovery has ended because the concentration of recovered water reached 150% of that of injected water. The most important output from the model runs was that the recovery efficiency of these ASR systems ranged from 25% to 54% with a longitudinal dispersivity of 10 m, volume of injected water of 12,000 m3, and storage period of 180 days. The main conclusions are as follows. 1) Using coupled numerical groundwater flow and solute transport models is an effective tool for predicting the effects of mixing between injected water and ambient groundwater in ASR systems. 2) The groundwater aquifer in the study area is not suitable as strategic area for ASR systems because the thickness of the water storage layer is relatively small and the distance to the sea is very close;consequently, it is recommended that artificial recharge systems be developed with existing technology to replenish the groundwater aquifer in the Wadi Watir delta.

Floc meal as potential substitute for soybean meal in tilapia diets under biofloc system conditions

This study was conducted to evaluate the ef fect of replacing soybean meal(SBm) by low protein ?oc meal(LPFm; 24% CP) in tilapia diets on growth performance, feed utilization and ?sh chemical composition. Three isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets were formulated; control diet(C; without LPFm),Fm 25(25% of SBm protein was substituted by LPFm) and Fm 50(50% of SBm protein was substituted by LPFm). Nine 55 l circular plastic tanks were stocked by 12 ?sh to form three experimental *** dif ferences in tilapia performance were observed between the control and the Fm 25 diet. Chemical composition of ?sh did not dif fer signi?cantly among treatments except for protein and selenium contents where the highest values were recorded in the control treatment. The highest mineral content was recorded in ?oc collected from the control tanks, while calcium content showed its highest value in ?oc collected from Fm 50 e ? uent. These data indicate that replacing soybean meal with LPFm up to 25%, had no negative ef fect on growth performance and potentially may improve the system sustainability. meanwhile, the adverse ef fect of more inclusion of LPFm in tilapia diet may be attributed to the higher content of ash. In other word,minerals seem to cause more energy utilization in ?sh fed ?oc meal since it is needed to maintain osmotic homeostasis.

ImgFS： a transparent cryptography for stored images using a filesystem in userspace

Real-time encryption and decryption of digital images stored on end-user devices is a challenging task due to the inherent features of the images. Traditional software encryption applications generally suffered from the expense of user con- venience, performance efficiency, and the level of security provided. To overcome these limitations, the concept of transparent encryption has been proposed. This type of encryption mechanism can be implemented most efficiently with kernel file systems. However, this approach has some disadvantages since developing a new file system and attaching it in the kernel level requires a deep understanding of the kernel internal data structure. A filesystem in userspace （FUSE） can be used to bridge the gap. Never- theless, ctwrent implementations of cryptographic FUSE-based file systems suffered from several weaknesses that make them less than ideal for deployment. This paper describes the design and implementation of ImgFS, a fully transparent cryptographic file system that resides on user space. ImgFS can provide a sophisticated way to access, manage, and monitor all encryption and key management operations for image files stored on the local disk without any interaction from the user. The development of ImgFS has managed to solve weaknesses that have been identified on cryptographic FUSE-based implementations. Experiments were carried out to measure the performance of ImgFS over image files＇ read and write against the cryptographic service, and the results indicated that while ImgFS has managed to provide higher level of security and transparency, its performance was competitive with other established cryptographic FUSE-based schemes of high performance.

Background:Burn is a cutaneous injury that is caused by heat,electricity,chemicals,freezing,and *** and Objectives:This study aimed to differentiate between dry heat burn injury and other common cutaneous burn *** and methods:For this,different types of dermal burns were created experimentally in four groups of rats,5 rats for each,as the following:dry heat burn model,scalding model,chemical burn model,and electrical burn *** burnt skin and hair samples were subjected to scanning electron microscopic examination,molecular assay of aquaporin-3(AQP-3)gene expression,and histopathological ***:There were crakes,holes,and cuticular irregularity in hairs exposed to both dry heat and sulfuric acid(chemical burn),while the major lesion observed in hairs exposed to boiling water(scald injury)was cuticular cell *** the other hand,dry burnt skin showed empty orifices of the hair and sebaceous gland with overlapped smooth lamella,while scald induced irregularity of collagen *** sulfuric acid produces separation of the epidermis from the dermis and irregularity in collagen *** skin exposed to electric current appears with fissure,lacerated edges,and erected broken *** AQP-3 gene expression was significantly upregulated in the burnt skin of all experimental models in comparing with control rats,dry heat burned skin showed the highest upregulated *** addition,the coagulation of the dermoepidermal cells and vesicles formation were the most pronounced lesions observed in all types of burns,while scald was distinguished by appearance of elongated cellular ***:These observations suggest the possibility to differentiate between dry thermal burn,scald injury,chemical burn,and electrical burn using the combination between scanning electron microscopic examination,analysis of cutaneous AQP-3 gene expression,and histological investigation.

Securing Transmitted Color Images Using Zero Watermarking and Advanced Encryption Standard on Raspberry Pi

Image authentication techniques have recently received a lot of attention for protecting images against unauthorized *** to the wide use of the Internet nowadays,the need to ensure data integrity and authentication *** techniques,such as watermarking and encryption,are used for securing images transmitted via the *** majority of watermarking systems are PC-based,but they are not very *** watermarking methods need to be developed to accommodate real-time applications and provide *** paper presents hybrid data security techniques using a zero watermarking method to provide copyright protection for the transmitted color images using multi-channel orthogonal Legendre Fourier moments of fractional orders(mFrLFms)and the advanced encryption standard(AES)algorithm on a low-cost Raspberry *** order to increase embedding robustness,the watermark picture is scrambled using the Arnold *** watermarking is implemented on the Raspberry Pi to produce a real-time ownership verification *** sending the ownership verification key and the original image to the monitoring station,we can encrypt the transmitted data with AES for additional security and hide any viewable *** receiver next verifies the received image’s integrity to confirm its authenticity and that it has not been tampered *** assessed the suggested algorithm’s resistance to many *** suggested algorithm provides a reasonable degree of robustness while still being *** proposed method provides improved bit error rate(BER)and normalized correlation(NC)values compared to previous zero watermarking *** performance analysis is performed to demonstrate its *** a 256×256 image size,it takes only 2 s to apply the zero-watermark algorithm on the Raspberry Pi.

Performance evaluation of a WDm/OCDm based hybrid optical switch utilizing efficient resource allocation

A hybrid optical switch （HOS） with physical layer of wavelength division multiplexing and optical code division multiplexing （WDm/OCDm） scheme is proposed. An additional feature to the HOS than optical cross connect （OXC） is that the controller can process requests for both circuit establishment and burst scheduling. In our study, the measurement criteria of HOS are the blocking probability, probability of error, and probability of outage. To simplify the analysis, no distinction is made between a circuit in progress and a burst in progress. moreover, a minimum fit （minF） resource allocation strategy is applied in order to increase the bandwidth efficiency and control the multiplexing interference of the OCDm. A 2D markov model for the HOS is presented using the minF strategy. Numerical results reveal that the code parameters and the resource allocation strategy greatly affect the performance. Certain periority can be achieved by assigning shorter codes to high periority users and longer codes to low periority users. Also, the probability of error and outage are reduced bv aonling the minF strategy.

Brain tumor is one of the most dreadful worldwide types of cancer and affects people leading to *** resonance imaging methods capture skull images that contain healthy and affected *** checked the affected tissue in the slice-by-slice manner,which was timeconsuming and hectic ***,auto segmentation of the affected part is needed to facilitate ***,we have considered a hybrid model that inherits the convolutional neural network(CNN)properties to the support vector machine(SVm)for the auto-segmented brain tumor *** CNN model is initially used to detect brain tumors,while SVm is integrated to segment the tumor region *** proposed method was evaluated on a publicly available BraTS2020 *** statistical parameters used in this work for the mathematical measures are precision,accuracy,specificity,sensitivity,and dice ***,our method achieved an accuracy value of 0.98,which is most prominent than existing ***,the proposed approach is more suitable for medical experts to diagnose the early stages of the brain tumor.
