IL-6-deficient Mice Are Susceptible to Ethanol-induced Hepatic Steatosis:IL-6 Protects against Ethanol-induced Oxidative Stress and Mitochondrial Permeability Transition in the Liver

Interleukin-6(IL-6)-deficient mice are prone to ethanol-induced apoptosis and steatosis in the liver;however, the underlying mechanism is not fully *** dysfunction caused by oxidative stress is an early event that plays an important role in the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver ***,we hypothesize that the protective role of IL-6 in ethanol-induced liver injury is mediated via suppression of ethanol-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial *** test this hypothesis,we examined the effects of IL-6 on ethanol-induced oxidative stress,mitochondrial injury,and energy depletion in the livers of IL-6(-/-)mice and hepatocytes from ethanol-fed *** consumption leads to stronger induction of malondialdehyde(MDA) in IL-6(-/-)mice compared to wild-type control mice,which can be corrected by administration of *** vitro, IL-6 treatment prevents ethanol-mediated induction of reactive oxygen species(ROS),MDA,mitochondrial permeability transition(MPT),and ethanol-mediated depletion of adenosine triphosphate(ATP)in hepatocytes from ethanol-fed *** of IL-6 in vivo also reverses ethanol-induced MDA and ATP depletion in ***,IL-6 treatment induces metallothionein protein expression,but not superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase in cultured *** conclusion,IL-6 protects against ethanol-induced oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in hepatocytes via induction of metailothionein protein expression,which may account for the protective role of IL-6 in alcoholic liver *** & Molecular Immunology.2004;1(3):205-211.

Dynamic Routing Optimization Algorithm for Software Defined Networking

Time and space complexity is themost critical problemof the current routing optimization algorithms for Software Defined Networking(SDN).To overcome this complexity,researchers use meta-heuristic techniques inside the routing optimization algorithms in the OpenFlow(OF)based large scale *** paper proposes a hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm to optimize the dynamic routing problem for the large scale *** to the dynamic nature of SDNs,the proposed algorithm uses amutation operator to overcome the memory-based problem of the ant colony ***,it uses the box-covering method and the k-means clustering method to divide the SDN network to overcome the problemof time and space *** results of the proposed algorithm compared with the results of other similar algorithms and it shows that the proposed algorithm can handle the dynamic network changing,reduce the network congestion,the delay and running times and the packet loss rates.

Cardiac changes in infants of diabetic mothers

Diabetes mellitus(DM)is a systemic chronic metabolic disorder characterized by increased insulin resistance and/orβ-cell *** affects all ages from the foetal life,neonates,childhood to late *** diabetes is a critical risk factor for congenital heart diseases(CHDs).Moreover,the risk increases with low maternal education,high body mass index at conception,undiagnosed pregestational diabetes,inadequate antenatal care,improper diabetes control,and maternal smoking during *** DM significantly affects the foetal heart and foetal-placental circulation in both structure and *** defects,myocardial hypertrophy are three times more prevalent in infants of diabetic mothers(IDMs).Antenatal evaluation of the cardiac function and structures can be performed with foetal electrocardiography and *** cardiac evaluation can be performed with natal and postnatal electrocardiography and echocardiography,detection of early atherosclerotic changes by measuring aortic intima-media thickness,and retinal vascular changes by retinal *** the effects of diabetes during pregnancy on the offspring depends mainly on pregestational and gestational diabetes ***,other measures to reduce the risk,such as using medications,nutritional supplements,or probiotics,still need more *** review discusses the mechanism of foetal sequels and the risk factors that increase the prevalence of CHDs in gestational DM,the various cardiac outcomes of gestational DM on the foetus and offspring,cardiac evaluation of foetuses and IDMs,and how to alleviate the consequences of gestational DM on the offspring.

This paper answers three essential questions for audio speech cryptosystems in time and discrete transform *** first question is,what are the best values of sub-keys that must be used to get the best quality and security for the audio cryptosystem in time and discrete transform *** second question is the relation between the number of sub-keys,the number of secret keys used,and the audio speech signal block’s ***,how many possible secret keys can be used to get the best quality and security results for the audio speech cryptosystem in time and discrete transform *** audio cryptosystem discussed before in recent research is applied to answer the three previous *** simulation results and analysis answer all three questions;first,there is no specific,well-defined format or rule for sub-key values that must be used to get a better *** the second question,yes,there is a direct relationship between the number of applicable keys,number of available sub-keys,and block size of speech audio signal and formulated into a first-order *** the third question,each discrete transform domain has a specific acceptable range of sub-keys that imply a particular number of keys that can be used to get a better cryptosystem.

Audio communications and computer networking play essential roles in our daily lives,including many domains with different *** in these technologies are *** consequence,there is a dire need to secure these technologies up to *** paper presents an efficient model for secure audio signal transmission over the wireless noisy uncorrelated Rayleigh fading ***,the performance of the utilized multiple secret keys-based audio cryptosystem is analyzed in different transformation *** discrete cosine transform(DCT),the discrete sine transform(DST),and the discrete wavelet transform(DWT)are investigated in the utilizedmultiple secret key-based audio *** results show consistent results with the wireless noisy *** performance of the proposed multiple secret keys-based audio cryptosystem can be ranked concerning the employed domain as DWT,DCT,and DST transform *** simulation experiments proved that the presented multiple secret keysbased audio cryptosystemfor audio signals transmitted over the wireless noisy uncorrelatedRayleigh fading channel achieves reliable and secure wireless link utilizing combined multi security layers.

Novel self assembly behavior for γ-alumina nanoparticles

In this study, self assembly behavior was induced for γ-alumina nanoparticles by adsorption of dimethyl disulfide. Following this trend, we have developed a chemical process to obtain ＇y-alumina in the nano scale. Scanning electron microscopy images of the prepared γ-alumina showed big and strong agglomeration of the nanoparticles indicating that these nanoparticles have strong surface forces. Transmission electron microscopy images confirmed that the γ-alumina nanoparticles 3-7 nm in size were converted to uniform spherical shape in the size range of 1-2 mm after shaking with dimethyl disulfide in the presence of n-hexane at room temperature. This phenomenon did not appear in the case of alumina in the micro scale. The surface properties of the prepared γ-alumina in the nano scale were characterized and compared with the γ-alumina in the micro scale by using low temperature nitrogen adsorption-desorption system, indicating that the specific surface area of the prepared γ-alumina nanoparticles is larger than that of the γ-alumina in the micro scale. Furthermore, micro- and meso-pores were observed for the if-alumina nanoparticles while only mesoporous structure was detected for the γ-alumina in the micro scale. These experimental results suggested that the self assembly behavior of the γ-alumina nanoparticles may be due to the selective adsorption ofdimethyl disulfide in the micropores of these nanoparticles to act as bridge linking the nanoparticles.

Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Uraniferous Sandstones in Fault Zone,Wadi el Sahu Area,Southwestern Sinai,Egypt:Implications for Provenance,Weathering and Tectonic Setting

Paleozoic rocks in the Wadi el Sahu area are affected by many major faults in different directions.A reverse fault trending NE-SW is exposed for about 300 m of its length as it cuts through the Abu Hamata and Adedia formations on the south side of Wadi el Sahu.A secondary ascending hydrothermal solution carrying heavy metals and radioactive minerals passed through the fault plain and the surrounding fractures,forming mineralized and radioactive *** mineralized zone thickness ranges from 60 cm to 200 cm along the fault *** rocks were analyzed radiometrically using a portable gamma-ray spectrometer,chemically by employing ICP-ES and ICP-MS,as well as mineralogically by both binocular and Environmental Scanning electron *** content was also determined by fire *** and U contents reached up to 2682 and 1216 ppm,*** investigations indicated the presence of uraninite,torbernite,autunite,sklodowskite,kasolite as uranium minerals,thorite as a thorium mineral,monazite,allanite and xenotime as REE-bearing minerals,zircon and columbite as accessory minerals,gold and nickel as precious and base metals,in addition to cassiterite,chalcopyrite,chalcocite and *** REE and U contents are attributed to the circulation of epigenetic U and REE-bearing hydrothermal solutions along the fault plain and its surrounding *** alteration processes could then be confirmed by the presence of the M-type tetrad effect in the REE-patterns of the ferruginous *** non-chondritic ratio of Nb/Ta,Zr/Hf and Y/Ho in the studied sandstone may be attributed to the tetrad *** Ce and Eu anomaly with unusual REE-patterns was represented by the presence of conjugated M-W tetrad effects,indicating either the dual effect of hydrothermal solutions or groundwater with *** results clarify that the tetrad-effects could be used as evidence for the environment of deposition and as an indication for gold minerali
