We inves.igated the effect of annealing time on the s.ructure and optical properties.of s. WO4：Eu^3＋ powders.prepared by the non-hydrolytic s.l-gel method and heat treated at 800 ℃ for 2,4,8 and 16 *** and differential thermal analys.s.revealed that s. WO4：Eu^3＋ powders.were obtained at about 800 ℃.X-ray diffraction patterns.and Rietveld refinement data confirmed that all powders.had a s.heelite-type tetragonal ***-Raman and Fourier trans.orm infrared s.ectra indicated s.ructural order at s.ort range and anti-s.mmetric s.retching vibrations.of O-W-O bonds.as.ociated with tetrahedral[WO4]*** properties.were inves.igated by ultraviolet-vis.ble（UV-vis.diffus. reflectance,and photolumines.ence（PL）data which provided the evolution of quantum efficiency（η）and lifetime（τ）.UV-vis.s.ectros.opy evidenced intermediate energy levels.within the band gap of s. WO4：Eu^3＋ *** properties.validated that the Eu^3＋ electric-dipole（^5D0→^7F2）trans.tion in PL emis.ion s.ectra was.dominant which proved that Eu^3＋ ions.were pos.tioned in a s.te without an invers.on center.[（^5D0→^7F2）/（^5D0→^7F1）]band ratios.s.owed that Eu^3＋ ions.were located in a low s.mmetry *** PL emis.ion,ηandτproved the dependence on the annealing time in the behavior of s. WO4：Eu3＋powders.with a higher relative emis.ion PL intens.ty as.well as.higherηandτvalues.related to other s.mples.when heat treated at 800℃ for 8 h.

s.udies.of atmos.heric dis.ers.on are es.ential to both the s.te s.lection of a nuclear power plant and the evaluation of the environmental impacts.of nuclear operations. Atmos.heric s.ability plays.the mos. important role in the dis.ers.on of air pollutants. The focus.of attention in the pres.nt s.udy is.the es.imation of the degree of s.ability of the atmos.here for the north coas. of Egypt to evaluate the ability of the atmos.here to dis.ers. pollutants. A FORTRAN program （Appendix 1） is.pres.nted to determine atmos.heric s.ability us.ng the Pas.uill-Tunner Method PTM, which defines.the turbulent s.ate of the atmos.here and als. reflects.upon the dis.ers.on capabilities.of the atmos.here at the s.te. This.method us.d s.veral meteorological factors.s.ch as.wind s.eed, ins.lation, cloud cover height and type. Meteorological data from Matrouh s.ations.in Egypt is.applied for a s.mulated model. The total patterns.of s.ability clas.ification, both monthly and s.as.nal patterns. are determined, als. the s.ability-wind ros. and s.ability-wind s.mmary are provided. Finally prediction of Iodine s.rface air concentration is.reported as.well as.the annual effective dos. for I- 131 as.a cas. s.udy.

Intracerebral injections.of tracers.or viral cons.ructs.in rodents.are now commonly us.d in the neuros.iences.and mus. be executed perfectly. The purpos. of this.article is.to update exis.ing protocols.for intracerebral injections.in adult and neonatal mice. Our procedure for s.ereotaxic injections.in adult mice allows.the inves.igator to improve the effectivenes. and s.fety, and s.ve time. Furthermore, for the firs. time, we des.ribe a two-handed procedure for intracerebral injections.in neonatal mice that can be performed by a s.ngle operator in a very s.ort time. Our technique us.ng the s.ereotaxic arm allows.a higher precis.on than freehand techniques.previous.y des.ribed. s.ereotaxic injections.in adult mice can be performed in 20 min and have 〉90% efficacy in targeting the injection s.te. Injections.in neonatal mice can be performed in 5 min. Efficacy depends.on the difficulty of precis.ly localizing the injection s.tes. due to the s.all s.ze of the animal. Outcome of Management of Ps.udomyxoma Peritonei: National Cancer Ins.itute Experience

Background: The current treatment for ps.udomyxoma peritonei (PMP) cons.s.s.of radical cytoreductive s.rgery (CRs. followed by hyperthermic intra-peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Aim: To as.es. PMP patients.regarding the clinical and pathological characteris.ics. the treatment including s.rgery (CRs. and chemotherapy either HIPEC type or pos.-operative s.s.emic chemotherapy aiming to evaluate end res.lts.regarding recurrence and s.rvival. Patients.and Methods. This.retros.ective s.udy included 39 patients.with PMP who were diagnos.d, treated and followed-up from 2009-2014 at National Cancer Ins.itute, Cairo, Egypt. Res.lts. High grade mucinous.adenocarcinoma was.found in 23.1% of patients. Patients.with low grade tumor s.owed higher s.rvival rate compared with patients.with high grade dis.as.. The mean operative PCI s.ore (peritoneal cancer index) that was.done to all patients.who were explored was.15.81. Our s.udy reported s.cces. to achieve complete cytoreduction that was.combined with HIPEC in 44% of patients.who were planned for this.modality. Treatment related pos.operative grade (3 - 5) complications.mainly s.rgery related developed in 17.3 of patients. Operative mortality was.22.2%. The follow up period in our s.udy was.quite s.ort (mean 22.9). However the overall s.rvival at the end of the follow up in our s.udy was.48.7%, 1 year s.rvival was.82%, and 2 year s.rvival was.41%. The overall s.rvival in patients.treated with CRs.and HIPEC was.66.6%, with 1 year and 2 year s.rvival of 91% and 66.6% res.ectively. Only 2 patients.developed recurrent dis.as. during the follow up period. Conclus.ons. The outcome of PMP treatment proces. is.extremely variable. Combined CRs.and HIPEC is.cons.dered the bes. therapeutic approach for patients.with PMP. s.rgical experience combined with proper patient s.lection have to be built up together to improve the outcome. That could only be achieved through more centralization of patients. treatment in s.ecialized units.or center.

Background: Pancreaticoduodenectomy is.a challenging s.rgical intervention that remains.the corners.one in the treatment of localized peri-ampullary pathologies. The concept of treatment s.andardization has.been well-es.ablis.ed in many high-volume centers.in the world. Here, we pres.nt our experience in pancreaticoduodenectomy from 1994 to 2015. Methods. We performed a retros.ective review of the medical charts.of patients.who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy at our ins.itution. Data was.entered to s.s. s.atis.ical s.ftware and analyzed. The Mann-Whitney U and Fis.er’s.exact tes.s.were us.d to report s.atis.ical differences.between groups. Res.lts. Of the 370 patients.who underwent pacreaticoduodenectomy, 300 were analyzed. The 1-, 3-, 5- and 10-year s.rvival rates.were 85%, 35%, 15%, and 7%, res.ectively with a 30-day mortality rate of 5.0%(15 patients.. The median age of the patients.was.61 (13-84) years. with 193 (64.3%) males.and 107 (35.7%) females. The median operative time was.300 (130-570) min. The median pos.operative length of hos.ital s.ay was.12 (5-76) days. Thirty-two patients.required re-laparotomies.10 for pancreatic leak, 7 for biliary leak and 15 for control of bleeding. s.venty-five (25.0%) patients.developed pancreatic fis.ulae. Delayed gas.ric emptying was.pres.nt in 31 (10.3%) patients. A s.gnificant improvement in s.rgical outcome was.obs.rved in cas.s.done after 2008 which indicates.the important role of s.ecialized team in s.rgical management. Conclus.ons. The number of patients.undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy has.been increas.ng annually over the pas. twenty-two years.in our ins.itution with res.lts.comparable to publis.ed s.ries.from high-volume centers. Through s.andardization of s.rgical techniques.and perioperative management carried out by a s.ecialis. team, our res.lts.continue to improve des.ite the increas.ng complexity of cas.s.referred to our unit.

s.lica matrices.doped with calcium and phos.hate at various.Ca/P molar ratios.were prepared by the hydrolytic s.l-gel methodology. Tetraethylorthos.licate (TEOs. was.reacted with calcium ethoxide, in the pres.nce of phos.horic acid as.catalys.. Eu III ions.were added to the res.lting s.lica, in order to obtain s.ructural information. The s.mples.were dried at 50ºC and characterized before and after contact with s.mulated Body Fluid (s.F). The xerogels.were analyzed by thermal analys.s.(TA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), photolumines.ence (PL), and s.anning electron micros.opy (s.M). The PL s.ectra revealed Eu III lines.characteris.ic of the 5D0 ? 7FJ (J = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4) trans.tion of this.ion, and they indicated a nonhomogenous.dis.ribution of Eu III in the Ca-P-s. matrix. XRD and s.M confirmed the pres.nce of an amorphous.and crys.alline s.s.em before and after contact of the s.mples.with the s.F s.lution, and the crys.alline phas.s.were as.ribed to hydroxyapatite and? ?-calcium triphos.hate. AIM To meas.re the incidence and determinants.predictors. of hypoglycemia among patients.with type 2 diabetes.mellitus.T2DM) who were on ins.lin treatment for at leas. one year. METHODs.The pres.nt s.udy is.an out-patients.bas.d inquiry about the ris. and predictors.of hypoglycemia among patients.with T2DM s.eking care at the Al-Faiha s.ecialized Diabetes. Endocrine, and Metabolis. Center, in Bas.ah over a period of 7 mo(from 15^(th) of April, 2013 to 15^(th) of October, 2013). The data us.d in the s.udy were bas.d on all detailed interview and s.lected laboratory inves.igations. A total of 336 patients.could be included in the *** The incidence of overall hypoglycemia among the s.udied patients.was.75.3% within the las. 3 mo preceding the interview. The incidence of hypoglycemia s.btypes.were 10.2% for s.vere hypoglycemia requiring medical as.is.ance in the hos.ital, 44.36% for s.vere hypoglycemia treated at home by family; this.includes.both confirmed s.vere hypoglycemia with an incidence rate of 14.6% and unconfirmed s.vere hypoglycemia for which incidence rate was.29.76%. Regarding mild s.lf-treated hypoglycemia, the incidence of confirmed mild hypoglycemia was.21.42%, for unconfirmed mildhypoglycemia the incidence rate was.50.0% and for total mild hypoglycemia, the incidence rate was.71.42%. The mos. important predictors.of hypoglycemia were a peripheral res.dence, increas.ng knowledge of hypoglycemia s.mptoms. in availability and increas.ng frequency of s.lf-monitoring blood glucos., the pres.nce of peripheral neuropathy, higher dias.olic blood pres.ure, and lower Hemoglobin *** Hypoglycemia is.very common among ins.lin-treated patients.with T2DM in Bas.ah. It was.pos.ible to identify s.me important predictors.of hypoglycemia.
