Manifestations of COVID-19 infection in children with malignancy:A single-center experience in Jordan

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has been the cause of a global health crisis since the end of *** countries are following the guidelines and recommendations released by the World Health Organization to decrease the spread of the *** account for only 3%-5%of COVID-19 *** data are available regarding the clinical course,disease severity,and mode of treatment in children with malignancy and *** To evaluate the treatment plan and outcome of children with malignancy who contracted *** A retrospective study of the medical files of patients with malignancy who contracted COVID-19 between July 2020 and June 2021 was *** following data were reviewed for all patients:primary disease,laboratory data,admission ward,clinical status upon admission,disease course,treatment plan,and *** patients were those with malignancy who tested positive for COVID-19 by reverse transcription polymerase chain *** A total of 40 patients who had malignancy contracted COVID-19 from July 1,2020 to June 1,*** primary diseases were as follows:34 patients(85%)had hematological malignancies(30 had acute lymphoblastic leukemia,2 had acute myeloblastic leukemia,and 2 had Hodgkin lymphoma),whereas 6 patients(15%)had solid tumors(2 had neuroblastoma,2 had rhabdomyosarcoma,and 2 had central nervous system tumors).Twelve patients(30%)did not need hospitalization and underwent home isolation only,whereas twenty-eight patients(70%)required hospitalization(26 patients were admitted in the COVID-19 ward and 2 were admitted in the pediatric intensive care unit).CONCLUSION COVID-19 with malignancy in the pediatric age group has a benign course and does not increase the risk of having severe infection compared to other children.

The Middle East and North Africa(MENA)region has an active gaming community,with Arab gamers being reliant on games produced in Europe,America,and Japan due to the lack of significant game production companies in the MENA *** study explores the gamers’reactions to the localization process of two video games,namely PUBG and Free *** data collection purposes,a five-point Likert scale questionnaire that consisted of 18 items and six constructs,namely need for subtitled games,technical aspects,language issues,language preference,attitudes to game localization,and future actions and recommendations,was designed to elicit the reactions of 112 *** analyzing the responses,the findings showed that the better the technical aspects and language issues of the games’performance,the more positive participants’attitudes to game *** study recommends that further research could be conducted on the localization of video games with different themes into Arabic.

On the Derivation of Subject wh-Words and Theory of Cartography

In this article,we examine the syntactic derivation of subject wh-words in Jordanian ***,we provide empirical evidence that questions with a subject wh-word are syntactically derived by overt movement of the given subject wh-word to the left *** empirical evidence is based on the position of the subject wh-words to the left of the high IP adverbials,including epistemic adverbials and evidentials,as well as the position of the subject wh-words relative to topical ***,we examine the intriguing ban on the use of subject wh-words in VSO sentences although non-interrogative subjects are permitted to occur in such clauses,and other wh-words may appear in their thematic positions(given the appropriate context).We show that this ban results from the effects of a proposed economy-driven condition that disallows the use of an expletive(to fill Spec,TP)while the thematic subject is available(in Spec,vP).Additionally,we show that this ban results from the interactions of the effects of criterial freezing and the conditions that licence elements in the low IP area.

A Variationist Analysis of/ð/in Ammani Arabic

This study examines the realizations of variable/ð/sound in Ammani Arabic(AA)as well as the correlation between this variation and a number of sociolinguistic *** phonetic variants([ð],[d],[z]and[ðˤ]),four social factors(sex,age,region and educational attainment)and two linguistic factors(the position of the variant in the word and the syntactic category of the word)were *** achieve the objectives of the study,40 native speakers of AA were interviewed for approximately 30 min each.A multivariate analysis using GoldVarb X was carried out in order to discern the effects of the operationalized factors on the variant *** results confirmed that the social and linguistic factors condition the variant ***,the study examined the possible social meanings of variation in pronouncing the variable/ð/in AA adopting Silverstein’s(Lang Commun,23(3–4),193–229,https://***/10.1016/s0271-5309(03)00013-2,2003)concept of indexical *** sociolinguistic investigation of the variable/ð/in AA appears to suggest that it is an object of stylistic variation.

Optimized parallel architecture of evolutionary neural network for mass spectrometry data processing

Evolutionary neural network(ENN)shows high performance in function optimization and in finding approximately global optima from searching large and complex *** is one of the most efficient and adaptive optimization techniques used widely to provide candidate solutions that lead to the fitness of the *** has the extraordinary ability to search the global and learning the approximate optimal solution regardless of the gradient information of the error ***,ENN requires high computation and processing which requires parallel processing platforms such as field programmable gate arrays(FPGAs)and graphic processing units(GPUs)to achieve a good *** work involves different new implementations of ENN by exploring and adopting different techniques and opportunities for parallel *** versions of ENN algorithm have also been implemented and parallelized on FPGAs platform for low latency by exploiting the parallelism and pipelining *** data form mass spectrometry data(MSD)application was tested to examine and verify our *** is a very important and extensive computation application which needs to search and find the optimal features(peaks)in MSD in order to distinguish cancer patients from control *** algorithm is also implemented and parallelized on single core and GPU platforms for comparison *** computation time of our optimized algorithm on FPGA and GPU has been improved by a factor of 6.75 and 6,respectively.

Experimental investigation on freeze-thaw durability of polymer concrete

Assessing the durability of concrete is of prime importance to provide an adequate service life and reduce the repairing cost of ***-thaw is one such test that indicates the ability of concrete to last a long time without a significant loss in its *** this study,the freeze-thaw resistance of polymer concrete containing different polymer contents was explored and compared to various conventional cement ***’fresh and hardened properties were assessed for their workability,air content,and compressive *** mass loss,length change,dynamic modulus of elasticity,and residual compressive strength were determined for all types of concretes subjected to freeze-thaw cycles according to ASTM C666-procedure *** showed that polymer concrete(PC)specimens prepared with higher dosages of polymer contents possessed better freeze-thaw durability compared to other *** high durability performance of PCs is mainly due to their impermeable microstructures,absence of water in their structure,and the high bond strength between aggregates and a polymer *** is also indicated that the performance of high-strength concrete containing air-entraining admixture is comparable with PC having optimum polymer content in terms of residual compressive strength,dynamic modulus of elasticity,mass loss,and length change.

L^p Estimates of Rough Maximal Functions Along Surfaces with Applications

Abstract In this paper, we study the Lp mapping properties of certain class of maximal oscillatory singular integral operators. We prove a general theorem for a class of maximal functions along surfaces. As a consequence of such theorem, we establish the Lp boundedness of various maximal oscillatory singular integrals provided that their kernels belong to the natural space L log L（Sn-1）. Moreover, we highlight some additional results concerning operators with kernels in certain block spaces. The results in this paper substantially improve previously known results.

Previous studies have confirmed that heat shock protein 90 overexpression can lead to dopami- nergic neuronal death. This study was designed to further investigate what effects are produced by heat shock protein 90 after endurance exercise training. Immunohistochemistry results showed that exercise training significantly inhibited heat shock protein 90 overexpression in the soleus and gastrocnemius in Parkinson＇s disease rats, which is a potential therapeutic target for ameliorating skeletal muscle abnormalities in Parkinso^s disease.

A genetic algorithm based lookup table approach for optimal stepping sequence of open-loop stepper motor systems

Stepper motor driven systems are widely used in industrial applications. They are mainly used for their low cost open-loop high performance. However, as dynamic systems need to be increasingly faster and their motion more precise, it is important to have an open-loop system which is accurate and reliable. In this paper, we present a novel technique in which a genetic algorithm （GA） based lookup table approach is used to find the optimal stepping sequence of an open-loop stepper motor system. The optimal sequence objective is to minimize residual vibration and to accurately follow trajectory. A genetic algorithm is used to find the best stepping sequence which minimizes the error and improves the system performance. Numerical simulation has showed the effectiveness of our approach to improve the system performance for both position and velocity. The optimized system reduced the residual vibration and was able to follow the trajectory with minimal error.
