Evaluating for unrecognized deficits in perimetry associated with functional upper eyelid malposition

objective:To investigate whether functional upper eyelid malposition is associated with unrecognized deficits in automated perimetry among glaucoma patients by examining patients undergoing eyelid surgery who had not been identified as requiring eyelid taping during glaucoma field ***:In this retrospective pre-post study,an automated database search followed by manual chart review was used to identify eligible patients from January 2012 to March *** patients had reliable visual field testing within two years before and after functional upper blepharoplasty or ptosis repair and no comorbid ocular *** part of routine practice,glaucoma visual field technicians taped patients with pupil-obstructing eyelid malposition;taped examinations were excluded from *** and demographic characteristics,mean deviation,and pattern standard deviation were evaluated within a two year period before and after eyelid ***:The final analysis included 60 eyes of 38 *** in visual field parameters after eyelid surgery did not reach statistical significance in crude or adjusted *** patients with ptosis,the margin reflex distance-1 was not associated with change in mean deviation after surgery(Pearson R2=0.0061;P=0.700).Five of 17 eyes excluded from analysis due to unreliable pre-operative visual fields demonstrated substantial improvement after ***:Functional upper eyelid malposition does not appear to cause spurious visual field abnormalities among glaucoma patients with reliable visual fields who were determined not to require eyelid taping at the time of their visual *** visual fields could be a sign of eyelid interference in this population.

Mycotoxins are the most frequently occurring natural contaminant in food and *** occurrence in crops and animal feed represents an enormous challenge,particularly for livestock farmers in terms of increased production costs,reduced animal performance and *** study investigates the scale of emerging mycotoxins contamination of crops and animal feeds globally,and evaluates their impacts on the health and performance of livestock,especially when they co-occur alongside regulated *** mycotoxins including nivalenol,enniatins,beauvericin,diacetoxyscirpenol,fusaric acid,patulin,moniliformin and sterigmatocystin were found to be the most prevalent contaminants of cereals and other feed commodities *** pooled mean levels for beauvericin,nivalenol,enniatins,moniliformin,sterigmatocystin,diacetoxyscirpenol,fusaric acid,and patulin were 386,421,7,854,204,136,126,370 and 138 mg/kg,*** terms of toxicity,co-occurrence of emerging mycotoxins with each other and also with regulated mycotoxins profoundly impacts livestock performance,even at low ***,there is a need for cumulative risk assessments to evaluate the health risks associated with simultaneous exposure to emerging and regulated mycotoxins and also to develop effective mitigation strategies.

The studypresents theHalfMax InsertionHeuristic (HMIH) as a novel approach to solving theTravelling SalesmanProblem (TSP). The goal is to outperform existing techniques such as the Farthest Insertion Heuristic (FIH) andNearest Neighbour Heuristic (NNH). The paper discusses the limitations of current construction tour heuristics,focusing particularly on the significant margin of error in FIH. It then proposes HMIH as an alternative thatminimizes the increase in tour distance and includes more nodes. HMIH improves tour quality by starting withan initial tour consisting of a ‘minimum’ polygon and iteratively adding nodes using our novel Half Max *** paper thoroughly examines and compares HMIH with FIH and NNH via rigorous testing on standard TSPbenchmarks. The results indicate that HMIH consistently delivers superior performance, particularly with respectto tour cost and computational efficiency. HMIH’s tours were sometimes 16% shorter than those generated by FIHand NNH, showcasing its potential and value as a novel benchmark for TSP solutions. The study used statisticalmethods, including Friedman’s Non-parametric Test, to validate the performance of HMIH over FIH and *** guarantees that the identified advantages are statistically significant and consistent in various situations. Thiscomprehensive analysis emphasizes the reliability and efficiency of the heuristic, making a compelling case for itsuse in solving TSP issues. The research shows that, in general, HMIH fared better than FIH in all cases studied,except for a few instances (pr439, eil51, and eil101) where FIH either performed equally or slightly better thanHMIH. HMIH’s efficiency is shown by its improvements in error percentage (δ) and goodness values (g) comparedto FIH and NNH. In the att48 instance, HMIH had an error rate of 6.3%, whereas FIH had 14.6% and NNH had20.9%, indicating that HMIH was closer to the optimal solution. Multi-Model Approach for Assessing the Influence of Calibration Criteria on the Water Balance in ouémé Basin

Hydrological models are very useful tools for evaluating water resources, and the hydroclimatic hazards associated with the water cycle. However, their calibration and validation require the use of performance criteria which choice is not straightforward. This paper aims to evaluate the influence of the performance criteria on water balance components and water extremes using two global rainfall-runoff models (HBV and GR4J) over the ouémé watershed at the Bonou and Savè outlets. Three (3) Efficacy criteria (Nash, coefficient of determination, and KGE) were considered for calibration and validation. The results show that the Nash criterion provides a good assessment of the simulation of the different parts of the hydrograph. KGE is better for simulating peak flows and water balance elements than other efficiency criteria. This study could serve as a basis for the choice of performance criteria in hydrological modelling.

Synthesis of zinc-carboxylate metal-organic frameworks for the removal of emerging drug contaminant(amodiaquine)from aqueous solution

We herein report the removal of amodiaquine, an emerging drug contaminant from aqueous solution using [Zn2（fum）2（bpy）] and [Zn4 o（bdc）3]（fum = fumaric acid; bpy =4,4-bipyridine; bdc = benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate） metal–organic frameworks（MoFs） as adsorbents. The adsorbents were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared（FT-IR） spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction（PXRD）. Adsorption process for both adsorbents were found to follow the pseudo-first-order kinetics, and the adsorption equilibrium data fitted best into the Freundlich isotherm with the R2 values of 0.973 and0.993 obtained for [Zn2（fum）2（bpy）] and [Zn4 o（bdc）3] respectively. The maximum adsorption capacities foramodiaquine in this study were found to be 0.478 and 47.62 mg/g on the[Zn2（fum）2（bpy）] and [Zn4 o（bdc）3] MoFs respectively, and were obtained at p H of 4.3 for both adsorbents. FT-IR spectroscopy analysis of the MoFs after the adsorption process showed the presence of the drug. The results of the study showed that the prepared MoFs could be used for the removal of amodiaquine from wastewater.

Background and aims:The aim of this study was to review the literature and perform a meta-analysis to clarify the association between intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy and risks of long-term maternal hepatobiliary disease as well as adverse fetal outcomes including preterm birth,meconium-stained amniotic fluid,and ***:This systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines.A comprehensive literature search was performed using Cochrane,Embase,and PubMed databases to identify observational or cohort studies comparing pregnant women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy(ICP)to pregnant women without *** from the included studies were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.4.1 ***:The meta-analysis showed a significant association between ICP and the risk of hepatobiliary diseases(pooled risk ratio[RR]:2.81,95%confidence interval[CI]:2.66–2.97,pociation between ICP and risk of HC(pooled RR:4.02,95%CI:3.12–5.19,ponium-stained amniotic fluid(MSAF):ICP was significantly associated with an increased risk of MSAF(pooled RR:1.91,95%CI:1.65–2.21,ponstrated a significant association between ICP and preterm birth(pooled RR:2.11,95%CI:2.01–2.21,ponclusion:ICP demonstrated statistically significant associations with increased risks of hepatobiliary disease,HC,MSAF,and preterm birth.

Anti-inflammatory activity of the essential oils of Cymbopogon validus(Stapf) Stapf ex Burtt Davy from Eastern Cape, South Africa

objective: To evaluate the essential oil composition and the anti-inflammatory activity of Cymbopogon validus(C. validus) leaves and flowers. Methods: A total of 300 g of fresh or dry(leaves and flowers) of C. validus were cut into small pieces and subjected to hydro-distillation method for approximately 5 h using the Clevenger apparatus. The extracted essential oils were then used for testing the anti-inflammatory activity. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated by using egg-albumin induced paw edema. Results: The extracted oils had the following yields 2.2% for fresh leaves, 2.0% for dry leaves and 2.4% v/w for dry flowers. GCMS results revealed that the oils contained artemisia ketone(37.5%), linalool(3.2%-29.6%), northujane(4.4%-16.8%), verbenone(13.5%), naphthalene(1.7%-9.6%), δ-cadinene(0.5%-8.1%), hedycaryol(5.4%-7.6%) and α-eudesmol(6.5%-6.7%) as the major constituents. C. validus essential oils showed significant(Pory effects from the first 30 min after albumin injection compared to aspirin which had a later onset of effect. Conclusions: The findings of this study show that the essential oil extracted from C. validus fresh or dry leaves and flowers have anti-inflammatory properties; that might be associated with the major components and the minor components found in the essential oils.

The applications of information technology (IT) tools and techniqueshave, over the years, simplified complex problem solving procedures. But thepower of automation is inhibited by the technicality in manning advanced equipment. To this end, tools deliberately combating this inhibition and advancing technological growth are the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). UAVs are rapidlytaking over major industries such as logistics, security, and *** others, this is a very efficient way of carrying out missions unconventional to humans. An application area of this technology is the local film industrywhich is not producing quality movies primarily due to the lack of technicalknow-how in utilizing these systems. This study therefore aim to devise an autonomous object tracking UAV system that would eliminate the complex procedureinvolved in stabilizing an aerial camera (aerial bot) midair and promote the creation of quality aerial video shooting. The study adopted Unified Modeling Language (UML) tools in modeling the system’s functionality. The traditionalServer-Client model architecture was adopted. The openCV library employedproved highly efficient in aiding the tracking procedure. The system provided ausable web controller which provides easy interaction between the pilot and thedrone. Conclusively, investments in UAVs would enhance creation of quality graphic contents.
