A nearest-neighbor-based detector against load redistribution attacks is presented.The detector is designed to scale from small-scale to very large-scale systems while guaranteeing consistent detection performance.Extensive testing is performed on a realistic large-scale system to evaluate the perfor-mance of the proposed detector against a wide range of attacks,from simple random noise attacks to sophisticated load redistribution attacks.The detection capability is analyzed against different attack parameters to evaluate its sensitivity.A statistical test that leverages the proposed detector is introduced to identify which loads are likely to have been maliciously modified,thus,localizing the attack subgraph.This test is based on ascribing to each load a risk measure(probability of being attacked)and then computing the best posterior likelihood that minimizes log-loss.

We live in an era of rapid urbanization as many cities are experiencing an unprecedented rate of population growth and congestion.Public transport is playing an increasingly important role in urban mobility with a need to move people and goods efficiently around the city.With such pressures on existing public transportation systems,this paper investigates the opportunities to use social media to more effectively engage with citizens and customers using such services.This research forms a case study of the use of passively collected forms of big data in cities-focusing on Sydney,Australia.Firstly,it examines social media data(Tweets)related to public transport performance.Secondly,it joins this to longitudinal big data-delay information continuously broadcast by the network over a year,thus forming hundreds of millions of data artifacts.Topics,tones,and sentiment are modeled using machine learning and Natural Language Processing(NLP)techniques.These resulting data,and models,are compared to opinions derived from a citizen survey among users.The validity of such data and models versus the intentions of users,in the context of systems that monitor and improve transport performance,are discussed.As such,key recommendations for developing Smart Cities were formed in an applied research context based on these data and techniques.

In sexual reproduction different types of symbiotic relationships between insects and microbes have become established. For example, some bacteria have evolved almost exclusive vertical transmission and even define the compatibility of insect mating partners. Many strictly sexually transmitted diseases have also been described in insects. Apart from such rather specific relationships the role of opportunistic infections in the reproductive process has been widely neglected. Opportunistic microbes transmitted passively during mating might impose an energetic cost, as the immune system will need to be alert and will use resources to fight potential intruders. Through mating wounds and contaminated reproductive organs opportunistic microbes might be transferred to mating partners and even enter the body cavity. Females as the ＂receiving＂ sex are particularly likely to have evolved adaptations to avoid or reduce opportunistic infections. Males of several species show highly complex seminal fluids, which as well as containing components that influence a males＇ fertilization success, also possess antimicrobial substances. The role of antimicrobials in the reproductive process is not well understood. Some evidence hints at the protection of sperm against microbes, indicating a role for natural selection in shaping the evolution of reproductive traits. By highlighting the potential importance of microbes in sexual selection and their role in reproduction in general I will make a case for studies in sexual selection, especially the ones investigating postcopulatory processes, that should incorporate environmental, as well as genotypic variation, in reproductive traits.

The development of a cost-competitive bioprocess requires that the cell factory converts the feedstock into the product of interest at high rates and yields.However,microbial cell factories are exposed to a variety of different stresses during the fermentation process.These stresses can be derived from feedstocks,metabolism,or industrial production processes,limiting production capacity and diminishing competitiveness.Improving stress tolerance and robustness allows for more efficient production and ultimately makes a process more economically viable.This review summarises general trends and updates the most recent developments in technologies to improve the stress tolerance of microorganisms.We first look at evolutionary,systems biology and computational methods as examples of non-rational approaches.Then we review the(semi-)rational approaches of membrane and tran-scription factor engineering for improving tolerance phenotypes.We further discuss challenges and perspectives associated with these different approaches.

The analysis centers of the Multi-GNSS Pilot Project of the International GNSS Service provide orbit and clock products for the global navigation satellite systems(GNSSs)Global Positioning System(GPS),GLONASS,Galileo,and BeiDou,as well as for the Japanese regional Quasi-Zenith Satellite System(QZSS).Due to improved solar radiation pressure modeling and other more sophisticated models,the consistency of these products has improved in recent years.The current orbit consistency between different analysis centers is on the level of a few centimeters for GPS,around one decimeter for GLONASS and Galileo,a few decimeters for BeiDou-2,and several decimeters for QZSS.The clock consistency is about 2 cm for GPS,5 cm for GLONASS and Galileo,and 10 cm for BeiDou-2.In terms of carrier phase modeling error for precise point positioning,the various products exhibit consistencies of 2–3 cm for GPS,6–14 cm for GLONASS,3–10 cm for Galileo,and 10–17 cm for BeiDou-2.

Background The problem of visualizing a hierarchical dataset is an important and useful technique in many real-life situations.Folder systems,stock markets,and other hierarchical-related datasets can use this tech-nique to better understand the structure and dynamic variation of the dataset.Traditional space-filling(square)-based methods have the advantages of compact space usage and node size as opposed to diagram-based methods.Space-filling-based methods have two main research directions:static and dynamic performance.Methods This study presented a treemapping method based on balanced partitioning that enables excellent aspect ratios in one variant,good temporal coherence for dynamic data in another,and in the third,a satisfactory compromise between these two aspects.To layout a treemap,all the children of a node were divided into two groups,which were then further divided until groups of single elements were reached.After this,these groups were combined to form a rectangle representing the parent node.This process was performed for each layer of the hierarchical dataset.For the first variant from the partitioning,the child elements were sorted and two groups,sized as equally as possible,were built from both big and small elements(size-balanced partition).This achieved satisfactory aspect ratios for the rec-tangles but less so temporal coherence(dynamic).For the second variant,the sequence of children was taken and from this,groups,sized as equally as possible,were created without the need for sorting(sequence-based,good compromise between aspect ratio and temporal coherency).For the third variant,the children were split into two groups of equal cardinalities,regardless of their size(number-balanced,worse aspect ratios but good temporal coherence).Results This study evaluated the aspect ratios and dynamic stability of the employed methods and proposed a new metric that measures the visual difference between rectangles during their movement to represent temporally changing inputs.Conclusion This study demonstrat
