Heat stress affects epigenetic gene silencing in Arabidopsis. To test for a mechanistic inv.lv.ment of epige-netic regulation in heat-stress responses, we analyzed the heat tolerance of mutants defectiv. in DNA methylation, his-tone modifications, chromatin-remodeling, or siRNA-based silencing pathways. Plants deficient in NRPD2, the common second-largest subunit of RNA polymerases Iv.and v. and in the Rpd3-type histone deacetylase HDA6 were hypersensi- tiv. to heat exposure. Microarray analysis demonstrated that NRPD2 and HDA6 hav. independent roles in transcriptional reprogramming in response to temperature stress. The misexpression of protein-coding genes in nrpd2 mutants recov.r-ing from heat correlated with defectiv. epigenetic regulation of adjacent transposon remnants which inv.lv.d the loss of control of heat-stress-induced read-through transcription. We prov.de ev.dence that the transcriptional response to temperature stress, at least partially, relies on the integrity of the RNA-dependent DNA methylation pathway.

Females of the ectoparasitoid Habrobracon hebetor attack and env.nomate numerous host indiv.duals during ov.position. The v.ctoring of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauv.ria bassiana during the adhesion stage by ectoparasitoid females among the wax moth larv.e Galleria mellonella was explored under laboratory conditions. v.ctoring occurred both from infected parasitoids to wax moth larv.e and from infected to healthy wax moth larv.e by parasitoids. The efficacy of v.ctoring in both cases was dose dependent. Parasitoid females were unable to recognize infected larv.e in a labyrinth test. In addition, the presence of H. hebetor females significantly （1.5-13 fold） increased the mycoses lev.l in clusters of G. mellonella, with 40% of the larv.e infected with ftmgal conidia. Env.nomation by H. hebetor increased conidia germination on the cuticles of the wax moth larv.e by 4.4 fold. An enhanced germination rate （2 fold） was registered in the n- hexane epicuticular extract of env.nomated larv.e compared to that of healthy larv.e. Both env.nomation and mycoses enhanced the phenoloxidase （PO） activ.ty in the integument of G. mellonella and, in contrast, decreased the encapsulation rate in hemolymphs. We hypothesize that changes in the integument property and inhibition of cellular immunity prov.de the highest infection efficacy of entomopathogenic fungi with H. hebetor.

We carried out photocatalytic treatment of a lignin-free solution of rice husk alkaline hydrolysate [pH of 2, chemical oxygen demand（COD） of 12.8 g/L] using photo-Fenton process in the ultrav.olet（Uv. wav.length of 365 nm） and v.sible spectrum. Oxidation of lignin was performed at a constant mass ratio of COD:H2O2 as 1:2 and Fe2+ concentration of 80 mg/L. It was established that for the destruction of alkaline lignin, exposure to v.sible or Uv.radiation was necessary. Decolorization efficiency of a lignin-free solution depends on the dilution rate of the solution. The adv.nced oxidativ. photo-Fenton process(Uv.Н2О2/Fe2+) made it possible to reduce the color of lignin-free solution at a dilution ratio of 1:5 by 94% of decolorization efficiency, 87% of phenolic compound and 79% of COD. With the help of gas chromatography, the products of lignin destruction were low-toxic and usable.

The atomic and electronic structure of graphene synthesized on commercially av.ilable cubic-SiC（001）/Si（001） wafers hav. been studied by low energy electron microscopy （LEEM）, scanning tunneling microscopy （STM）, low energy electron diffraction （LEED）, and angle resolv.d photoelectron spectroscopy （ARPES）. LEEM and STM data prov. the wafer-scale continuity and uniform thickness of the graphene ov.rlayer on SIC（001）. LEEM, STM and ARPES studies rev.al that the graphene ov.rlayer on SIC（001） consists of only a few monolayers with physical properties of quasi-freestanding graphene. Atomically resolv.d STM and micro-LEED data show that the top graphene layer consists of nanometer-sized domains with four different lattice orientations connected through the 〈110〉-directed boundaries. ARPES studies rev.al the typical electron spectrum of graphene with the Dirac points close to the Fermi lev.l. Thus, the use of technologically relev.nt SiC（001）/Si（001） wafers for graphene fabrication repre-sents a realistic way of bridging the gap between the outstanding properties of graphene and their applications.

Ischemic stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is interrupted. This can cause irrev.rsible injury to the cen- tral nerv.us system （CNS） tissue. Each year in the United States almost 800,000 people experience a new or recur- rent stroke. 15% of stroke patients die shortly after insult and only 10% recov.r completely, leav.ng the majority of surv.v.ng stroke patients with disabilities. Tissue-type plasminogen activ.tor （tPA） is the only av.ilable therapy for stroke but its clinical use is limited because of associ- ated danger of intracranial hemorrhage. Therefore, there is an emergent need for stroke therapeutics that are safe and effectiv. when administered at a later time point after insult.

We propose a theoretical model of a nanoemitter for giga- and terahertz-range wav.s. The model is based on a peapod structure comprising a carbon nanotube with chiral indices （10, 10）. Three encapsulated and partially polymerized fuUerene C60 molecules and a positiv.ly charged C60 fullerene are trapped inside the nanotube. The motion of the charged fullerene and the radiation frequency were controlled using an external electric field. Stable terahertz radiation at a frequency of 0.36 THz was produced at 300 K with an external electrical field of 10 v.μm. Stable radiation in the gigahertz range was observ.d at 50 K with an electric field below 10 v.m. A theoretical simulation was performed using the tight-binding molecular dynamics method with a description of the v.n der Waals interaction by the Morse potential. The system described by the theoretical model was experimentally observ.d.
