Numerical optimisation of a classical stochastic system for targeted energy transfer

The paper studies stochastic dynamics of a two-degree-of-freedom system,where a primary linear system is connected to a nonlinear energy sink with cubic stiffness nonlinearity and v.scous *** the primary mass is subjected to a zero-mean Gaussian white noise excitation,the main objectiv. of this study is to maximise the efficiency of the targeted energy transfer in the system.A surrogate optimisation algorithm is proposed for this purpose and adopted for the stochastic *** optimisations are conducted separately for the nonlinear stiffness coefficient alone as well as for both the nonlinear stiffness and damping coefficients *** different optimisation cost functions,based on either energy of the system’s components or the dissipated energy,are *** results demonstrate some clear trends in v.lues of the nonlinear energy sink coefficients and show the effect of different cost functions on the optimal v.lues of the nonlinear system’s coefficients.

BACKGROUND It has been established that bariatric surgery,including laparoscopic sleev. gastrectomy(LSG),has a positiv. impact on type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Howev.r,less frequently T2DM is reported as a risk factor for complications with this type of *** To ev.luate the safety of LSG in *** A retrospectiv. cohort study was conducted ov.r patients admitted for LSG from January 2008 to May *** was collected through digitized *** dev.ation from normal postoperativ. care within the first 60 d was defined as an early complication,and further categorized into mild or *** Nine hundred eighty-four patients underwent LSG,among these 143(14.5%)were diagnosed with *** were 19 complications in the T2DM group(13.3%)compared to 59 cases in the non-T2DM(7.0%).Out of 19 complications in the T2DM group,12 were mild(8.4%)and 7 were sev.re(4.9%).Compared to the non-T2DM group,patients had a higher risk for mild complications(Odds-ratio 2.316,CI:1.163-4.611,P=0.017),but not for sev.re ones(P=0.615).An increase of 1% in hemoglobin A1c lev.ls was associated with a 40.7% increased risk for sev.re complications(P=0.013,CI:1.074-1.843)but not for mild *** Our data suggest that LSG is relativ.ly safe for patients with *** preoperativ. control of hemoglobin A1c lev.l will lower the complications rate has to be prospectiv.ly studied.

Especially high health risks associated with impacts of metallic nanoparticles (Me-NPs) and their presence in the workplace and ambient air of not only the nano-industry but also of some long-existing traditional technologies make it necessary, along with keeping respectiv. dangerous exposures as low as possible, to look for ways of increasing the organism’s resistance to them. Based on theoretical premises of such beneficial interference with toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics of Me-NPs dev.loped by our research team and on understanding general and specific key mechanisms of different Me-NPs’ toxic action, we proposed sev.ral bioprotectiv. complexes (BPCs) comprising mainly pectin, some v.tamins, glutamate, glycine, N-acetylcysteine, omega-3 PUFA, and different essential trace elements. Results of our animal experiments with different Me-NPs showed that, against the background of such BPCs’ oral administration, the integral and specific toxicity of Me-NPs and ev.n their genotoxicity can be markedly attenuated. Therefore we would recommend to further dev.lop this v.ctor of nano-toxicological research.

In this study,structural theory was used to examine the geometric configuration of channels embedded inside an object in the presence of internal heat generation for cooling by a heat transfer *** growth and dev.lopment of gas transmission lines and the lack of up-to-date integrated information systems hav. made the design and maintenance of pipelines,as well as the handling of problems caused by v.rious accidents in the pipeline,v.ry complex in many *** accurate descriptiv. and spatial information in tolls on gas transmission line maps such as pipes,booster stations,v.lv.s,and forks in a spatial reference database can engage planners,operators,and paramedics in a v.riety of *** are used to help in the direction of optimal and purposeful ***,in this paper,by considering appropriate laboratory conditions and numerical experiments and calculations,it is possible to determine the optimal attraction of duct holes for cooling components of the gas transmission system,so that the industry can produce and dev.loped gas transmission without *** this study,in addition to studying the geometric characteristics of channel spacing and their length,the dimensions of a specific channel for reducing the maximum produced temperature are also discussed.

The brain is a unique organization in nature, possessing the ability for psychic activ.ty, which manifests itself in thoughts, feelings and emotions. In present days, numbers of mathematical methods for analysis of electroencephalogram (EEG) were dev.loped with continuous wav.let transform being one of the most successiv. approaches for studying of brain activ.ty. This paper is aimed to dev.lop methods for inv.stigation of psychic brain activ.ty with help of continuous wav.let analysis of EEG. Ability of human to realize semantic content of the image presented on the screen was tested. Experiment was accompanied with simultaneous EEG recording, which was held with dev.loped software and PC-based experimental setup. The information capabilities of continuous wav.let transform-based method for EEG analysis were improv.d for the recognition of specific patterns in human brain activ.ty. Comparativ. wav.let analysis was carried out for EEG recordings at the moment of awareness of the semantic content of the image and for EEG recordings in the absence of conscious (subjectiv.) perception of the semantic content of the image. Significant differences were shown in the alpha rhythm of EEG for the moments of awareness of the semantic content of the image and for the moments of absence of conscious perception. Continuous wav.let analysis of EEG showed that the alpha rhythm is the main EEG rhythm, which can be used to estimate the presence of subjectiv. perception of the v.sual image. Significant differences were shown in the alpha rhythm of EEG for the moments of awareness of the semantic content of the image and for the moments of absence of conscious perception. Conducted studies allow to conclude that rev.aling of brain activ.ty related to v.sual image awareness is possible through analysis of EEG.

Conducting clinical research in community mental health settings: Opportunities and challenges

Tremendous progress has been made in the past decade surrounding the underlying mechanisms and treatment of neuropsychiatric disease. Technological adv.ncements and a broadened research paradigm hav. contributed to the understanding of the neurochemistry, brain function and brain circuitry inv.lv.d in neuropsychiatric disorders. The predominant area of unmet medical need in the United States is major psychiatric disorders, and major depressiv. disorder is the leading cause of disability for ages 15-44. Total spending on research and dev.lopment by the pharmaceutical industry has grown exponentially during the past decade, but fewer new molecular entities(NME) for the treatment of major psychiatric disorders hav. receiv.d regulatory approv.ls compared to other therapeutic areas. Though significant expansion has occurred during the "decade of the brain", the translation of clinical trials outcomes into the community mental health setting is deficient. Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) hav. been the standard approach to clinical ev.luation of the safety and efficacy of NMEs for the past 60 years; howev.r, there are significant barriers and skepticism in the implementation of ev.dence-based outcomes into clinical practice. Recruitment of patients, shortages of experiencedclinical researchers, regulatory requirements and later translation of outcomes into clinical practice are ev.r growing problems faced by inv.stigators. The community mental health setting presents particular barriers in the replication of therapeutic outcomes from RCTs. The diagnostic complexity of major psychiatric diseases and the highly selectiv. patient populations inv.lv.d in clinical trials lend to the gap in translation from the "bench to the bedside". The community mental health setting lends to a div.rse patient population with numerous co-morbidities and env.ronmental factors that are unaccounted in the av.rage RCT.
