Objective:To understand the protective effects of Ganoderma terpenoid extract(GTE)against Plasmodium berghei-malarial infection in mice,the present study was carried out to evaluate the effects of GTE in combination with chloroquine disulphate(CQ)on erythrocyte-selected inflammatory markers and antioxidant defense status in ***-infected ***:***-infected mice were divided into six groups:infected control(IC)group,administered 1 mL Tween 20;GTE100 and GTE250 groups,administered 100 and 250 mg/kg GTE,respectively;GT100+CQ and GT250+CQ groups,co-administered 100 and 250 mg/kg GTE plus 30 mg/kg CQ,respectively;and CQ group,administered 30 mg/kg CQ.A separate group of non-infected mice were given 1 m L Tween 20,and served as a normal control group(NC).Extract and drug were dissolved in Tween20 and administered orally once daily for 12 consecutive *** the end of the treatment period,mice were anesthetized with chloroform and sacrificed by cervical *** was prepared from blood obtained from each *** evaluated at the end of the treatment period include parasitemia,red blood cell count,hematocrit,malondialdehyde(mDA),glutathione(GSH),catalase(CAT),glutathione peroxidase(GPx),superoxide dismutase(SOD),tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a),and interleukin-10(IL-10).Results:Infected mice treated with a combination of GTE and CQ(GT100+CQ and GT250+CQ groups)showed significantly reduced parasitemia levels(Pmpared to those administered GTE alone as well as *** improvement in body weight(Pmice treated with a combination of GTE and CQ(GT100+CQ and GT250+CQ groups),compared to mice receiving GTE alone(GTE100 and GTE250 groups).Plasma mDA and TNF-a concentrations were significantly lowered,and IL-10 concentration was significantly increased in GT100+CQ and GT250+CQ groups,relative to the IC group(P<0.05).GSH concentration and SOD,CAT and GPx activities were significantly higher in GT100+

Influence of Desiccation Time on Survival and Regeneration of Embryonic Axes of Groundnut (<i>Arachis hypogaea</i>L.) Immersed in Liquid Nitrogen

Cryopreservation, the storage of biological materials in liquid nitrogen (LN), is a useful method for long term conservation of plant germplasm. This study was carried out with the objective of establishing an efficient desiccation technique for successful cryopreservation and recovery of embryonic axes of groundnut. Embryonic axes of four groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) genotypes were evaluated. The excised embryonic axes were dehydrated by air current of a laminar air flow cabinet for different duration (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 hrs) before being plunged in LN (-196℃) and held for 1 hr. Samples were thawed in water bath at 40℃?for 2 min, thereafter cultured on mS medium supplemented with 15 mg/L BAP for recovery. Highest survival (96.67%-100%) and shoot formation (91.67%-96.67%) were obtained at an average moisture content of 17% after 4-5 hr desiccation. Among the genotypes evaluated, Samnut 22 and Samnut 23 recorded the highest survival and shoot formation. This technique therefore appears promising for cryopreservation of groundnut germplasm.

The main sources of blast in pipes are the accumulation of explosive gas in pipes during two phase flow（liquid and gas） especially in bends,leakage from reciprocating compressor catching fire and exploding,war,terrorists,*** specific energy of combustion of a hydrocarbon fuel is very high but widely different effects are possible according to the condition of *** this case,blast as it is,could be thought of as an artificial *** Unified Facilities Criteria（2008）,ground movement parameters in different ground media for different explosives were *** agreement with the value recorded in San Fernando earthquake of 1971,the most commonly used seismic velocity for soils was applied in different directions in different soil medium which is used to study the response of different pipes buried at different *** constituent of blast;ground media,intervening medium,blast wave parameters and two different pipes were modeled and analyzed using finite element numerical code,***,pressure,stress,strain,etc at the crown,invert and spring-line of the pipes were *** this study,one hundred and fifty（150） different models were *** was observed that the period of blast played a significant role in the extent of buried pipe damage caused by underground *** addition,for a blast in a trench located at a distance from the buried pipeline,depth of burial play a significant role in the extent of buried pipeline damage caused by *** the short duration of the blast and given the same magnitude,it was observed that the extent of buried pipe damage due to blast is high compared to that caused by ***,possible precautionary measure and probable depth of burial of pipes were *** this innovation,agricultural waste and groundwater contamination that may result from burst pipes,most especially in the area of irrigation and drainage,would be greatly reduced.

Early Clinical and Functional Outcome of Primary Total Knee Replacement with Posterior Cruciate Substituting Prosthesis for Primary Knee Osteoarthritis Using 2011 Knee Society Score

Background: Primary knee Osteoarthritis (OA) is the commonest articular disease in middle age and elderly people. Primary total knee replacement (TKR) is a known world-wide standard and definitive treatment of primary knee OA following failed adequate non-operative management. It is of clinical importance to assess the clinical and functional outcome of TKR to prognosticate the severity of primary knee OA. The new (2011) knee society scoring system (nKSS) is both surgeons and patients’ assessment tool for the treatment outcome of TKR. Study Design: Prospective interventional analytical study. Aim and Objective: The aim of the study was to determine early clinical and functional outcome of primary total knee replacement in patients with primary knee osteoarthritis using nKSS. The objectives were: 1) To determine the pre-operative nKSS and post operative nKSS;2) To determine relationships between pre-operative nKSS and post operative nKSS at 6 weeks, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months;3) To determine the complication rates in patients undergoing primary TKR in the study centre. methods: A prospective interventional study of 59 patients aged 51 to 70 years who had 67 Total Knee Replacements (TKRs) participated in the study between November 2015 to June 2018 at National Orthopaedics Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria. Patients’ sociodemographic data, pre-operative and post-operative nKSS system were recorded at 6 weeks, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months during follow up. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Results: There were 41 females and 18 males (m:F = 1:2.3). There were total of 67 TKRs with 31 right TKRs, 20 left TKRs and 8 staged bilateral TKRs. The participants’ age ranged from 51 to 70 years with the mean age of 59.5 (±8.5) years. Four patients did not complete the study due to various reasons. The remaining 55 participants completed the study period with progressive improvement of their post-operative nKSS at 6 weeks, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months post-operativel

Objective:To investigate the effect of leaf aqueous extract from Gongronema latifolium(***)on CCl_(4)induced-oxidative stress in Wistar *** effect was assessed by measuring liver marker enzymes activity,analyzing the antioxidant parameters,lipid profile estimation and lipid peroxidation by-product following CCl_(4)induced-oxidative ***:milled *** leaves were subjected to aqueous extraction and the filtrate was evaporated between 40-60°C under reduced pressure and a calculated volume of the leaf extract was administered at a dose of 500 mg/kg body ***-five rats were grouped into seven groups of 5 animals each namely;control and experimental *** experimental groups were treated with 2.0 mL/kg body weight CCl_(4),25 mg/kg body weight/day silymarin(a standard hepatoprotective antioxidant),500 mg/kg body weight aqueous extract of *** leaves were administered to the CCl_(4)treated rats for 21 ***:Administration of the extract and silymarin increase significantly(Pmarker enzyme(aspartate aminotransferase,alanine aminotransferase,alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase)activities in serum,liver and kidney in the treated groups when compared with untreated *** antioxidant parameters(catalase,peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase)were significantly elevated(Pmals treated with the extract and silymarin in comparison with untreated ***_(4)induced oxidative stress mediated variations in total cholesterol,triacylglycerides,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol,low density lipoprotein cholesterol and very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were restored significantly(Pm this study indicated the antioxidant and antidyslipidemic potentials of the aqueous extract of *** leaves.

A study on seasonal abundance,morphometric and meristic data,growth pattern,condition fector,sex ratio and gonadosomatic index of Liza falcip-innis(Wlenciennes,1836)from the Ojo axis of Badagry creek,Nigeria was conducted from may 2019 to march 2020.A total of 1012 species were randomly selected,having 499 females and 513 *** length frequency analysis and length-weight relationships(LWR)were *** ratio was determined by Chi-square *** results showed that morphometric data are:0.5-2.5 mm for ED,2.1-12 mm for HL,1.7-8.1 mm for HD,2.5-11.7 for BD,2.6-233.3 mm for TL and 9.23-1006 g for BW for the combined *** slope(b)shows an allometric growth *** intercept'a'and slope'b'of the LWR(LogW=a+bLogL)were Log W=15.39+0.34 LogL(r=0.54)for combined sexes,Log W=12.49+0.02 log L(r=0.38)for males and Log W=18.23+0.01 log L(r=0.16)for *** length frequency distribution indicated that species were dominated by two year classes(Ages 1 and 2).Condition factors were generally *** values ranged between 0.68-0.85 for combined *** gonadosomatic index for female was highest in August,2019(17.77%)with mean±SD of 2.88±0.75;which indicated the peak of spawning period in the study *** ratio difference was significant(Pmales are phenotypically larger than the male.
