Efficacy of oral consumption of curcumin/Curcuma longa for symptom improvement in inflammatory bowel disease:A systematic review of animal models and a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

The roots of the vegetal Curcuma due to its high content of polyphenols,has been used successfully in several clinical *** review assessed the effect of curcumin/Curcuma longa on symptoms and metabolic changes in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).A systematic review of animal models and randomized clinical trials(RCTs)was conducted by searching the following electronic databases:PubMed,CENTRAL,LILACS,Science Direct,and *** 997 found records,62 were *** than 90%of the animal studies reported an improvement in macroscopic,histologic and/or functional activity;80%identified decreased oxidative and/or inflammatory biomarkers in animals treated with *** the RCTs,intention-to-treat analysis showed that oral curcumin was effective in inducing clinical remission(n=281,RR:3.15 CI 95%[1.22–8.10]p=0.0017;i2=72.2%,p=0.006)and clinical response(n=259,RR:1.60 CI 95%[1.09–2.35]p=0.0017;i2=59.7%,p=0.042)but not endoscopic remission(n=161,RR:2.91 CI 95%[0.58–14.58]p=0.195;i2=72.7%,p=0.026).These results confirm that oral supplementation with curcumin/Curcuma longa has beneficial actions in animal colitis and,when associated with drug therapy,is effective in the treatment of patients with IBD.

Curcumin,a natural product,has exhibited promising effects in both animal models and clinical trials,interacting with a multitude of factors linked to Inflammatory Bowel Disease(IBD).These factors encompass cytokines,oxidative stress-associated enzymes,and modulation of the intestinal ***,curcumin has demonstrated therapeutic potential in animal models of colitis,wherein it exerts a negative regulatory influence on pivotal signaling pathways such as PI3/Akt,JAK/STAT,andβ-***,it inhibits the expression of proinflammatory enzymes and co-stimulatory molecules(including RANKL,ICAM-1,CD205,CD256,TLR4,among others),while curbing immune cell chemotaxis,thereby attenuating the characteristic neutrophil infiltration observed in *** facet of curcumin’s action involves its modulation of the intestinal ***,the microbiota itself contributes to beneficial biotrans formations of curcumin,thereby enhancing its effectiveness in IBD *** a clinical front,curcumin has demonstrated the ability to induce clinical and/or endoscopic remission without any reported toxic ***,curcumin warrants consideration as an adjunctive therapy in IBD *** clinical investigations should concentrate on meticulously evaluating curcumin’s impact on these precise therapeutic targets.

Comparison of Surgical Techniques Used in Treating Acromioclavicular Dislocation in Patients Participating in Sports: A Systematic Review

Introduction: The acromioclavicular joint is a superficial diarthrodial joint that surrounds the medial articular facet of the acromion and the distal portion of the clavicle. Due to its anatomy and biomechanics, it is highly susceptible to trauma and in young men who play contact sports, acromioclavicular dislocation is common. This article aimed to systematically review the literature and compare the surgical techniques used in the treatment of acromioclavicular dislocation in patients who practice sports. Methods: This systematic review was conducted according to the International Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Eligible studies for this systematic review included articles in English or Spanish published between 2013 and 2023, which mention the occurrence of acromioclavicular dislocation during sports practices. Additionally, only studies that addressed the surgical treatment of acromion-clavicular dislocation and contained original data on the topic were included. Results: We found 144 eligible studies after searching the LILACS and PubMed databases. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and the reviewers’ consensus, we selected four studies for the systematic review. 133 patients with AC joint displacement were evaluated. Mean Age: approximately 31.90 years. 81.92 of these injuries occurred during sports practice. Surgical Procedures Used: titanium plates fixation (49 patients), arthroscopy (24), single tunnel technique (30) and coracoid sling technique (30). The results of the visual analog scale and Constant-Murley scores varied between the techniques used. Twenty-two complications after surgical treatment were identified. Conclusion: A significant variability of operative techniques can be used in the surgical approach of acromioclavicular dislocation, such as arthroscopy, single tunnel, coracoid sling and titanium plates. Insights into gastric neuroendocrine tumors burden

Type 1 gastric neuroendocrine tumors （gNETs） are usually small lesions, restricted to mucosal and sub-mucosal layers of corpus and fundus, with low aggressive behavior, for the majority of cases. Nevertheless, some cases present aggressive behavior. The increasing incidence of gNETs brings together a new relevant problem： how to identify potentially aggressive type I gNETs. The challenging problem seems to be finding out signs or features able to predict potentially aggressive cases, allowing a tailored approach, since the involved societies dedicated to provide guidelines for management of these neoplasms apparently failed in producing staging systems able to accurately predict prognosis of these tumors. Additionally, it is also important to try to find out explanations for increasing incidence, as well as to identify potential targets aiming to reach better control of this neoplasia. Here, we discuss potential pathways implicated in aggressive behavior, as well as new strategies to improve clinical management of these tumors.

Different culture conditions applied to in vitro shoot multiplication of two Eucalyptus benthamii explant sources

Eucalyptus adult material requires more successive subcultures in the in vitro multiplication phase for increased vigor and cellular activity. This study evaluated the endophytic manifestation and shoot multiplication of one 13-year-old Eucalyptus benthamii clone under different culture conditions and used canopy branches(CB) and trunk base material as explant sources. The culture media were wood plant medium(WPM), Murashige and Skoog medium(MS) and JADS(Correia and co-authors medium).Based on the results of the initial multiplication experiment, further tests examined sucrose concentrations and p H. Morphophysiology, dry mass production, endophyticmanifestation and histochemical were determined. Explant sources responded differently to MS and JADS media, but the WPM medium promoted homogeneous *** responses were similar for both explant sources when sucrose concentrations varied. Shoots died in the absence of sucrose, showed high oxidation at 60 g L-1 and optimal development at 30 g L-1. Endophytes were more evident for shoots from the CB origin. Explant sources responded distinctively to treatment due to physiological and intrinsic genetic factors. Therefore, explant sources, different culture media, sucrose concentration and p H may determine micropropagation success and influence the presence and/or intensity of endophytic manifestation.

Effect of mini-cutting size on adventitious rooting and morphophysiological quality of Ilex paraguariensis plantlets

As the energizing and therapeutic effects of infusions of mate(Ilex paraguariensis ***.-Hil)leaves are increasingly recognized,rising global consumption is also increasing the demand for plantlets with high genetic and morphological ***-cuttings are an alternative for clonal plantlets;however,more details are needed on factors that affect the success of this ***,toward maximizing production,we evaluated adventitious rooting competence of mini-cuttings of different sizes and the morphophysiological quality of the resultant ***(one bud;length up to 2.5 cm),medium(multiple buds;length 2.6–5.0 cm),and large(multiple buds;length 5.1–10.0 cm)mini-cuttings were planted in a mixture of commercial substrate,vermiculite,and coarse sand(1:1:1 v:v:v),grown in a humidity chamber,then evaluated after 45,60,75,and 90 days for survival,percentage of callus and shoot formation,number and length of shoots,percentage of rooted cuttings,and number and length of *** rooted mini-cuttings were then cultivated in commercial substrate and subsurface soil(2:1 v:v)and evaluated after 30,60,90 and 120 days of cultivation for morphophysiology of the plantlets,percentage of survival,number of leaves,shoot height,stem diameter,and ratio of shoot height to stem *** 120 days,the plantlets were evaluated for the ratio of shoot and root dry mass,total length,surface area,total volume,and mean diameter of roots and Dickson quality *** rooting of the mini-cuttings and the morphophysiological quality of the plantlets were not influenced by the size of the vegetative ***,single-bud mini-cuttings have similar adventitious rooting competence,and result in plantlets with adequate morphophysiological quality,based upon leaf development,shoot height,stem diameter and length,and surface area,volume and diameter of ***-bud mini-cuttings up to 2.5 cm long can thus be used to maximize production of mate plantlets by mini-c

Strength, deformability and permeability of kakiritic rocks from the Gotthard base tunnel

The 57-km long,new Gotthard Base Tunnel(GBT)crosses over a 1.1-km long stretch containing kakirites,*** rocks which,depending on the degree of tectonisation,may exhibit severe squeezing behaviour upon tunnel *** tunnel stretch was already identified as a key problem in the early planning phase,necessitating intensive geological exploration and laboratory investigations over a 14-year period,including research and development in experimental *** laboratory investigations for the GBT provided not only a considerable amount of data about the geotechnical parameters of the kakirites,but also valuable information about their basic behaviour and the adequacy of various testing techniques for this type of ***,by using specially designed testing equipment and procedures,it was shown that,(1)conventional rock mechanics triaxial tests cannot provide reliable results for kakirites;(2)the kakirites obey the principle of effective stress in Terzaghi’s classical form and consequently it is indispensable to measure the pore pressure during triaxial testing,analogously to the consolidated drained(CD)and consolidated undrained(CU)tests in soil mechanics;(3)the effects of a possible loss of water and desaturation during sampling,transport,storage and preparation of specimens can be successfully mitigated by subjecting the specimens to flow-through before the actual triaxial testing;and,(4)CD tests on partially saturated specimens that are obtained by means of flow-through can provide reliable and reproducible *** saves a significant amount of time,allows a greater number of tests to be performed,and allows results to be obtained more quickly,which is particularly important for decision-making during tunnel advance.

The Full Multi-wake Vortex Lattice Method:a detached flow model based on Potential Flow Theory

One of the main issues concerning the standard Vortex Lattice Method is its application to partially or fully detached flow conditions,where non-linear aerodynamic characteristics appear as the angle of attack increases and/or the aspect ratio *** order to solve such limitations,a pure numerical approach based entirely on the Vortex Lattice Method concepts has been *** so-called steady“Full Multi-wake Vortex Lattice Method”comes from the main hypothesis that each discretized element on the body’s surface detaches their own wakes *** obtained results match for lift,drag and moment coefficients for the entire aspect ratio range configurations(under straight wakes and inviscid assumptions).Future unsteady versions of such a multi-wake approach could improve the current results obtained through Vortex Element Methods(as vortons or isolated vortex filaments).

Presence of c.3956del C mutation in familial adenomatous polyposis patients from Brazil

AIM: To characterize APC gene mutations and correlate them with patient phenotypes in individuals diagnosed with familial adenomatous polyposis(FAP) in northern Brazil. METHODS: A total of 15 individuals diagnosed with FAP from 5 different families from the north of Brazil were analyzed in this study. In addition to patients with histopathological diagnosis of FAP,family members who had not developed the disease were also tested in order to identify mutations and for possible genetic counseling. All analyzed patients or their guardians signed a consent form approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the jo?o de Barros Barreto University Hospital(Belem,Brazil). DNA extracted from the peripheral blood of a member of each of the affected families was subjected to direct sequencing. The proband of each family was sequenced to identify germline mutations using the Ion Torrent platform. To validate the detected mutations,Sanger sequencing was also performed. The samples from all patients were also tested for the identification of mutations by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction using the amplification refractory mutation system. RESULTS: Through interviews with relatives and a search of medical records,it was possible to construct genograms for three of the five families included in the study. All 15 patients from the five families with FAP exhibited mutations in the APC gene,and all mutations were detected in exon 15 of the APC gene. In addition to the patients with a histological diagnosis of FAP,family members without disease symptoms showed the mutation in the APC gene. In the present study,we detected two of the three most frequent germline mutations in the literature: the mutation at codon 1309 and the mutation at codon 1061. The presence of c.3956 del C mutation was found in all families from this study,and suggests that this mutation was introduced in the population of the State of Pará through ancestor immigration(i.e.,a de novo mutation that arose
