Size analysis of slag eye formed by gas blowing in ladle refining

The formation of slag eye in a gas stirred ladle was studied through cold models and industrial trials. In the cold model,water and sodium tungstate solution were employed to simulate liquid steel,and silicon oil was employed to simulate slag. The simulation results revealed that the gas flow rate and bath height had strong effects on the slag eye size. In particular,the thickness of slag layer played a strong role in the slag eye size. In addition,the slag eye could not be formed when the thickness of the top layer was more than 4 cm in water-silicone oil model.Besides,the section area of vessel had a great impact on the slag eye size. Industrial trials results showed a similar trend that the gas flow rate was very significant on the slag eye size. The predictions of the existing models showed larger predictions deviations compared with the experimental data. Moreover,a new model without fitting parameters was developed based on force balance and mathematical derivation,and verified by the experimental data. The new model provides the prediction with small deviations by comparing with the data acquired from cold models and industrial trials.

Morphological parameters of coarse aggregates,including the angularity index (Al),flat and elongated ratio,flatness ratio,and sphericity,strongly affect the performance of asphalt concrete.A device must be developed to efficiently and accurately measure these parameters.Herein,a charge-coupled device camera and a linear profile scanner are combined to evaluate the parameters.The Al is calculated using three methods.The results show that the fitted-ellipse method provides superior results among the three Al measurement methods.Moreover,the use of a linear profile scanner improves the Al measurement accuracy.Therefore,the proposed combination has high measurement efficiency and is suitable for batch inspections.

There are seemingly controversial arguments in Marx＇s works on morality.For one thing, we can exphcidy find his rejection of morality, and contemporary westernscholars, especially Anglo - American scholars who have devoted in Marxist moral theory holdthat Marx is an amoralist, even anti -moralist. For another, we can also discover his moral cri-tiques on capitalism. For this reason,it has great practical significance to clarify the relationshipbetween Marmsm and morality. This topic will be elucidated under the background of histori-cal materialism and clarified from two aspects in this essay：to make sure why Marx＇s critiqueof capitalism does not base on moral principle and point out diametrically theoretical founda-tion between historical materialism and traditional morality;to clarify in what sense Marx is anamoralist, and emphasize it is in his rejection of abstract morality as guiding principle of critici-zing capitalism that he is an amoralist.

Ocotillol(OT)-type ginsenosides,one subtype of ginsenosides,consist of a dammarane skeleton and a tetrahydrofuran ring.Most naturally-occurring OT-type ginsenosides exist in Panax species,particularly in Panax quinquefolius,which may be attributed to the warm and humid climate of its native areas.Till now,merely 28 types of naturally-occurring OT-type ginsenosides have been isolated.In contrast,semi-synthesized OT-type ginsenosides are attracted considerable attentions.These ginsenosides can be obtained through oxidation and cyclization of side chains of dammarane-type ginsenosides,and other methods,which may change their physical and chemical properties and further improve their bioavailabilities.It is also notable that the pharmacological activities of ginsenosides are closely related to the stereoisomers caused by the configuration at C-20.Semi-synthesis of OT-type ginsenosides can facilitate our understanding of the biosynthesis,transformation and metabolism of OT-type ginsenosides in the body.This review will systematically summarize the research progress on naturally-occurring and semi-synthetic OT-type ginsenosides,which provides a theoretical basis for their bioactivity-guided research.

Al/Ni multilayer composites are produced by accumulative roll bonding process and then annealed with different temperatures and time.Macroscopic images,microstructure and mechanical properties of Al/Ni multilayer composites are investigated.As for the macroscopic images,although there was an edge crack along the rolling direction at the third pass,the defect of composites was not serious and the forming quality of composites was relatively good.The yield strength and elongation of Al/Ni multilayer composites are improved after the annealing treatment;however,with the increase in annealing temperature and time,the yield strength and ciongation of Al/Ni multilayer composites are decreased.During the process of annealing treatment,aluminum atoms diffuse in the way of vacancy diffusion,which results in the formation of Al3Ni intermetallic phase at Al/Ni interface and Kirkendall void in the aluminum side.The content of Al3Ni intermetallic phase and Kirkenckill void would increase with the increase in annealing temperature and time.

Although a few high-strength biodegradable Zn alloys with yield strengths(YSs)over 300 MPa in rolled state have been developed,their elongations(ELs)are generally less than 30%.This study developed rolled Zn-2Cu-x Li(x=0.2 wt.%,0.5 wt.%,0.8 wt.%)alloys with YSs of 316-335 MPa and ELs of 44%-61%.Three-dimensional atom probe(3DAP)and time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry(TOF-SIMS)were employed to characterize Li distribution.Three kinds of Zn-Cu-Li ternary phases are identified,which are blockyε′-(Cu_(0.5),Li_(0.5))Zn 4,blockyβ′-(Li_(0.9),Cu_(0.1))Zn 4,and small roundγparticles with high Li content in the annealed state.Other identified phases are Zn,β-LiZn 4,andε-CuZn 4 phases.With the increase of Li content in the alloys,ε′phase with 6.50 at.%Cu transforms intoβ′phase with 2.12 at.%Cu,i.e.,the average level in the alloys.Withinε′phase,there exist nano-scale Li clusters andεphase,resulting inε′/εstructure.Dense Zn laths precipitate fromβ′phase,resulting inβ′/Zn lamellar structure.The lamel-lar structure is the matrix of Zn-2Cu-0.8Li and leads to near-isotropic plasticity.Electrochemistry tests show that degradation rates fall in the range of 153-196μm/year,which decrease with Li content.All the alloys exert positive effects on the growth of MC3T3-E1 cells with 10%extract.This research reveals how microstructure evolves in Zn-2Cu-x Li alloys,which lays the foundation for their future applications.

A newly designed electric assisted micro-electrolysis filter（E-ME） was developed to investigate its degradation efficiency for coking wastewater and correlated characteristics. The performance of the E-ME system was compared with separate electrolysis（SE） and micro-electrolysis（ME） systems. The results showed a prominent synergistic effect on COD removal in E-ME systems. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry（GC–MS） analysis confirmed that the applied electric field enhanced the degradation of phenolic compounds.Meanwhile, more biodegradable oxygen-bearing compounds were detected. SEM images of granular activated carbon（GAC） showed that inactivation and blocking were inhibited during the E-ME process. The effects of applied voltage and initial p H in E-ME systems were also studied. The best voltage value was 1 V, but synergistic effects existed even with lower applied voltage. E-ME systems exhibited some p H buffering capacity and attained the best efficiency in neutral media, which means that there is no need to adjust p H prior to or during the treatment process. Therefore, E-ME systems were confirmed as a promising technology for treatment of coking wastewater and other refractory wastewater.
