Magnesium alloys are considered the most suitable absorbable metals for bone fracture fixation *** main challenge in absorbable magnesium alloys is their high corrosion/degradation rate that needs to be *** coatings have been applied to magnesium alloys to slow down their corrosion rates to match their corrosion rate to the regeneration rate of the bone *** this review,a bioactive coating is proposed to slow down the corrosion rate of magnesium alloys and accelerate the bone fracture healing *** main aim of the bioactive coatings is to enhance the direct attachment of living tissues and thereby facilitate ***,collagen type I,recombinant human bone morphogenetic proteins 2,simvastatin,zoledronate,and strontium are six bioactive agents that show high potential for developing a bioactive coating system for high-performance absorbable magnesium bone *** addition to coating,the substrate itself can be made bioactive by alloying magnesium with calcium,zinc,copper,and manganese that were found to promote bone regeneration.

This work is focused on developing zinc-doped hydroxyapatite-zeolite(Zn HA-Zeo)and polycaprolactone(PCL)composite coatings on magnesium(Mg)substrate to improve the corrosion resistance and antimicrobial ***-coating technique was used to coat Zn HA-Zeo/PCL on the Mg substrate at room *** samples were subjected to field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX)and antimicrobial *** demonstrated that composite coatings consist of HA,scholzite,zeolite,and PCL *** spectra indicated the presence of calcium(Ca),silicon(Si),aluminum(Al),zinc(Zn),phosphorus(P)and oxygen(O).The composite surface appeared in spherical-like microstructure on coating with thickness ranging 226-260μ***-doped HA-Zeo composite coating had a high corrosion resistance and provided sufficient protection to the Mg surface against galvanic *** Zn HA-Zeo coating samples exhibited superior disc inhibition by confirming antimicrobial activity against the *** as compared to HA-Zeo *** these results showed that the Zn HA-Zeo coatings not only improved the corrosion resistance,but also enhanced the antimicrobial property and hence they can be used as suitable candidates for implant applications.

Using LBG quantization for particle-based collision detection algorithm

Most collision detection algorithms can be efficiently used only with solid and rigid objects, for instance, Hierarchical methods which must have their bounding representation recalculated every time deformation occurs. An alternative algorithm using particle-based method is then proposed which can detect the collision among non-rigid deformable polygonal models. However, the original particle-based collision detection algorithm might not be sufficient enough in some situations due to the improper particle dispersion. Therefore, this research presents an improved algorithm which provides a particle to detect in each separated area so that particles always covered all over the object. The surface partitioning can be efficiently performed by using LBG quantization since it can classify object vertices into several groups base on a number of factors as required. A particle is then assigned to move between vertices in a group by the attractive forces received from other particles on neighbouring objects. Collision is detected when the distance between a pair of corresponding particles becomes very small. Lastly, the proposed algo- rithm has been implemented to show that collision detection can be conducted in real-time.

Effect of deposition parameters on structural and mechanical properties of niobium nitride synthesized by plasma focus device

Effects of deposition angle and axial distance on the structural and mechanical properties of niobium nitride syn- thesized by a dense plasma focus （DPF） system are studied. The x-ray diffraction （XRD） confirms that the deposition parameters affect the growth of multi-phase niobium nitride. Scanning electron microscopy （SEM） shows the granular surface morphology with strong thermally assisted coagulation effects observed at the 5-cm axial distance. The non-porous granular morphology observed at the 9-cm distance along the anode axis is different from those observed at deposition angles of 10° and 20°. Energy dispersive x-ray （EDX） spectroscopy reveals the maximum nitrogen content at the shortest （5 cm） axial position. Atomic force microscopy （AFM） exhibits that the roughness of coated films varies for coatings synthesized at different axial and angular positions, and the Vickers micro-hardness test shows that a maximum hardness value is （08.44 ±0.01） GPa for niobium nitride synthesized at 5-cm axial distance, which is about 500% more than that of a virgin sample.

Association of Obesity with Infertility among Pakistani Men: A Case Control Study

Background: The reported prevalence of infertility in Pakistan is 21% of which 35% is contributed by male factor. Male infertility has multifactorial etiologies ranging from modifiable to genetic risk factors. Among all the risk factors that may account for male infertility, obesity is one of the emerging public health problems. Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine the association of obesity with infertility in Pakistani men. Methods: We conducted a case control study. Cases were men with impaired semen parameters and controls did not have impaired semen parameters. Results: The final multivariable logistic regression model after adjusting for the effect of other variables revealed that with every 1 kg/m2 increase in BMI the odds of being infertile was 6% higher as compared to being fertile (aOR = 1.06;95% CI = 1.01, 1.11). Moreover the odds of having education of higher secondary or above was 3 times greater among cases as compared with the controls (OR = 3.10;95% CI = 1.66, 5.77). Furthermore the odds of having previous medical conditions increasing the risk of infertility was higher among cases as compared with the controls (OR = 3.07;95% CI = 1.63, 5.79). Conclusion & recommendations: This study indicates that obesity is an important risk factor for male infertility. Moreover our findings also indicate that higher educational status and previous medical conditions are also associated with male infertility. Thus awareness can be raised through treating physicians and public health messages.
