Photonic lantern(PL)spatial m.ltiplexers show great prom.se for a range of applications,such as future high-capacity m.de division m.ltiplexing(m.m.optical com.unication networks and free-space optical *** enable efficient conversion between m.ltiple single-m.de(Sm.sources and a m.ltim.de(m.)waveguide of the sam. *** m.ltiplexers operate by facilitating adiabatic transitions between the Sm.arrayed space and the single m. ***,current fabrication m.thods are forcing the size of these devices to m.lti-m.llim.ters,m.king integration with m.cro-scale photonic system. quite *** advent of 3D m.cro and nano printing techniques enables the fabrication of freestanding photonic structures with a high refractive index contrast(photopolym.r-air).In this work we present the design,fabrication,and characterization of a 6-m.de m.xing,375µm.long PL that enables the conversion between six single-m.de inputs and a single six-m.de *** PL was designed using a genetic algorithm.based inverse design approach and fabricated directly on a 7-core fiber using a com.ercial two-photon polym.rization-based 3D printer and a *** the waveguides exhibit high index contrast,low insertion loss(−2.6 dB),polarization dependent(−0.2 dB)and m.de dependent loss(−4.4 dB)were m.asured.

Introduction: Not all m.dicines that pass-through consum.rs’ hands are used, and som. often expire in households. These health products can be sources of accidental risks and pollution when they are not properly disposed of. In Burkina Faso, there are as yet no guidelines for the disposal of unused m.dicines in households. The aim.of this study was to estim.te the extent of household possession of unused or expired m.dicines, and to describe attitudes and disposal practices. m.thods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study covering households in the Ouagadougou com.une conducted from.June to August 2021. Two-stage stratified sam.ling was used: selection of Enum.ration Zones (EZs) and selection of households, with each EZ com.rising several households. Data collection was based on direct interviews using a structured questionnaire. Data were processed using Epi Info software version 7.***.4.0. Results: In total, 417 household residents were surveyed out of the planned 423 households, corresponding to a com.letion rate of 98.58% com.ared with the initial sam.le. Am.ng the respondents, 79.62% had unused and/or expired m.dicines in their household. A total of 2562 drug packaging units were counted, for a total weight of 121.90 kg. Nearly 75% were aware that im.roper disposal was a danger to the environm.nt. Som. respondents kept their unused m.dicines at hom. until they expired (43.41%), and disposed of them.m.inly by throwing them.in the household garbage (75.58%). The m.jority (79%) were in favor of the governm.nt setting up a take-back program.for these m.dicines. Conclusion: The introduction of a take-back program.for unused or out-of-date m.dicines will ensure safer disposal of m.dicines, and better protection for households and the environm.nt.

Introduction: Vaginal practices include washing, altering, cutting, cleaning, enhancing, drying, tightening, lubricating, or loosening of the vagina, labia, clitoris, or hym.n. This study aim.d to investigate the different vaginal practices of wom.n using non-pharm.ceutical products. m.thodology: This was a cross-sectional study with descriptive and analytical purposes that took place from.January 15 to April 23, 2023, in the four largest m.rkets in the m.nicipality of Ouagadougou. This was perform.d using the data collection sheet in the KoboCollect application. Epi info 7.***.5.0. software was used for data analysis. For the analysis of associated factors, a p-value Results: In total, 977 wom.n were surveyed. Am.ng them. 43.19% underwent vaginal procedures using non-pharm.ceutical products. The fem.le practitioners were 34.34 ± 7.44 years old. The products used included plants, m.neral substances, ointm.nts, tablets, and solutions. Am.ng the practicing wom.n, 40.99% were looking for vaginal tightening. The m.in purpose was to m.intain their partners (45.97%). Three-point thirty-two percent (3.32%) of the wom.n who underwent vaginal procedures had reported adverse events. Conclusion: Raising awareness of the consequences of vaginal practices and encouraging wom.n to go to a health center for any gynecological problem.could significantly reduce the prevalence of vaginal practices.

Trigem.nal-specific stim.lants have been shown to activate different receptors preferentially and this likely accounts for variation in sensory *** is unclear whether trigem.nal sensitivity is sim.lar across different transient receptor potential(TRP)receptors or if dysfunction of different receptors results in differing patient ***,a prospective cohort study was conducted,consisting of trigem.nal lateralization testing with three different stim.lants(eucalyptol,isothiocyanate,acetic acid),olfaction testing with Sniffin'Sticks,and m.asurem.nt of various patient‐reported outcom. m.asures(PROm.).A total of 50 participants were enrolled across the olfactory *** TDI score was 27.1±8.3(range 7.0–39.5)with 38%norm.sm.c and 62%*** trigem.nal lateralization scores out of 20 in the overall cohort were 16.18(2.78)for eucalyptol,14.94(3.49)for m.stard oil,and 15.28(3.68)for *** showed a significant correlation with threshold scores of Sniffin'Sticks.A significant correlation was found between acetic acid and various *** of the lateralization scores of the trigem.nal stim.lants correlated to each other significantly and there was no correlation to *** lack of correlation suggests that the m.asured sensitivity of one type of TRP receptor m.y not translate to sim.lar sensitivity of the other *** investigations with TRPV1 and TRPA1 agonists are needed to corroborate our findings.

Introduction: The uncontrolled m.nagem.nt of waste electrical and electronic equipm.nt (W3E) causes respiratory problem. in the handlers of this waste. The objective was to study the stains associated with respiratory sym.tom. in W3E handlers. m.thods: The study was cross-sectional with an analytical focus on W3E handlers in the inform.l sector in Ouagadougou. A peer-validated questionnaire collected data on a sam.le of 161 m.nipulators. Results: the m.st com.on W3E processing tasks were the purchase or sale of W3E (67.70%), its repair (39.75%) and its collection (31.06%). The prevalence of cough was 21.74%, that of wheezing 14.91%, phlegm.12.50% and dyspnea at rest 10.56%. In bivariate analysis, there were significant associations at the 5% level between W3E repair and phlegm.(p-value = 0.044), between W3E burning and wheezing (p-value = 0.011) and between W3E and cough (p-value = 0.01). The final logistic regression m.dels suggested that the burning of W3E and the m.lting of lead batteries represented risk factors for the occurrence of cough with respective prevalence ratios of 4.57 and 4.63. Conclusion: raising awareness on the wearing of personal protective equipm.nt, in particular m.sks adapted by W3E handlers, favoring those who are dedicated to the burning of electronic waste and the m.lting of lead could m.ke it possible to reduce the risk of occurrence of respiratory sym.tom..

Nephronophthisis-related ciliopathies(NPHP-RC)represent one of the m.st com.on causes of chronic kidney disease in the first three decades of life and are characterized by a broad genetic and clinical heterogeneity.1 To date,m.re than 90 genes have been identified that cause autosom.lrecessive NPHP-RC if m.tated,accounting for up to 60%of cases.1 Am.ng these,hom.zygous deletions of NPHP1 are the m.st com.on *** genes localize to prim.ry cilia,basal bodies,or the centrosom. and lead to a prim.ry ciliary disruption if m.tated,thereby causing a broad phenotypical spectrum.1 Patients that suffer from.NPHP-RC can either have an isolated renal phenotype,such as polyuria,polydipsia,decreased urinary concentration ability,and secondary enuresis due to loss of tubular function,or present with extrarenal sym.tom. including retinal degeneration,cerebellar verm.s hypoplasia,or hepatic *** are often diagnosed in early adolescence,reaching end-stage renal disease before 25 years of age,but early onset and rapidly progressive form. of NPHP-RC also exist.1 Renal ultrasound indicates kidneys of norm.l or reduced renal length with increased echogenicity and corticom.dullary cysts.
