Plants contain various factors that transiently interact with subunits or intermediates of the thylakoid multiprotein complexes, promoting their stable association and integration. Hence, assembly factors are essential for chloroplast development and the transition from heterotrophic to phototrophic growth. Snowy cotyledon 2 （SCO2） is a DNAJ-like protein involved in thylakoid membrane biogenesis and interacts with the light-harvesting chlorophyll-binding protein LHCBI. In Arabidopsis thaliana, SCO2 function was previ- ously reported to be restricted to cotyledons. Here we show that disruption of SC02 in Lotus japonicus results not only in paler cotyledons but also in variegated true leaves. Furthermore, smaller and pale- green true leaves can also be observed in A. thaliana sco2 （atsco2） mutants under short-day conditions. In both species, SCO2 is required for proper accumulation of PSlI-LHCll complexes. In contrast to other variegated mutants, inhibition of chloroplastic translation strongly affects L. japonicus sco2 mutant devel- opment and fails to suppress their variegated phenotype. moreover, inactivation of the suppressor of variegation AtClpR1 in the atsco2 background results in an additive double-mutant phenotype with variegated true leaves. Taken together, our results indicate that SCO2 plays a distinct role in PSll assembly or repair and constitutes a novel factor involved in leaf variegation.

The basic reproduction number of an infectious agent is the average number of infections one case can generate over the course of the infectious period,in a naïve,uninfected *** is well-known that the estimation of this number may vary due to several methodological issues,including different assumptions and choice of parameters,utilized models,used datasets and estimation *** the spreading of the novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV)infection,the reproduction number has been found to vary,reflecting the dynamics of transmission of the coronavirus outbreak as well as the case reporting *** to significant variations in the control strategies,which have been changing over time,and thanks to the introduction of detection technologies that have been rapidly improved,enabling to shorten the time from infection/symptoms onset to diagnosis,leading to faster confirmation of the new coronavirus cases,our previous estimations on the transmission risk of the 2019-nCoV need to be *** using time-dependent contact and diagnose rates,we refit our previously proposed dynamics transmission model to the data available until January 29th,2020 and re-estimated the effective daily reproduction ratio that better quantifies the evolution of the *** estimated when the effective daily reproduction ratio has fallen below 1 and when the epidemics will *** updated findings suggest that the best measure is persistent and strict *** epidemics will continue to grow,and can peak soon with the peak time depending highly on the public health interventions practically implemented.

Photolithography by a tunable electro-optical lithium niobate phase array

Photolithography experiments are performed by means of an optical phase mask with electrooptically tunable phase step. The phase mask consists of a 2-dimensional hexagonal lattice of inverted ferroelectric domains fabricated on a z-cut lithium niobate substrate. The electro-optically tunable phase step, between inverted domain, is obtained by the application of an external electric field along the z axis of the crystal via transparent electrodes. The collimated beam of an argon laser passes through the phase mask and the near field intensity patterns, at different planes of the Talbot length and for different values of the applied voltage, are used for photolithographic experiments. Preliminary results are shown and further applications are discussed.

Breast cancer stem cells: The role of sex steroid receptors

Breast cancer(BC)is the most common cancer among women,and current available therapies often have high success ***,BC might acquire drug resistance and sometimes *** knowledge about the most aggressive forms of BC points to the role of specific cells with stem properties located within BC,the so-called“BC stem cells”(BCSCs).The role of BCSCs in cancer formation,growth,invasiveness,therapy resistance and tumor recurrence is becoming increasingly *** growth and metastatic properties of BCSCs are regulated by different pathways,which are only partially *** steroid receptors(SSRs),which are involved in BC etiology and progression,promote BCSC proliferation,dedifferentiation and ***,in the literature,there is incomplete information about their ***,there are contrasting conclusions about the expression and role of the classical BC hormonal biomarkers,such as estrogen receptor alpha(ERα),together with scant,albeit promising information concerning ER beta(ERβ)and androgen receptor(AR)properties that control different transduction pathways in *** this review,we will discuss the role that SRs expressed in BCSCs play to BC progression and recurrence and how these findings have opened new therapeutic possibilities.

Objectives:To test for differences in overall and recurrence-free survival between laparoscopic and open surgical approaches in patients undergoing radical nephroureterectomy(RNU)for upper tract urothelial carcinoma(UTUC).materials and methods:We retrospectively identified patients treated for UTUC from 2010 to 2020 from our institutional *** undergoing laparoscopic or open RNU with no suspicion of metastasis(cm0)were for the current study *** with suspected metastases at diagnosis(cm1)or those undergoing other surgical treatments were *** was performed according to the laparoscopic versus open surgical ***-meier plots were used to test for differences in overall and recurrence-free survival with regard to the surgical ***,separate Kaplan-meier plots were used to test the effect of preoperative ureterorenoscopy on overall and recurrence-free survival within the overall study ***:Of the 59 patients who underwent nephroureterectomy,29%(n=17)underwent laparoscopic nephroureterectomy,whereas 71%(n=42)underwent open *** and tumor characteristics were comparable between groups(p≥0.2).The median overall survival was 93 and 73 months in the laparoscopic nephroureterectomy group compared to the open nephroureterectomy group(p=0.5),*** median recurrence-free survival did not differ between open and laparoscopic nephroureterectomies(73 months for both groups;p=0.9).Furthermore,the median overall and recurrence-free survival rates did not differ between patients treated with and without preoperative ***:The results of this retrospective,single-center institution showed that overall and recurrence-free survival rates did not differ between patients with UTUC treated with laparoscopic and open ***,preoperative ureterorenoscopy before RNU was not associated with higher overall or recurrence-free survival rates.

The present study aimed to determine the effect of wearing a face mask during aerobic dance exercise on cognitive function,more specifically on attention,as well as on perceived exertion and mood *** healthy college students(9 males and 4 females:mean age=17.5 years,height=1.72 m,weight=71.00 kg)volunteered to participate in this *** were randomized to perform aerobic dance exercise while wearing a cloth face mask or no mask or a control condition(sitting on a comfortable chair and reading information about the health benefits of aerobic dance exercise)on three separate occasions(with at least one week of interval).Rate of perceived exertion(RPE),the Brunel mood Scale(BRUmS)and d2 Attention assessment were assessed before and immediately after each *** results demonstrated higher concentration performance for the aerobic dance exercise without face mask than the control condition(p=0.05).Post RPE and BRUmS fatigue subscale values were significantly higher in the aerobic dance exercise with face mask as compared to the aerobic dance exercise without face mask and control condition(all,pmS vigor subscale value significantly differed across conditions(F=113.84,pmask as compared to the aerobic dance exercise with face mask and the control conditions(both,pmask use during aerobic dance exercise with moderate intensity did not affect ***,students and athletes should avoid wearing face mask while practicing physical activity or aerobic dance exercise with moderate intensity to improve its acute effect on cognitive function.

Nannochloropsis is rapidly emerging as a model organism for the study of biofuel production in ***, we report a high-quality genomic assembly of Nannochloropsis gaditana, consisting of large contigs, up to 500 kbplong, and scaffolds that in most cases span the entire length of the chromosomes. We identified 10646 complete genesand characterized possible alternative transcripts. The annotation of the predicted genes and the analysis of cellular pro-cesses revealed traits relevant for the genetic improvement of this organism such as genes involved in DNA recombina-tion, RNA silencing, and cell wall synthesis. We also analyzed the modification of the transcriptional profile in nitrogendeficiencyma condition known to stimulate lipid accumulation. While the content of lipids increased, we did not detectmajor changes in expression of the genes involved in their biosynthesis. At the same time, we observed a very signifi-cant down-regulation of mitochondrial gene expression, suggesting that part of the AcetyI-CoA and NAD（P）H, normallyoxidized through the mitochondrial respiration, would be made available for fatty acids synthesis, increasing the fluxthrough the lipid biosynthetic pathway. Background Vitamin D(25-OHD)has a role in bone health after treatment for cancer.25-OHD deficiency has been associated with risk factors for cardiovascular disease,but no data focusing on this topic in childhood cancer survivors have been *** investigated the 25-OHD status in children treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL),and evaluated its influence on vascular *** 25-OHD levels were evaluated in 52 ALL survivors and 40 matched healthy *** were grouped according to 25-OHD level(m or≥20 ng/ml).Auxological parameters,biochemical and hemostatic markers of endothelial function(AD,HmW-AD,ET-1,vWFAg,TAT,D-dimers,Fbg,and hs-CRP),ultrasound markers of vascular endothelial function(flow-mediated dilatation,FmD,common carotid intima-media thickness,C-ImT,and antero-posterior diameter of infra-renal abdominal aorta,APAO)were evaluated in the *** Cases showed higher prevalence of 25-OHD deficiency than controls(p=0.002).In univariate analysis via mean comparisons,25-OHD deficient(ml)patients showed higher C-ImT values compared to the 25-OHD non-deficient(≥20 ng/ml)group(P=0.023).Significant differences were also found for ET-1(P=0.035)and AD-HmW(P=0.015).In the multiple regression models controlling for some confounders,25-OHD still was associated with C-ImT(P=0.0163),ET-1(P=0.0077),and AD-HmW(P=0.0008).Conclusions Childhood ALL survivors show higher prevalence of 25-OHD deficiency as compared to *** 25-OHD levels appear to be linked to indicators of endothelial and vascular *** monitoring of 25-OHD balance may help to prevent cardiovascular diseases in childhood ALL survivors,characterized by high cardiovascular risk.

Diverse spatio-temporal aspects of avian migration rely on relatively rigid endogenous ***,flexibility in migratory behavior may allow effective coping with unpredictable variation in ecological conditions that can occur during *** aimed at characterizing inter-and intraindividual variation of migratory behavior in a forest-dwelling wader species,the Eurasian woodcock Scolopax rusticola,focusing on spatio-temporal consistency across repeated migration *** satellite-tracking birds from their wintering sites along the Italian peninsula to their breeding areas,we disclosed a remarkable variability in migration distances,with some birds flying more than 6,000 km to Central Asian breeding grounds(up to 101°E).Prebreeding migration was faster and of shorter duration than postbreeding *** moving over longer distances migrated faster during prebreeding migration,and those breeding at northernmost latitudes left their wintering areas ***,birds making longer migrations departed earlier from their breeding *** site fidelity was very high,whereas fidelity to wintering areas increased with *** routes were significantly consistent,both among repeated migration episodes and between pre-and postbreeding *** migration departure date was not significantly repeatable,whereas arrival date to the breeding areas was highly ***,interindividual variation in migratory behavior of woodcocks was mostly explained by the location of the breeding areas,and spatial consistency was relatively large through the entire annual *** in prebreeding migration departure date may suggest that environmental effects have a larger influence on temporal than on spatial aspects of migratory behavior.

Photonic Random-Access memories(P-RAm)are an essential component for the on-chip non-von Neumann photonic computing by eliminating optoelectronic conversion losses in data *** Phase-Change materials(PCms)have been showed multilevel memory capability,but demonstrations still yield relatively high optical loss and require cumbersome WRITE-ERASE approaches increasing power consumption and system package *** we demonstrate a multistate electrically programmed low-loss nonvolatile photonic memory based on a broadband transparent phase-change material(Ge2Sb2Se5,GSSe)with ultralow absorption in the amorphous state.A zero-staticpower and electrically programmed multi-bit P-RAm is demonstrated on a silicon-on-insulator platform,featuring efficient amplitude modulation up to 0.2 dB/μm and an ultralow insertion loss of total 0.12 dB for a 4-bit memory showing a 100×improved signal to loss ratio compared to other phase-change-materials based photonic *** further optimize the positioning of dual microheaters validating performance *** we demonstrate a half-a-million cyclability test showcasing the robust approach of this material and ***-loss photonic retention-of-state adds a key feature for photonic functional and programmable circuits impacting many applications including neural networks,LiDAR,and sensors for example.
