Trypsin-like activity is released after stimulation of the exocrine pancreas. We investigated under basal conditions and after stimulation by a meal whether patients suffering from pancreatic disorders differ with respect to plasma trypsin-like activity (PTLA). In 45 subjects (healthy volunteers: n = 18, mild/moderate alcoholic chronic pancreatitis: n = 16, nonjaundice pancreatic cancer n = 7, and calcifying chronic pancreatitis: n = 4), basal and postprandial levels of PTLA were measured over a period of 2 hours. Basal plasma levels were similar in the first 3 groups. After stimulation, healthy volunteers and patients with pancreatic cancer showed significant decreases in trypsin-like activity; however, plasma levels did not decrease in patients with mild/moderate chronic pancreatitis (P < .001). Healthy individuals demonstrate a consistent decrease in postprandial trypsin-like plasma activity. This response is not altered in patients with pancreatic cancer, and it is not seen in patients with mild/moderate alcoholic chronic pancreatitis.

Multidimensional integration and multifunctional com-ponent assembly have been greatly explored in recent years to extend Moore’s Law of modern ***,this inevitably exac-erbates the inhomogeneity of temperature distribution in microsystems,making precise temperature control for electronic components extremely ***,we report an on-chip micro temperature controller including a pair of thermoelectric legs with a total area of 50×50μm^(2),which are fabricated from dense and flat freestanding Bi2Te3-based ther-moelectric nano films deposited on a newly developed nano graphene oxide membrane *** tunable equivalent thermal resistance is controlled by electrical currents to achieve energy-efficient temperature control for low-power electronics.A large cooling temperature difference of 44.5 K at 380 K is achieved with a power consumption of only 445μW,resulting in an ultrahigh temperature control capability over 100 K mW^(-1).Moreover,an ultra-fast cooling rate exceeding 2000 K s^(-1) and excellent reliability of up to 1 million cycles are *** proposed on-chip temperature controller is expected to enable further miniaturization and multifunctional integration on a single chip for microelectronics.

The recent pandemic crisis has highlighted the importance of the availability and management of health data to respond quickly and effectively to health emergencies, while respecting the fundamental rights of every individual. In this context, it is essential to find a balance between the protection of privacy and the safeguarding of public health, using tools that guarantee transparency and consent to the processing of data by the population. This work, starting from a pilot investigation conducted in the Polyclinic of Bari as part of the Horizon Europe Seeds project entitled “Multidisciplinary analysis of technological tracing models of contagion: the protection of rights in the management of health data”, has the objective of promoting greater patient awareness regarding the processing of their health data and the protection of privacy. The methodology used the PHICAT (Personal Health Information Competence Assessment Tool) as a tool and, through the administration of a questionnaire, the aim was to evaluate the patients’ ability to express their consent to the release and processing of health data. The results that emerged were analyzed in relation to the 4 domains in which the process is divided which allows evaluating the patients’ ability to express a conscious choice and, also, in relation to the socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients themselves. This study can contribute to understanding patients’ ability to give their consent and improve information regarding the management of health data by increasing confidence in granting the use of their data for research and clinical management.

Vertical GaN power MOSFET is a novel technology that offers great potential for power switching *** still in an early development phase,vertical GaN devices are yet to be fully optimized and require careful studies to foster their *** this work,we report on the physical insights into device performance improvements obtained during the development of vertical GaN-on-Si trench MOSFETs(TMOS’s)provided by TCAD simulations,enhancing the dependability of the adopted process optimization ***,two different TMOS devices are compared in terms of transfer-curve hysteresis(H)and subthreshold slope(SS),showing a≈75%H reduction along with a≈30%SS *** allow attributing the achieved improvements to a decrease in the border and interface traps,respectively.A sensitivity analysis is also carried out,allowing to quantify the additional trap density reduction required to minimize both figures of merit.

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal bleeding(GIB)is a severe and potentially life-threatening condition,especially in cases of delayed *** tomography angiography(CTA)plays a pivotal role in the early identification of upper and lower GIB and in the prompt treatment of the *** To determine whether a volumetric estimation of the extravasated contrast at CTA in GIB may be a predictor of subsequent positive angiographic *** In this retrospective single-centre study,35 patients(22 men;median age 69 years;range 16-92 years)admitted to our institution for active GIB detected at CTA and further submitted to catheter angiography between january 2018 and February 2022 were ***-three(65.7%)patients underwent endoscopy before *** volumetry was evaluated in both arterial and venous phases via a semi-automated dedicated *** rate was obtained from volume change between the two phases and standardised for unit *** were divided into two groups,according to the angiographic signs and their concordance with *** Upper bleeding accounted for 42.9%and lower GIB for 57.1%.Mean haemoglobin value at the admission was 7.7 g/dL.A concordance between positive CTA and direct angiographic bleeding signs was found in 19(54.3%)*** no significant differences in terms of bleeding volume in the arterial phase(0.55 mL vs 0.33 mL,P=0.35),a statistically significant volume increase in the venous phase was identified in the group of patients with positive angiography(2.06 mL vs 0.9 mL,P=0.02).In the latter patient group,a significant increase in bleeding rate was also detected(2.18 mL/min vs 0.19 mL/min,P=0.02).CONCLUSION In GIB of any origin,extravasated contrast volumetric analysis at CTA could be a predictor of positive angiography and may help in avoiding further unnecessary procedures.

The jurassic is traditionally famous for shallow marine sediments that are often very fossiliferous, notably in Europe, where the standard chronostratigraphic subdivisions were established and defined. However, widespread marginal and non-marine jurassic sediments are also known, and are of great importance for the wellpreserved terrestrial biotas they contain, as well as for their hydrocarbon and coal reserves. IGCP Project 506 is directed towards finding means of correlation between marine and non-marine jurassic rocks, as a foundation for a better understanding of the evolution of the Earth during the jurassic Period.
