Ligand density-dependent influence of arginine-glycine- aspartate functionalized gold nanoparticles on osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells

Extracellular matrix （ECM） plays a very important role in regulating cell function and fate. It is highly desirable to fabricate biomimetic models to investigate the role of ECM in stem cell differentiation. In this study, arginine- glycine--aspartate （RGD）-modified gold nanoparticles （Au NPs） with tunable surface ligand density were prepared to mimic the ECM microenvironment. Their effect on osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） was investigated. The biomimetic Au NPs were taken up by MSCs in a ligand density-dependent manner. The biomimetic NPs with a high RGD density had an inhibitive effect on the alkaline phosphatase （ALP） activity, calcium deposition, and osteogenic marker gene expression of MSCs. Their effect on oil droplet formation and adipogenic marker gene expression was negative when RGD density was low, while their effect was promotive when RGD density was high. The biomimetic Au NPs regulated the osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of MSCs mainly through affecting the focal adhesion and cytoskeleton. This study highlights the roles of biomimetic NPs on stem cell differentiation that could provide a meaningful strategy in fabricating functional biomaterials for tissue engineering and biomedical applications.

Differentiation of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(hMSCs)is regulated by a variety of cues of their surrounding *** particular,mechanical properties of cell culture matrices have been recently disclosed to play a pivotal role in stem cell ***,it remains elusive how viscosity affects the chondrogenic differentiation of hMSCs during three-dimensional(3 D)*** this study,a 3 D culture system that was established by embedding viscous gelatin solution in chemically cross-linked gelatin hydrogels was used for 3 D culture of hMSCs in gelatin solutions with different *** influence of solution viscosity on chondrogenic differentiation of hMSCs was *** gelatin solutions promoted cell proliferation in the order of low,middle and high viscosity while elastic hydrogels restricted cell *** viscosity gelatin solution led to increased production of the cartilaginous *** the synergistic stimulation of chondrogenic induction factors,high viscosity was beneficial for the chondrogenic differentiation of *** results suggested the role of viscosity should be considered as one of the dominant mechanical cues affecting stem cell differentiation.

Preparation of PLGA-collagen hybrid scaffolds with controlled pore structures for cartilage tissue engineering

Scaffolds used for cartilage tissue engineering should have high mechanical strength and well-controlled pore structure to provide suitable microenvironments for functional tissue regeneration. In this study, hybrid scaffolds which had open and interconnected pore structure and high mechanical property were prepared by hybridization of PLGA mesh and collagen using ice particulates as porogen templates. Embossing ice particulates template was used to form open pore structures on the scaffold surfaces. Free ice particulates were used to generate interconnected bulk pores in the scaffolds. Hybridization with PLGA mesh provided the scaffolds with high mechanical property. Bovine articular chondrocytes were cultured in the hybrid scaffolds. The unique pore structures facilitated the homogeneous distribution of chondrocytes and cartilaginous matrices throughout the scaffolds. Subcutaneous implantation demonstrated cartilage-like tissue regeneration. The hybrid scaffolds should have a high potential for cartilage tissue engineering.

Urea-assisted natural seawater electrolysis is an emerging technology that is effective for grid-scale carbon-neutral hydrogen mass production yet *** scaling relations is an effective strategy to break through the bottleneck of natural seawater ***,by DFT calculation,we demonstrated that the interface boundaries between Ni2P and MoO2play an essential role in the selfrelaxation of the Ni-O interfacial bond,effectively modulating a coordination number of intermediates to control independently their adsorption-free energy,thus circumventing the adsorption-energy scaling *** this conceptual model,a well-defined 3D F-doped Ni2P-MoO2heterostructure microrod array was rationally designed via an interfacial engineering strategy toward urea-assisted natural seawater *** a result,the F-Ni2P-MoO2exhibits eminently active and durable bifunctional catalysts for both HER and OER in acid,alkaline,and alkaline sea water-based *** in-situ analysis,we found that a thin amorphous layer of NiOOH,which is evolved from the Ni2P during anodic reaction,is real catalytic active sites for the OER and UOR ***,such electrode-assembled urea-assisted natural seawater electrolyzer requires low voltages of 1.29 and 1.75 V to drive 10 and600 mA cm-2and demonstrates superior durability by operating continuously for 100 h at 100 mA cm-2,beyond commercial Pt/C || RuO2and most previous reports.

The classical Hardy theorem asserts that f and its Fourier transform f can not both be very rapidly decreasing. This theorem was generalized on Lie groups and also for the Fourier-Jacobi transform. However, on SU（1, 1） there are infinitely many “good” functions in the sense that f and its spherical Fourier transform y both have good decay. In this paper, we shall characterize such functions on SU（1, 1）.

For a suitable Ф ∈ L^1 （△）, we put Фt（x） = t^-1 △（x）^-1 △（x/t）Ф（x/t） for t 〉 0 and define the radial maximal operator MФ, as usual manner. We introduce a real Hardy space H^1 （△） as the set of all locally integrable functions f on R＋ whose radial maximal function MФ （f） belongs to L^1 （△）. In this paper we obtain a relation between H^1 （△） and H^1 （R）. Indeed, we characterize H^1 （△） in terms of weighted H^1 Hardy spaces on R via the Abel transform of f. As applications of H^1 （△） and its characterization, we shall consider （H^1 （△）,L^1 （△））-boundedness of some operators associated to the Poisson kernel for Jacobi analysis： the Poisson maximal operator Me, the Littlewood-Paley g-function and the Lusin area function S. They are bounded on L^p（△） for p 〉 1, but not true for p = 1. Instead, Mp, g and a modified Sa,r are bounded from H^1 （△） to L^1 （△）.

The addition of early transition metals(ETMs)into Fe-based amorphous alloys is practically found to be effective in reducing theα-Fe grain size in crystallization *** this paper,by using ab initio molecular dynamics simulations,the mechanism of the effect of two typical ETMs(Nb and W)on nano-crystallization is *** is found that the diffusion ability in amorphous alloy is mainly determined by the bonding energy of the atom rather than the size or weight of the *** alloying of B dramatically reduces the diffusion ability of the ETM atoms,which prevents the supply of Fe near the grain surface and consequently suppresses the growth ofα-Fe ***,the difference in grain refining effectiveness between Nb and W could be attributed to the larger bonding energy between Nb and B than that between W and B.
