The electrocardiogram （ECG） has broad applications in clinical diagnosis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease. Many researchers have contributed to its progressive development. To commemorate those pioneers, and to better study and promote the use of ECG, we reviewed and present here a systematic introduction about the history, hotspots, and trends of ECG. In the historical part, information including the invention, improvement, and extensive applications of ECG, such as in long QT syndrome （LQTS）, angina, and myocardial infarction （MI）, are chronologi- cally presented. New technologies and applications from the 1990s are also introduced. In the second part, we use the bibliometric analysis me- thod to analyze the hotspots in the field of ECG-related research. By using total citations and year-specific total citations as our main criteria, four key hotspots in ECG-related research were identified from 11 articles, including atrial fibrillation, LQTS, angina and MI, and heart rate variability. Recent studies in those four areas are also reported. In the final part, we discuss the future trends concerning ECG-related research. The authors believe that improvement of the ECG instrumentation, big data mining for ECG, and the accuracy of diagnosis and application will be areas of continuous concern.

Anumber of studies have investigated the effects of stress on mental health and cardiovascular diseases and the relationship between stress and various components of the immune system, and they found that chronic stress is associated with suppression of a variety of immune parameters. However, acute stress is often associated with transient increases in immune activationl A few studies have also examined the slgA response to occupational stress. Zeier et al2 measured salivary slgA in air traffic controllers before and immediately after radar working sessions lasting approximately 100 minutes. Counter to the author＇s expectation, slgA was significantly elevated after the stressful work-session. Ng et al3 found slgA correlated inversely with self-reported levels of stress among nurses in Singapore. In the United States and Australia, studies on occupational stress in the nursing profession using salivary IgA as a stress indicator have also been conducted. Both studies indicated that the nurses＇ stress was significantly associated with a decreased salivary IgA secretion rates.4.5 A study has indicated salivary lysozyme as a promising marker of the effects of stress on nonspecific immunity, demonstrating a negative relation between perceived stress, as indicated by a stress score obtained by means of a questionnaire, and actual stress in the form of an undergraduate examination and salivary lysozyme levels.6 Ng et al3 have not found a relationship between salivary lysozyme levels and self-reported levels of stress among nurses in Singapore.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is the presence of a battery of cardiovascular risk factors including abdominal obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and disturbed carbohydrate metabolism[1]. MetS affects 20% of adults in the Western world and 33% of adults in China[2] and has become a serious public health problem worldwide. However, the mechanism underlying the occurrence and progression of MetS is still largely unclear. It is now well established that excess fat deposition leads to abdominal obesity, which plays a vital role in the underlying mechanism. Adipose tissue can function as an endocrine organ that secretes various adipokines. The dysregulated expression of adipokines caused by excess adiposity and adipocyte dysfunction, has been linked to the pathogenesis of MetS[3]. Some serum adipokines such as leptin, adiponectin, interleukin 6 (IL-6), and tumour necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), might be potential markers for MetS development.

Background It is the first multicenter clinical study in China to investigate zanamivir use among Chinese adolescents and adults with influenza-like illness （ILl） since 2009, when inhaled zanamivir （RELENZA ） was marketed in China. Methods An uncontrolled open-label, multicentre study to evaluate the antiviral activity, and safety of inhaled zanamivir （as Rotadisk via Diskhaler device）; 10 mg administered twice daily for 5 days in subjects≥12 years old with ILl. Patients were enrolled within 48 hours of onset and followed for eight days. Patients were defined as being influenza-positive if the real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction （rRT-PCR） test had positive results. Results A total of 400 patients 〉12 years old were screened from 11 centers in seven provinces from March 2010 to January 2011. Three hundred and ninety-two patients who took at least one dose of zanamivir were entered into the safety analysis. The mean age was 33.8 years and 50% were male. cardiovascular diseases and diabetes were the most common comorbidities. All the reported adverse events, such as rash, nasal ache, muscle ache, nausea, diarrhea, headache, occurred in less than 1% of subjects. Mild sinus bradycadia or arrhythmia occurred in four subjects （1%）. Most of the adverse events were mild and did not require any change of treatment. No severe adverse events （SAE） or fatal cases were reported. Bronchospasm was found in a 38 years old woman whose symptoms disappeared after stopping zanamivir and without additional treatment. All the 61 influenza virus isolates （43 before enrollment, 18 during treatment） proved to be sensitive to zanamivir. Conclusions Zanamivir is well tolerated by Chinese adolescents and adults with ILls. There is no evidence for the emergence of drug-resistant isolates during treatment with zanamivir. （ChiCTR-TNRC-10000938）
