Objective: To evaluate the antihyperglycemic potential of Tamarix aphylla(T. aphylla)leaves in STZ–NIC induced diabetes in Wister Albino ***: Acute toxicity study was done to check the toxicity of T. aphylla(L. Karst)methanol extract. T. aphylla leaves extract was administered intraperitoneally(100 mg,250 mg and 400 mg/kg body weight per day) to diabetic Wister rats for 21 days. The various parameters were studied including fasting blood glucose levels, haemoglobin and glycosylated ***: The treatment groups with the extract at three dose levels expressively abridged the intensities of blood glucose and Glycosylated Haemoglobin. The earlier detected reduced level of plasma haemoglobin of the diabetic rats was raised to near normalcy with treatment of ***: The results of the current study confirm that the leaves extract of T. aphylla are nontoxic and have antidiabetic nature.

The effect of electrolytes on the micellar behavior of an amphiphilic drug, chlorpromazine (CPZ) hydrochloride, was studied using cloud point (CP) and dye solubilization techniques. In the presence of KBr, increase in pH led to decrease in the CP of 50 mmol·L-1 drug solution (prepared in 10 mmol·L-1 sodium phosphate (SP) buffer) because of deprotonation of drug molecules at high pH. The visible absorbance increased (due to dye solubilization) with the increase in pH from 6.5 to 6.9, which indicated micellar growth. At fixed pH (6.7), addition of inorganic salts (KF, KCl, and KBr) to drug solutions (50 mmol·L-1) caused an increase in the CP as well as in the visible absorbance, with effectiveness being in the order: F-ding and their effect toward micellar growth. Cations (co-ions) also led to an increase in the CP (and also the visible absorbance), with their effectiveness order being Li+ >Na+ >K+, which was explained by considering cognizance of their hydrated radii. Compared with anions, their effect was small. Increase in [CPZ] caused micellar growth and hence the CP as well as the visible absorbance increased. The overall behavior was discussed in terms of electrostatic interactions and micellar growth.

Introduction:Hemorrhage control is the essence of trauma *** teaching is 1 on the floor(ie,external bleeding)and 4 more(thoracic cavity,abdomen,retroperitoneum,and long bones).In this case report,we present a unique case with concealed bleeding into the soft tissue compartment leading to *** case triggered to consider the soft tissue compartment as the sixth potential bleeding site in trauma patients in hemorrhagic *** presentation:We present the case with concealed bleeding into the soft tissue compartment posing a challenge in *** presentation,he had a pulse rate of 117 beats/min,a blood pressure of 90/60mmHg,and a Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS)score of *** resuscitation,the patient's blood pressure dropped to 70/46 mmHg with a GCS of 7 of *** was then intubated and ***-enhanced computed tomography of the torso revealed a right scapular fracture with a large soft tissue hematoma along the right side of the neck and chest wall,extending up to the right lumbar ***:We suggest that the soft tissue compartment is the sixth potential site of internal bleeding in trauma patients,which should not be overlooked after having ruled out the other 5 sites.

Micelle Catalyzed Oxidation of D-Mannose by Cerium (IV) in Sulfuric Acid

Kinetics of D-mannose oxidation by cerium (IV) was studied in a sulfuric acid medium at 40 ℃ both in absence and presence of ionic micelles. In both cases, the rate of the reaction was first-order in D-mannose and in cerium (IV), which decreased with increasing [H2SO4]. This suggested that the redox reaction followed the same mechanism. The reaction proceeded through formation of an intermediate complex, which was proved by kinetic method. The complex underwent slow unimolecular decomposition to a free radical that reacted with cerium (IV) to afford the product. The catalytic role of cationic cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelles was best explained by the Menger-Portnoy model. The study of the effect of CTAB also indicated that a negatively charged species was reactive form of cerium (IV). From the kinetic data, micelle-cerium (IV) binding and rate constants in micellar medium were evaluated. The anionic micelle of sodium dodecyl sulfate plays no catalytic role. The oxidation has the rate expression: -d[Ce(IV)]= k1Kc1[D-mannose][Ce(IV)]dt Different activation parameters for micelle catalyzed and uncatalyzed paths were also calculated and discussed.

Colonization and development of the gut microbiome is a crucial consideration for optimizing the health and performance of livestock animals. This is mainly attributed to the fact that dietary and management practices greatly influence the gut microbiota, subsequently leading to changes in nutrient utilization and immune response. A favorable microbiome can be implanted through dietary or management in-terventions of livestock animals, especially during early life. In this review, we explore all the possible factors (for example gestation, colostrum, and milk feeding, drinking water, starter feed, inoculation from healthy animals, prebiotics/probiotics, weaning time, essential oil and transgenesis), which can influence rumen microbiome colonization and development. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages of potential strategies used to manipulate gut development and microbial colonization to improve the production and health of newborn calves at an early age when they are most susceptible to enteric disease. Moreover, we provide insights into possible interventions and their potential effects on rumen development and microbiota establishment. Prospects of latest techniques like transgenesis and host genetics have also been discussed regarding their potential role in modulation of rumen microbiome and subsequent effects on gut development and performance in neonatal ruminants.

An efficient procedure was developed for in vitro callus induction, proliferation and regeneration of carnation cultivar (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) using leaf, nodal and inter-nodal explants on Murashige and Skoog’s medium (MS) supplemented with exogenous plant growth regulators. For morphogenic callus induction and proliferation from various explants, MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l 2,4-D was highly efficient with 100% callus induction frequency from inter-nodal explants. Leaf explants showed quicker response than nodal and inter-modal explants, for callus initiation within 6 days of inoculation. Best grown callus was obtained from leaf explant. The leaf-derived callus was maintained up to several weeks, which indicated that 8-week incubation period was the most suitable for obtaining well proliferated, morphogenic callus. Temperature variation also affected the growth of in vitro induced morphogenic callus from various explants. Results have shown that 27°C proved to be the best temperature for morphogenic callus induction and proliferation from leaf and inter-nodal explants. Among the auxin-cytokinin combination, MS medium containing 1.0 mg/l N(6)-benzylaminopurin (BAP) and 2.0 mg/l NAA showed the highest efficiency of callus initiation and proliferation from leaf, nodal and inter-nodal explants. Light conditions proved better for callogenesis and proliferation from leaf, nodal and inter-nodal explants. Regeneration response from well grown morphogenic callus was prominent on MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l BAP alone and 1.0 mg/l NAA with 3.0 mg/l BAP.

This study deals with the enhanced solubilization of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （PAHs） such as phenanthrene （PHE） and fluorene （FLR） in a pure cationic gemini （G6） and three conventional surfactants [polyethylene glycol dodecyl ether （Brij35）, cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide （CRAB） and sodium lauryl sulfate （SDS）] as well as in their equimolar binary combinations （G6-Brij35, G6-CTAB and G6-SDS）. Their solubilization efficiency toward PHE and FLR has been quantified in terms of the molar solubilization ratio （MSR） and the micelle-water partition coefficient （Kin）. The ideality/nonideality of the mixed micelles is discussed with the help of Clint, Rubingh and Rosen＇s approaches. These theories determine the deviation of experimental critical micelle concen- tration （CMC） values from ideal critical micelle concentration, which was measured by evaluating the interaction parameters （/3m and/3）. Negative values ofβm were observed in all the equimolar binary systems, which show synergism in the mixed micelles. Whereas at air/liquid interface synergism was observed in the systems G6-CrAB and G6-Brij35; G6-SDS exhibited an antagonistic effect. The order of MSR and Km was G6-CTAB 〉 G6- Brij35 〉 G6-SDS for phenanthrene as well as for fluorene.

The effects of nonelectrolytes (ureas, amino acids, sugars) on the cloud point (CP) of nonionic surfactant Triton X-114 (TX-114) and tetra-n-butylammonium bromide (TBAB) system were studied. Ureas as well as thioureas increased the CP. Behaviors of amino acids depended upon their nature. Nonpolar and uncharged polar amino acids were less effective in changing the CP. However, tryptophan and phenylalanine increased the CP sharply. Acidic amino acid (aspartic acid) and sugars decreased the CP. The results were explained in terms of their effect on water structure. Amino acids got solubilized either in the micellar interior or in the bulk phase.

Improvement of plant performance under drought stress is crucial to sustaining agricultural *** current study investigated the ameliorative effects of foliar-applied kinetin,an adenine-type cytokinin(CK),on growth and gas exchange parameters,water relations and biochemical attributes of maize plants under drought ***-day-old maize plants were subjected to drought by maintaining soil moisture content at 25%field capacity for 8 days followed by foliar application of kinetin at 0,75,150 and 225 mg L^(−1)(CK0,CK75,CK150 and CK225,respectively)to the plants for two-times at the 9-day *** revealed that drought stress markedly reduced stem diameter,dry weight,chlorophyll content,gas exchange parameters and water balance but increased proline,malondialdehyde and soluble sugar contents,electrolyte leakage and senescence in maize *** of exogenous CK remarkably improved maize performance by modulating growth,gas exchange-and water relation-related parameters in a dose-dependent manner under drought ***225 increased chlorophyll content(by 61.54%),relative water content(by 49.14%),net photosynthesis rate(by 39.94%)and transpiration rate(by 121.36%)and also delayed leaf senescence but decreased internal CO_(2)concentration(by 7.38%),water saturation deficit(by 40.40%)and water uptake capacity(by 42.49%)in both well-watered and droughtstressed ***,CK application considerably decreased electrolyte leakage,proline,malondialdehyde and soluble sugar levels in drought-stressed maize plants,as also supported by heatmap and cluster *** together,exogenous CK at proper concentration(225 mg L^(−1))successfully improved maize performance under drought conditions,thereby suggesting CK application as a useful approach to alleviate drought-induced adverse effects in maize plants,and perhaps in other important crop plants.

Pattern of hepatitis C virus genotypes and subtypes circulating in war-stricken Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,Pakistan:Review of published literature

Infection due to hepatitis C virus(HCV) is a major cause of fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma in Pakistan. In the current review, pattern of HCV genotypes and subtypes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was ascertained in light of the available literature. After thorough analysis, genotype 3(58.27%) was determined to be the leading HCV genotype,followed by genotypes 2(12.39%), 1(9.54%) and 4(0.86%). The proportions of genotypes 5 and 6 were recorded as 0.09% and 0.22% respectively. Subtype wise, 3 a accounted for 48.67%, followed by subtype 2 a(10.91%), 3 b(9.43%), 1 a(5.84%), 1 b(3.66%), 2 b(1.45%) and genotype 4 with its undefined subtypes contributed a portion of0.86%. The cumulative share of subtypes 1 c, 2 c, 3 c, 5 a and 6 a was less than 1%. In11.51% cases, the subtype was untypeable while in 7.17% cases mixed subtypes were recorded. Gender wise, proportions of most HCV subtypes were marginally higher among males as compared to females. On the basis of studied groups, 3 a was pervasive among all groups except in intravenous drug users where 2 a was the major HCV ***, based on various geographical locations(provincial divisions), subtype 3 a revealed a ubiquitous distribution. Conclusively, HCV 3 a persists to be the principal subtype across the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The considerable number of untypeable subtypes in most studies urges for an improved genotyping system on the basis of local sequence data and practice of sequencing for determination of underlying subtype in untypeable cases. Further, studies on identification of subtypes transmission pattern are imperative for assessment of transmission origin and reinforcement of efficient control strategies. In addition, the current review emphasizes the need of attention toward HCV risk groups and ignored southern side of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province for better holistic understanding of HCV genotype distribution pattern in the province.
