OBJECTIVE: To show whether Danggui Sini plus Wuzhuyu Shengjiang Tang(DSWST) has any transient effect on erythrocyte deformability in normal ***: A total of 25 subjects [mean age(27.8± 1.8) years] was enrolled in this study. The study was designed as a cross-over trial in which the subjects took part for 2 d. On the first day, blood samples were collected at baseline and 1-2 h after administration of water, whereas, on the second day, instead of water, the subjects were administered DSWST after the baseline blood sampling. The blood samples collected at baseline and after the administration water or DSWST, were examined for erythrocyte ***: The elongation index increased significantly after 2 h(P = 0.009) compared to the baseline after DSWST intake. However, after water intake, there was no significant differenceobserved. When comparing the percent change of erythrocyte deformability between DSWST and water, we found that after 2 h of administration,DSWST improved erythrocyte deformability significantly compared to water(P < 0.001).CONCLUSION: DSWST has a transient effect on erythrocyte deformability in normal subjects.

AIM To identify the factors influencing cecal insertion time(CIT) and to evaluate the effect of obesity indices on CIT. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the data for participants who received both colonoscopy and abdominal computed tomography(CT) from February 2008 to May 2008 as part of a comprehensive health screening program. Age, gender, obesity indices [body mass index(BMI), waist-to-hip circumference ratio(WHR), waist circumference(WC), visceral adipose tissue(VAT)volume and subcutaneous adipose tissue(SAT) volume on abdominal CT], history of prior abdominal surgery, constipation, experience of the colonoscopist, quality of bowel preparation, diverticulosis and time required to reach the cecum were analyzed. CIT was categorized as longer than 10 min(prolonged CIT) and shorter than or equal to 10 min, and then the factors that required a CIT longer than 10 min were *** A total of 1678 participants were enrolled. The mean age was 50.42 ± 9.931 years and 60.3% were men. The mean BMI, WHR, WC, VAT volume and SAT volume were 23.92 ± 2.964 kg/m2, 0.90 ± 0.076, 86.95 ± 8.030 cm, 905.29 ± 475.220 cm3 and 1707.72 ± 576.550 cm3, respectively. The number of patients who underwent abdominal surgery was 268(16.0%). Colonoscopy was performed by an attending physician alone in 61.9% of cases and with the involvement of a fellow in 38.1% of cases. The median CIT was 7 min(range 2-56 min, IQR 5-10 min), and mean CIT was 8.58 ± 5.291 min. Being female, BMI, VAT volume and involvement of fellow were significantly associated with a prolonged CIT in univariable analysis. In multivariable analysis, being female(OR = 1.29, P = 0.047), lower BMI(< 23 kg/m2)(OR = 1.62, P = 0.004) or higher BMI(≥ 25 kg/m2)(OR = 1.80, P < 0.001), low VAT volume(< 500 cm3)(OR = 1.50, P = 0.013) and fellow involvement(OR = 1.73, P < 0.001) were significant predictors of prolonged CIT. Congenital absence of the splenic artery is a very rare *** the best of our knowledge, congenital absence of the splenic artery accompanied with absence of the splenic vein has not been *** report a case of the absence of the splenic artery and vein in a 61-year-old woman who presented with postprandial epigastric discomfort. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a dilated, pulsatile vessel in the fundus and duodenal stenosis. An abdominal computed tomography(CT)scan revealed absence of the splenic vein with a tortuously engorged gastroepiploic ***-dimensional CT demonstrated the tortuously dilated left gastric artery and the left gastroepiploic artery with non-visualization of the splenic *** administration of a proton pump inhibitor,abdominal symptoms resolved without any recurrence of symptoms during 6 mo of follow-up.

Effect of Isothermal Annealing on Nano Ti-Carbides Precipitation

Transmission electron microscopy was used to investigate the effect of isothermal holding temperature and time on the nano Ti-precipitates.A holding temperature was varied systematically from 400℃ to 1200℃.The isothermal holding was continued for 30s,300s and 900s,*** carbides of (Ti,Nb)C were precipitated significantly at 900℃.The size of carbides was approximately 10nm at 30s holding and increased to 20～30nm at 900s *** holding at 1000℃ showed the increased amount of carbides larger than *** 800℃,nano (Ti,Nb)C was not observed at 30s and it was examined at *** size of nano (Ti,Nb)C was smaller than that of 900℃.As the isothermal temperature decreased to 700 ℃,the nano (Ti,Nb)C was only seen at 900s holding and the size of carbides was smaller than *** (Ti,Nb)C was disappeared at isothermal holding below 600℃.The kinetics of nano (Ti,Nb)C precipitation were studied as a function of isothermal holding temperature and time,respectively,using the precipitate growth equations.

Electrochemical N_(2) reduction reaction(eNRR) over Cu-based catalysts suffers from an intrinsically low activity of Cu for activation of stable N_(2) molecules and the limited supply of N_(2) to the catalyst due to its low solubility in aqueous ***,we propose phosphorus-activated Cu electrocatalysts to generate electron-deficient Cu sites on the catalyst surface to promote the adsorption of N_(2) *** eNRR system is further modified using a gas diffusion electrode(GDE) coated with polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) to form an effective three-phase boundary of liquid water-gas N_(2)-solid catalyst to facilitate easy access of N_(2) to the catalytic *** a result,the new catalyst in the flow-type cell records a Faradaic efficiency of 13.15% and an NH_(3) production rate of 7.69 μg h^(-1) cm^(-2) at-0.2 V_(RHE),which represent 3.56 and 59.2 times increases from those obtained with a pristine Cu electrode in a typical electrolytic *** work represents a successful demonstration of dual modification strategies;catalyst modification and N_(2) supplying system engineering,and the results would provide a useful platform for further developments of electrocatalysts and reaction systems.

AIM:To determine long-term outcomes of surgical treatments for patients with constipation and features of colonic ***:Consecutive 42 patients who underwent surgery for chronic constipation within the last 13 years were prospectively *** identified a subgroup with colonic pseudo-obstruction(CPO) features,with dilatation of the colon proximal to the narrowed transitional zone,in contrast to typical slowtransit constipation(STC),without any dilated colonic *** outcomes of surgical treatments for chronic constipation with features of CPO were analyzed and compared with outcomes for ***:Of the 42 patients who underwent surgery for constipation,33 patients had CPO with dilatation of the colon proximal to the narrowed transitional *** were 16 males and 17 females with a mean age of 51.2 ± 16.1 *** had symptoms of chronic intestinal obstruction,including abdominal distension,pain,nausea,or vomiting,and the mean duration of symptoms was 67 mo(range:6-252 mo).Preoperative defecation frequency was 1.5 ± 0.6 times/wk(range:1-2 times/wk).Thirty-two patients underwent total colectomy,and one patient underwent diverting transverse *** was no surgery-related *** histologic examination showed hypoganglionosis or agangliosis in 23 patients and hypoganglionosis combined with visceral neuropathy or myopathy in 10 *** contrast,histology of STC group revealed intestinal neuronal dysplasia type B(n = 6) and visceral myopathy(n = 3).Early postoperative complications developed in six patients with CPO;wound infection(n = 3),paralytic ileus(n = 2),and intraabdominal abscess(n = 1).Defecation frequencies 3 mo after surgery improved to 4.2 ± 3.2 times/d(range:1-15 times/d).Long-term follow-up(median:39.7 mo) was available in 32 patients;all patients had improvements in constipation symptoms,but two patients needed intermittent medication for management of *** 32 patients had distinct

AIM： To evaluate the efficacy and complications of stereotactic body radiotherapy in localized paraaortic lymph node recurrence from colorectal cancer. METHODS： From 2003 to 2009, 7 patients with paraaortic lymph node recurrence （1-3 lesions） from colorectal cancer were treated with stereotactic body radiotherapy. Total gross tumor volumes ranged from 4 to 40 mL. The doses were escalated from 36 Gy/patient to 51 Gy/patient and were delivered in 3 fractions. RESULTS： One and 3 year overall survival rates were 100% and 71.4%, respectively, and median survival was 37 mo. Grade IV intestinal obstruction was reported in 1 of 7 patients. This patient received 48 Gy in 3 fractions with a maximum point dose to the intestine of 53 Gy and V45Gy = 3.6 mL. However, 6 patients received an intestinal maximum point dose of 〈 51 Gy and V45Gy of 〈 1 mL, and did not develop any severe complications. CONCLUSION： This pilot study suggests selected paraaortic lymph node recurrence （1-3 closed lesions） that failed to respond to chemotherapy can be potentially salvaged by stereotactic body radiotherapy.

In the peroid of confusion after the Korean War, there was an absolute shortage in the volume of food. The intake of energy and all other nutrients fell short of the recommended dietary intake. To solve the food shortage, there were many food assistant programs through the government channel. With the economic developments during past years, now, there are enough foods for everyone. Thus, food assistant program, which has been the only nutrition program in the government, is no longer needed except for low-income ***, there are not enough nutrition programs in the government. In 1994, about 30 public health center start nutrition programs with the help of Korean Dietetic *** this study, kinds of nutrition programs, age, sex and number of participants, the content of programs are studied. The effects of nutrition programs are partially ***, problems with current nutrition programs are discussed. Finally, future directions of nutrition programs in the public health centers are discussed
