Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry Analyses of Diamond and Moissanite in Ophiolite

The Cameca 1280-HR large geometry SIMS instrument is a highly versatile analytical tool which can support a broad range of geochemical *** using the Potsdam 1280 instrument focuses primarily on isotope ratio determinations in *** measurement protocols have already been established forδ18O determinations in zircon,and we are also working towards routine oxygen isotope determinations for quartz,calcite,mica,apatite and *** primary challenge in developing such measurement systems are the identification and characterization of suitable reference materials（RMs）,and this is made particularly challenging due to the matrix dependent ion yields of the SIMS ion *** we wish to report our progress towards establishing new analytical protocols for the determination ofδ13C in both diamond and *** the case of diamond,our facility possesses three natural RMs with which we are able to produce data with a typical analytical repeatability of;.15‰（1sd）.An inter-comparison of our three diamond RMs demonstrates an overall data quality of better than 0.5‰in terms of systematic offset between the various materials characterized using gas source mass spectrometry（Palot et al.,2012）.A single suchδ13C determination in diamond requires 80 s of data acquisition and involves a test portion mass of;00 pgof ***-house diamond reference materials forδ15N calibration allow us to measure this isotopic system to a total analytical uncertainty of±1.6‰（1sd）at nitrogen concentrations reaching down to 250μg/*** to the relatively low abundance of nitrogen in diamonds,such isotope ratio determinations require around 9 minutes of data *** respect toδ13C determinations in moissanite,we use a kimberlitic Si C as calibrant（Mathez et al.,1995）,on which we achieve a repeatability of;.2‰（1sd）on a;50 pg test portion *** data acquisition time for such measurements is 80 *** are currently in the process of developing a second

Effect of Some Physical Factors on Interrill Erosion of Soils in Gidan-Kwanu Area, Nigeria

Savanna regions in Nigeria face environmental degradation and barren land, negatively impacting food and agricultural productivity. Inter-rill erosion occurs due to raindrop impact and transport, particularly on hill slopes. A study was conducted using a sprinkler rainfall simulator and plot experiment to study soil erosion processes. Soil samples were collected from four farms in Gidan Kwanu, with varying moisture content. Sand content ranged from 46.0% to 76.20%, silt from 11.30% to 23.50%, and clay from 11.0% to 30.0%. Uncultivated and bare land had a higher average porosity (15.47% and 14.99%), while cultivated land had lower porosity (14.4%). The study found that most people in Gidan-Kwanu primarily practice farming, which is season-dependent and rain-fed. Soil type and texture significantly contribute to inter-rill erosion, with cultivated and uncultivated soil being more resistant to erosion than bare land soil. The study concluded that farming practices in Gidan-Kwanu are primarily season-dependent and rain-fed. Numerical Analysis on the Effect of n-Si on Cu(In, Ga)Se₂ Based Thin-Films for High-Performance Solar Cells by 1D-SCAPS

We report the performances of a chalcopyrite Cu(In, Ga)Se2 CIGS-based thin-film solar cell with a newly employed high conductive n-Si layer. The data analysis was performed with the help of the 1D-Solar Cell Capacitance Simulator (1D-SCAPS) software program. The new device structure is based on the CIGS layer as the absorber layer, n-Si as the high conductive layer, i-In2S3, and i-ZnO as the buffer and window layers, respectively. The optimum CIGS bandgap was determined first and used to simulate and analyze the cell performance throughout the experiment. This analysis revealed that the absorber layer’s optimum bandgap value has to be 1.4 eV to achieve maximum efficiency of 22.57%. Subsequently, output solar cell parameters were analyzed as a function of CIGS layer thickness, defect density, and the operating temperature with an optimized n-Si layer. The newly modeled device has a p-CIGS/n-Si/In2S3/Al-ZnO structure. The main objective was to improve the overall cell performance while optimizing the thickness of absorber layers, defect density, bandgap, and operating temperature with the newly employed optimized n-Si layer. The increase of absorber layer thickness from 0.2 - 2 µm showed an upward trend in the cell’s performance, while the increase of defect density and operating temperature showed a downward trend in solar cell performance. This study illustrates that the proposed cell structure shows higher cell performances and can be fabricated on the lab-scale and industrial levels.

Cannabis,commonly known as marijuana,is a drug extracted from the Cannabis plant known for its psychotropic and medicinal *** has been used for healing purposes during ancient times,although its psychoactive components led to its restricted use in ***,cannabis is found to have modulatory effects on the endocannabinoid system exhibiting its medicinal role in the gastrointestinal(GI)*** animal and human studies demonstrate the influential effects of cannabis on a variety of GI diseases including inflammatory bowel disease,motility disorders and GI *** also has a regulatory role in GI symptoms including nausea and vomiting,anorexia,weight gain,abdominal pain,among ***,both its acute and chronic use can lead to undesirable side effects such as dependency and addiction,cognitive impairment and cannabinoid hyperemesis *** will discuss the role of cannabis in the GI system as well as dosing strategies to help guide gastroenterologists to assess its efficacy and provide patient counseling before prescription of medical marijuana.

Practical considerations for colorectal cancer screening in older adults

Recent guidelines recommend that colorectal cancer(CRC)screening after age 75 be considered on an individualized basis,and discourage screening for people over 85 due to competing causes of *** the heterogeneity in the health of older individuals,and lack of data within current guidelines for personalized CRC screening approaches,there remains a need for a clearer framework to inform clinical decision-making.A revision of the current approach to CRC screening in older adults is even more compelling given the improvements in CRC treatment,post-treatment survival,and increasing life expectancy in the *** this review,we aim to examine the personalization of CRC screening cessation based on specific factors influencing life and health expectancy such as comorbidity,frailty,and cognitive *** will also review screening modalities and endoscopic technique for minimizing risk,the risks of screening unique to older adults,and CRC treatment outcomes in older patients,in order to provide important information to aid CRC screening decisions for this age *** review article offers a unique approach to this topic from both the gastroenterologist and geriatrician perspective by reviewing the use of specific clinical assessment tools,and addressing technical aspects of screening colonoscopy and periprocedural management to mitigate screening-related complications.

Coupled heat-fluid-solid numerical study on heat extraction potential of hot dry rocks based on discrete fracture network model

Fracture networks within hot dry rock(HDR)geothermal reservoirs are complex,and heat extraction via water injection is thus a coupled process of heat-fluid-solid *** this paper,utilizing the theory of normally distributed random functions,we develop a corresponding pre-processing subprogram to establish a discrete network model of complex fracture distribution in HDR reservoirs;then construct a heat-fluid-solid finite element model for heat extraction via water injection and compare the numerical solution with the analytical solution of the one-dimensional non-isothermal consolidation problem for *** numerical simulation results show that the main factors affecting the heat extraction efficiency of HDR reservoirs include fracture width,fracture density,fracture permeability,and matrix *** a HDR reservoir is injected with water for heat extraction,there is a certain threshold value of these influential parameters,beyond which the outlet temperature drops significantly,resulting in an obvious thermal *** injecting water for heat extraction,the values of these parameters should be controlled and kept at a reasonable level,otherwise,the HDR reservoir may enter a thermal breakthrough stage in advance,which is not conducive for long-period heat *** by the random distribution of complex fractures,the leading edge of the cold front may present an irregular *** the process of heat extraction,the stress gradually changes from a compressional state to a tensile state,which induces further damage to the HDR reservoir.
