Data visualization and interactive data exploration are important aspects of illustrating complex concepts and results from analyses of omics data.A suitable visualization has to be intuitive and ***-based dashboards have become popular tools for the arrangement,consolidation,and display of such ***,the combination of automated data processing pipelines handling omics data and dynamically generated,interactive dashboards is poorly ***,we present i2dash,an R package intended to encapsulate functionality for the programmatic creation of customized *** supports interactive and responsive(linked)visualizations across a set of predefined graphical layouts.i2dash addresses the needs of data analysts/software developers for a tool that is compatible and attachable to any R-based analysis pipeline,thereby fostering the separation of data visualization on one hand and data analysis tasks on the other *** addition,the generic design of i2dash enables the development of modular extensions for specific *** a proof of principle,we provide an extension of i2dash optimized for single-cell RNA sequencing analysis,supporting the creation of dashboards for the visualization needs of such *** with these features,i2dash is suitable for extensive use in large-scale sequencing/bioinformatics *** this line,we provide i2dash as a containerized solution,enabling a straightforward large-scale deployment and sharing of dashboards using cloud services.i2dash is freely available via the R package archive CRAN(https://***/package=i2dash).

Levels of L-carnitine in human seminal plasma are associated with sperm fatty acid composition

The fatty acid composition of spermatozoa has been shown to be important for their function,and L-carnitine is crucial for fatty acid *** levels in the seminal plasma positively correlate with semen quality,whereas high body mass index(BMI)is associated with both reduced semen quality and altered sperm fatty acid ***,we examined the associations between free seminal L-carnitine levels and sperm fatty acid composition as well as *** samples were collected and analyzed from 128 men with unknown fertility status and with BMI ranging from 19 kg m^(−2) to 63 kg m^(−2).Sperm fatty acid composition was assessed by gas chromatography,while free seminal L-carnitine analysis was performed using high-performance liquid *** linear regression analysis showed a positive correlation of free seminal L-carnitine levels with the amount of sperm palmitic acid(β=0.21;P=0.014),docosahexaenoic acid(DHA;β=0.23;P=0.007),and total n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(β=0.23;P=0.008)and a negative correlation of free seminal L-carnitine levels with lignoceric acid(β=−0.29;P=0.001)and total n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids(β=−0.24;P=0.012)when adjusted for *** was no relationship between free seminal L-carnitine levels and *** free seminal L-carnitine levels are associated with semen quality,the absence of a correlation with BMI suggests that reduced semen quality in obese men is independent of seminal L-carnitine.

Impact of dietary fat levels and fatty acid composition on milk fat synthesis in sows at peak lactation

Background Dietary fat is important for energy provision and immune function of lactating sows and their ***,knowledge on the impact of fat on mammary transcription of lipogenic genes,de novo fat synthesis,and milk fatty acid(FA)output is sparse in *** study aimed to evaluate impacts of dietary fat levels and FA composition on these traits in *** second-parity sows(Danish Landrace×Yorkshire)were assigned to 1 of 5 dietary treatments from d 108 of gestation until weaning(d 28 of lactation):low-fat control diet(3%added animal fat);or 1 of 4 high-fat diets with 8%added fat:coconut oil(CO),fish oil(FO),sunflower oil(SO),or 4%octanoic acid plus 4%FO(OFO).Three approaches were taken to estimate de novo milk fat synthesis from glucose and body *** Daily intake of FA was lowest in low-fat sows within fat levels(P<0.01)and in OFO and FO sows within highfat diets(P<0.01).Daily milk outputs of fat,FA,energy,and FA-derived carbon reflected to a large extent the intake of *** average,estimates for de novo fat synthesis were 82 or 194 g/d from glucose according to method 1 or 2 and 255 g de novo+mobilized FA/d according to method *** low-fat diet increased mammary FAS expression(P<0.05)and de novo fat synthesis(method 1;P=0.13)within fat *** OFO diet increased de novo fat synthesis(method 1;P<0.05)and numerically upregulated mammary FAS expression compared to the other high-fat *** diets,a daily intake of 440 g digestible FA minimized milk fat originating from glucose and mobilized body *** Sows fed diets with low-fat or octanoic acid,through upregulating FAS expression,increased mammary de novo fat synthesis whereas the milk FA output remained low in sows fed the low-fat diet or high-fat OFO or FO diets,indicating that dietary FA intake,dietary fat level,and body fat mobilization in concert determine de novo fat synthesis,amount and profiles of FA in milk.

Impacts of prenatal nutrition on animal production and performance： a focus on growth and metabolic and endocrine function in sheep

The concept of foetal programming（FP） originated from human epidemiological studies, where foetal life nutrition was linked to health and disease status later in life. Since the proposal of this phenomenon, it has been evaluated in various animal models to gain further insights into the mechanisms underlying the foetal origins of health and disease in humans. In FP research, the sheep has been quite extensively used as a model for humans. In this paper we will review findings mainly from our Copenhagen sheep model, on the implications of late gestation malnutrition for growth, development, and metabolic and endocrine functions later in life, and discuss how these implications may depend on the diet fed to the animal in early postnatal life. Our results have indicated that negative implications of foetal malnutrition, both as a result of overnutrition and, particularly, late gestation undernutrition, can impair a wide range of endocrine functions regulating growth and presumably also reproductive traits. These implications are not readily observable early in postnatal life, but are increasingly manifested as the animal approaches adulthood. No intervention or cure is known that can reverse this programming in postnatal life. Our findings suggest that close to normal growth and slaughter results can be obtained at least until puberty in animals which have undergone adverse programming in foetal life, but manifestation of programming effects becomes increasingly evident in adult *** to the risk of transfer of the adverse programming effects to future generations, it is therefore recommended that animals that are suspected to have undergone adverse FP are not used for reproduction. Unfortunately, no reliable biomarkers have as yet been identified that allow accurate identification of adversely programmed offspring at birth,except for very low or high birth weights, and, in pigs, characteristic changes in head shape（dolphin head）. Success of three soil restoration techniques on seedling survival and growth of three plant species in the Sahel of Burkina Faso(West Africa)

In the Sahel of Africa, where 90 % of the population depends on natural resources for their liveli- hood, a large part of the soils are structurally unstable, prone to crusting and hard setting, and have low water holding capacity, which hamper vegetation establishment. The effect of soil restoration techniques on survival and growth of seedlings of Acacia nilotica, Acacia tortilis and Jatropha curcas was tested in completely barren, degraded land in a Sahelian ecosystem in Burkina Faso. A total of 522 seedlings （174 plants of each plant species） were planted in a randomized complete block design with three replicates combining three soil preparation techniques： half-moon, zai＂ and standard plantation. Survival and growth rates evaluated over 20 months were significantly higher using the half-moon technique compared with the other two techniques. Survival rates of plant species planted using half-moon technique were 62.5, 28.57 and 10.71% for A. nilotica, A. tortilis and J. curcas respec- tively, but in za＇i and standard planting, seedling survival was zero. The low survival rate of J. curcas using the half-moon technique may indicate that J. curcas is unsuit- able for barren and degraded land, whereas A. nilotica and A. tortilis appear to be promising tree species for rehabil- itation of degraded land.
