Replacing fossil fuels with fuel cells is a feasible way to reduce global energy shortages and environmental pollution.However,the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)at the cathode has sluggish kinetics,which limits the development of fuel cells.It is significant to develop catalysts with high catalytic activity of ORR.The single-atom catalysts(SACs)of Pt supported on heteroatom-doped graphene are potential candidates for ORR.Here we studied the SACs of Pt with different heteroatoms doping and screened out Pt-C_(4) and Pt-C_(3)O_(1) structures with only 0.13 V overpotential for ORR.Meanwhile,it is found that B atoms doping could weaken the adsorption capacity of Pt,while N or O atoms doping could enhance it.This regularity was verified on Fe SACs.Through the electronic interaction analysis between Pt and adsorbate,we explained the mechanism of this regularity and further proposed a new descriptor named corrected d-band center(ε_(d-corr))to describe it.This descriptor is an appropriate reflection of the number of free electrons of the SACs,which could evaluate its adsorption capacity.Our work provides a purposeful regulatory strategy for the design of ORR catalysts.

Elaborated design of catalytic systems with a specifically tailored site distance to match the intermediates could substantially improve reaction kinetics and boost catalytic activity under unfavorable reaction conditions.Considering the lower energy barriers of water splitting upon the synergy of dual sites,constructing synergistic Pt-M(M:transition metal)dual sites is an effective way to boost Pt with highly catalytic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)performance.An unconventional“Ni(OH)_(2)-coated high-index Pt facets”was constructed to obtain long-range Pt-Ni dual sites,in which Ni composition as a water dissociation synergistic site can protect Pt from electrolyte corrosion and ensure efficient proton donation to Pt sites.The obtained long-range Pt-Ni dual sites present 3.84 mA·cm^(-1) of current density,which is 7.5 times specific activity higher than that of commercial Pt/C towards alkaline HER.The enhanced HER performance is attributed to synergistic catalysis on Pt-Ni dual sites accompanied by unconventional electron coupling.This work illustrates a new strategy to construct the long-range dual sites by unconventional strategy for fundamental electrocatalytic study of alkaline HER.

Treatment of Candida albicans liver abscess complicated with COVID-19 after liver metastasis ablation:A case report

BACKGROUND Liver interventional surgery is a relatively safe and minimally invasive surgery.However,for patients who have undergone Whipple surgery,the probability of developing a liver abscess after liver interventional surgery is very high.Fungal liver abscess has a high mortality rate,especially when complicated with malignant tumors,diabetes,coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and other complications.Fungal liver abscess is rare,and there are no guidelines or expert consensus on the course of antifungal therapy.CASE SUMMARY A 54-year-old woman with pancreatic head cancer received albumin-bound paclitaxel in combination with gemcitabine chemotherapy after laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy.Liver metastasis was found 1 mo after completion of 8 cycles of chemotherapy,followed by ablation of the liver metastasis.After half a month of liver metastasis ablation,the patient experienced fever after chemotherapy and was diagnosed with liver abscess complicated with COVID-19 by contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography and real-time polymerase chain reaction detection.The results of pus culture showed Candida albicans,which was sensitive to fluconazole.The patient underwent percutaneous catheter drainage,antifungal therapy with fluconazole,and antiviral therapy with azvudine.During antifungal therapy,the patient showed a significant increase in liver enzyme levels and was discharged after liver protection therapy.Oral fluconazole was continued for 1 wk outside the hospital,and fluconazole was used for a total of 5 wk.The patient recovered well and received 4 cycles of fluorouracil,leucovorin,oxaliplatin,and irinotecan after 2 mo of antifungal therapy.CONCLUSION Effective treatment of Candida albicans liver abscess requires early detection,percutaneous catheter drainage,and 5 wk of antifungal therapy.Meanwhile,complications such as COVID-19 should be actively managed and nutritional support should be provided.

Small-diameter vascular grafts fabricated from synthetic biodegradable polymers exhibit beneficial mechanical properties but often face poor regenerative potential.Different tissue engineering approaches have been employed to improve tissue regeneration in vascular grafts,but there remains a requirement for a new generation of synthetic grafts that can orchestrate the host response to achieve robust vascular regeneration.Vascular stem/progenitor cells(SPCs)are mostly found in quiescent niches but can be activated in response to injury and participate in endothelium and smooth muscle regeneration during neo-artery formation.Here,we developed a functional vascular graft by surface immobilization of stem cell antigen-1(Sca-1)antibody on an electrospun poly(ε-caprolactone)graft(PCL-Sca-1 Ab).PCL-Sca-1 Ab promoted capture and retainment of Sca-1+SPCs in vitro.In rat abdominal aorta replacement models,PCL-Sca-1 Ab stimulated in vivo recruitment of Sca-1+SPCs,and drove SPCs differentiation towards vascular cell lineages.The origin of infiltrated Sca-1+SPCs was further investigated using a bone marrow transplantation mouse model,which revealed that Sca-1+SPCs originating from the resident tissues and bone marrow contributed to rapid vascular regeneration of vascular grafts.Our data indicated that PCL-Sca-1 Ab vascular grafts may serve as a useful strategy to develop next generation cell-free vascular grafts.

Boswellic acids is a general term for a series of pentacyclic triterpenoid compounds that are isolated from the oleogin resin of the Boswellia genus and serve as the main active ingredient.It exhibits a wide range of biological activities,such as anti-inflammatory,anti-cancer,antibacterial,antiviral,hepatoprotective,neuroprotective,anti-diabetic,and anti-thrombotic properties.As a result,it has gained significant recognition among practitioners of traditional Chinese and Indian medicine.These biological effects may be associated with multiple molecular targets and signal transduction pathways.However,the poor pharmacokinetic properties of the substance lead to lower bioavailability,which affects its effectiveness.To address this issue,scientists have proposed a number of strategies,such as solid dispersions,phytosome®technologies,and novel drug delivery systems.This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview for boswellic acids on the phytochemistry,molecular mechanisms,potential therapeutic applications,and strategies to improve bioavailability.
