BACKGROUND Kidney transplant recipients(KTR)are at risk of severe coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)disease and mortality after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)*** predicted that hospitalization for COVID-19 and subsequent admission to the intensive care unit(ICU)would yield worse outcomes in *** was stratified by ICU *** of interest included risk factors for ICU admission and mortality,length of stay(lOS),respiratory symptoms at admission,all-cause graft failure at the last follow-up,and death related to *** 96 KTRs were hospitalized for SARS-COV-2 infection.21(22%)required ICU *** ICU group had longer hospital lOS(21.8 vs 8.6 days,Pere more likely to experience graft failure(81%vs 31%,Pe admitted to the ICU,76%had death at last-follow up,and 71%had death related to *** factors for ICU admission included male sex(aHR:3.11,95%CI:1.04-9.34;P=0.04).Risk factors for all-cause mortality and COVID-19-related mortality included ICU admission and advanced age at SARS-CoV-2 *** was highest within a month of COVID-19 diagnosis,with the ICU group having increased risk of all-cause(aHR:11.2,95%CI:5.11-24.5;Pelated mortality(aHR:27.2,95%CI:8.69-84.9;PlUSION ICU admission conferred an increased risk of mortality,graft failure,and longer ***-fifth of those hospit-alized died of COVID-19,reflecting the impact of COVID-19-related morbidity and mortality among KTRs.

Investigating Stability Properties for Transition Metal Carbonate Precursors Using Universal Cluster expansion Technique(UNCle)as Cathodes for li-Ion Batteries

The universal cluster expansion technique was used in this study to determine the binary phase diagrams for the transition metal carbonate precursors MCO3(M:Mn,Ni,Co).The use of mixed cathode materials in lithium-ion batteries such as NMC(Ni,Mn and Co)formulations,is a strategic approach to optimize performance,enhance safety and address cost and environmental considerations in the rapidly evolving field of energy *** study focuses on the cost issue related to lithium ion batteries by investigating the manganese rich NMC since manganese is more abundant and *** doped MnCO3 with nickel and doped MnCO3 with cobalt then ran cluster expansion calculations to generate binary *** binary phase diagrams generated indicated that doping MnCO3 with nickel favours the Mn-rich side,while doping MnCO3 with cobalt favours 50%Mn-rich and 50%*** further extracted the most stable structures from both binary diagrams and determined their electronic,mechanical and vibrational stabilities using DFT(density functional theory)calculations within the lDA(local gradient approximation)with Hubbard parameter(U).The electronic properties revealed that both materials are semiconductors due to their narrow energy band gap obtained while the mechanical properties showed that structures are mechanically stable since their necessary conditions for trigonal and triclinic systems were satisfied.

In-situ synchrotron high energy X-ray diffraction study on the internal strain evolution of D019-α2 phase during high-temperature compression and subsequent annealing in a TiAl alloy

The residual stress in the D019-α2 phase is known to be significantly higher than that in the l10-γphase in TiAl alloys after deformation due to the poor plasticity and strong mechanical anisotropy of theα2 ***,the internal stress accumulation and relaxation in theα2 phase during high-temperature deformation and annealing are scarcely *** this study,for the first time,the internal strain evolution and load partitioning between theα2 andγphases at high temperatures are characterized by in-situ synchrotron high energy X-ray diffraction(HeXRD)*** plastic deformation is at least initiated at a stress of roughly 200 MPa in theγphase and 775 MPa in theα2 *** intergranular strains in theα2 phase are generated by the onset of dislocation glide in theγphase,and accentuated with the accumulated dislocations and the ensuing twinning *** unloading,great intergranular strains are preserved in theα2 phase constrained by the heavily plastically deformedγ*** subsequent heating from 400 to 1000℃,the internal strains in theα2 phase are almost fully relaxed by substantial dislocation annihilation and rearrangement in theγ*** annealing at 800℃,the internal strain relaxation is rapid in the initial 10 min,whereas considerably retarded *** extent of relaxation after holding at 800℃for 1 h is equivalent to that of heating in an effective temperature range of 680-880℃for 10 *** in-situ lattice strain measurements with various thermal relaxation schemes provide guidance for the stress relief annealing of TiAl components.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease(GeRD)is defined by recurrent and troublesome heartburn and effortless regurgitation or by the specific complications of this condition—that is,esophagitis,esophageal peptic strictures,and Barrett esophagus.1Although GeRD is caused by gastric contents'reaching the esophagus,gastric juices can also reach other anatomical locations(pharynx,mouth,larynx,and airways),leading to(or worsening)extra-esophageal conditions(notably asthma)or symptoms(e.g.,wheezing,cough).1 Together with obesity,GeRD is the main risk factor for gastroesophageal malignancies.

Background:Skeletal muscle energetics decline with age,and physical activity(PA)has been shown to offset these declines in older ***,many studies reporting these effects were based on self-reported PA or structured exercise ***,we examined the associations of accelerometry-measured and self-reported PA and sedentary behavior(SB)with skeletal muscle energetics and explored the extent to which PA and sedentary behavior would attenuate the associations of age with muscle ***:As part of the Study of Muscle,Mobility and Aging,enrolled older adults(n=879),810(age=76.4±5.0 years old,mean±SD;58%women)had maximal muscle oxidative capacity measured ex vivo via high-resolution re spirometry of permeabilized myofibers(maximal oxidative phosphorylation(maxOXPHOS))and in vivo by ^(31)phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy(maximal adenosine triphosphate(ATP_(max))).Accelerometry-measured sedentary behavior,light activity,and moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA)were assessed using a wrist-worn ActiGraph GT9X over 7 ***-reported sedentary behavior,MVPA,and all PA were assessed with the Community Healthy Activities Model Program for Seniors(CHAMPS)*** regression models with progressive covariate adjustments evaluated the associations of sedentary behavior and PA with muscle energetics,as well as the attenuation of the age/muscle energetics association by MVP A and sedentary *** a sensitivity analysis,we also examined activPAl-measured daily step count and time spent in sedentary behavior and their associations with muscle ***:every 30 min/day more of ActiGraph-measured MVPA was associated with 0.65 pmol/(s×mg)higher maxOXPHOS and 0.012 mM/s higher ATP_(max)after adjusting for age,site/technician,and sex(plight activity was not associated with maxOXPHOS or ATP_(max).Meanwhile,every 30 min/day spent in ActiGraph-measured sedentary behavior was associated with 0.39 pmol/s×mg lower maxOXPHOS and0.

epidemiological, Clinical, and evolutionary Profile of Children Admitted to the Pediatric emergency Department of the Maroua Regional Hospital, Cameroon

Introduction: Pediatric emergencies in developing countries are associated with high morbidity and mortality. The Maroua Regional Hospital (MRH) is one of the referral centers for pediatric emergencies in the Far north region of Cameroon. Pediatric emergencies are frequent in Maroua and are associated with significant mortality. The aim of our study is to determine the epidemiological, clinical, and evolutionary profile of children admitted to the pediatric emergency department of the HRM. Methods: We conducted an observational, descriptive, and retrospective study over a period from April 10, 2023 to April 10, 2024, focusing on the records of patients admitted to the pediatric emergency department of the MRH. The variables studied included epidemiological, clinical, and evolutionary characteristics. Data analysis was performed using CSPro version 8.01 and SPSS version 27.0. Results: We included 1027 patients;the sex ratio was 1.2 infants under 2 years represented 54.33%. The main reasons for consultation were fever (62.22%) and seizures (30.18%). The most frequently prescribed additional test was the Complete Blood Count (CBC), performed in 97.37% of cases. The most common pathologies were severe malaria (45.18%), broncho-pulmonary infections (15.48%), and bacterial meningitis (12.26%). At admission, 32.9% were transfused. There were 68 deaths, representing 6.67%, and 86% of the deaths occurred within 24 hours of admission. The leading cause of death was severe malaria, with 28 (41.17%) cases. Conclusion: Febrile illnesses were the main reason for consultation, and mortality was linked to severe malaria. Therefore, in addition to the other preventive methods already used against malaria, it is recommended to consider the use of the malaria vaccine.
