Background: In-hospital mortality is high in low-income countries. Currently, little is known in Cameroon concerning the characteristics of patients who die in cardiology units. Our objectives were to determine the in-hospital mortality rate;describe the general characteristics of death patients, and factors associated with mortality. Material and Methods: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study by reviewing the medical records of all patients admitted to the cardiology unit of the Yaoundé Central Hospital (CHY) between January 2018 andJanuary 2019. The files of all death patients were studied for socio-demographical, clinical and therapeutical variables. Bivariate analysis was conducted to order to check the association between independents variables and time of death. A p-value 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A total number of 860 patients were admitted in the cardiology unit of CHY during the study period. Amongst the 860 patients admitted 78 had a fatal outcome, hence, an in-hospital mortality rate of 9.06%. The male gender was predominant amongst the deceased patients (n = 45). The mean age at death was 69 ± 15.19 years. The median time before death was 6 days and they ranged between 1 to 25 days. Hypertension was the most frequent comorbidity (65.4%). Objective: In Japan, red blood cell (RBC) solution is usually transported by car from a medical institution to the patient’s house for home transfusion. However, there are no regulations for transporting blood by car in the medical setting. Therefore, we assessed and compared the methods (containers) used for transporting the RBC solution by car. Materials and Methods: Irradiated RBC solution samples (280 mL) supplied by the Japan Red Cross Society were each divided into two bags. The quality of blood transported by car (1 - 2 hours) in an active transport refrigerator (ATR) (control group) was compared with that transported in a cooler, or styrofoam box (study group). We tested the hemolytic effects of transportation by car, storage, and filtration through a transfusion set on the lactate dehydrogenase (LD) levels in the RBC solutions. Results: Post-filtered LD levels were significantly higher in the RBC solutions transported in a cooler-box with inadequate temperature control when compared to those transported in an ATR with optimal temperature control. However, under conditions of optimal temperature control, the post-filtered LD levels were comparable in the control and study (both cooler and styrofoam boxes) group RBC solutions. Conclusion: Temperature management is critical for the maintenance of the quality of the RBC solution transported by car.

The upper part of the Fujia deposit was mined out by open-pit, and the lower part is being mined underground. The level pillar between open-pit and underground mine had a thickness of 24 m, a length of 300 m and a maximum width of 35 in. As the level pillar contained about 5.2 million ton ore of high nickel grade, it was necessary to recover the level pillar. Because of special need of safety, underhand heading cut-and-fill stoping method was used. For the first two layers of heading, the cemented fill materials were a mix of water and high-aluminum-content cement with silicate gelling agent; and for other heading layers, total tailings was added into the fill mix in order to reduce the cement consumption. Finally, the level pillar was recovered successfully.

＜正＞ In the present study,intracerebroventricularly injected CDP-choline （0.5, 1, 2 micromoles） induced dose and time dependent antinociceptive effects in thermal and mechanical paw withdrawal tests and acetic acid writhing tests in rats. E-quimolar dose of CDP- choline （imicromole） and choline （imicromole） caused similar antinociceptive effects while cytidine （Imicromole） produced small,transient but statically significant antinociceptive effect. Mecamylamine, MLA and HC - 3 pretreatments completely antagonized CDP - choline induced antinocicep-tion in acute thermal and mechanical tests while HC - 3. MLA. mecamylamine and atropine pretreatments partially blocked the antinociceptive effect of CDP -choline in the acetic acid writhing test. CDPcholine did not impair motor performance of rats evaluated by rota - rod test. These results indicate that centrally administered CDP - choline induced dose and time dependent antinociception in rats by activating mainly central cholinergic nicotinic receptors through the activation of presynaptic cholinergic mechanisms.

Objective:To investigate preventive effects of taxifolin on ischemia-reperfusion induced oxidative ovarian damage in ***:A total of 18 female Wistar albino rats were randomly and equally divided into three groups:the sham group,the ovarian ischemia reperfusion group,and the 50 mg/kg taxifolin+ovarian ischemia reperfusion *** ovarian ischemia reperfusion and taxifolin+ovarian ischemia reperfusion groups were exposed to ischemia for 2 h and then followed by two-hour reperfusion *** and histopathologic examinations were performed on the extracted ***:Levels of malondialdehyde and cyclooxygenase-2 were increased,while reduced-glutathione and cyclooxygenase-1 were decreased in the ovarian ischemia reperfusion ***,these values were reversed in the taxifolin+ovarian ischemia reperfusion ***,the number of primordial and developing follicules decreased in the ovarian ischemia reperfusion group,while they were within normal range in the taxifolin+ovarian ischemia reperfusion ***:Ischemia followed by reperfusion leads to oxidative stress-related ovarian injury,and taxifolin may be useful for protecting ovarian tissue from such injury.

Interventional Cardiology Management of a Cardiogenic Shock Induced by Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy at the Hospital Center of Montlucon: A Case Report

Background: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is frequently considered as a benign disorder. We present an atypical form with cardiogenic shock that was managed by interventional cardiology measures. Case presentation: A 58 years old female patient with a past history of hypertension, obesity and multiple sclerosis was admitted at the Hospital Center of Montlucon for septic shock of urinary origin. During hospitalization in intensive care unit, the patient presented a markedly increasing of troponin levels with a diffused ST-segment elevation. Transthoracic Echocardiography showed an altered left ventricular ejection fraction at 35% with hypokinesia of apex and lateral ventricular segments in conjunction with compensatory hyperkinesis of the base;these findings were strongly suggestive of a diagnosis of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. Despite concomitant anemia, renal failure and sepsis, all adequately treated with complete remission, the patient developed frequent episodes of ventricular tachycardia that prompted an emergency coronarography. During this procedure, the patient presented a cardiogenic shock and bradyasystole that were successfully managed by intra-aortic balloon pumping and temporary transvenous pacing. Finally, there were no coronary lesions and ventriculography confirmed a Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. Carotid endarterectomy is an established treatment in the prevention of transient ischemic attack or stroke. Cerebral embolism, thrombosis or hypo-perfusion will lead to a major risk of perioperative thrombotic events. In this case, we report an interesting anesthesia approach for aortic arch anatomic variant management and monitoring.
