Apolipoprotein A-IMilano(ApoA-IM)has been shown to significantly reduce coronary atherosclerotic ***,the preparation of cost-effective pharmaceutical formulations of ApoA-IM is limited by the high cost and difficulty of purifying the protein and producing the highly effective dimeric *** aim of this study was to create an expression cassette that specifically drives the expression of dimeric ApoA-IM in the protein bodies of rice *** ApoA-IM protein under control of the 13 kDa prolamin promoter is expressed exclusively in its dimeric form within the seeds,and immunocytochemical and immunogold analyses confirmed its expression in different caryopsis tissue such as seed coat,aleurone cell and endosperm,particularly in amyloplast and storage vacuoles.A plant-based ApoA-IM production system offered numerous advantages over current production systems,including the direct production of the most therapeutically effective dimeric ApoA-IM forms,long-term protein storage in seeds,and ease of protein production by simply growing ***,seeds had the potential to serve as a costeffective source of therapeutic ApoA-IM.

Background:Since it was first described in 2001,endoscopic ultrasonography-guided biliary drainage(EUS-BD)has emerged as an alternative procedure for achieving an endoscopic internal drainage in case of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP)*** drainage can be achieved by either a transduodenal extrahepatic approach through EUS-guided choledochoduodenostomy(EUS-CDS),or a transgastric intrahepatic approach,namely EUS-guided hepaticogastrostomy(EUS-HGS)which already holds a remarkable place in the treatment of patients with malignant biliary *** sources:for this review we did a comprehensive search of PubMed/MEDLINE from inception to May 31,2021 for papers with a significant sample size(at least 20 patients enrolled)dealing with *** on technical success,clinical success and rate of adverse events were ***:A total of 22 studies with different design,com prising 874 patients,were *** success was achieved in about 96% of cases(ranging from 65% to 100%).Clinical success was obtained in almost 91% of cases(ranging from 76% to 100%).Overall rate of adverse events was 19%(ranging from 0% to 35%).Abdominal pain,self-limiting pneumoperitoneum,bile leak,cholangitis,bleeding,perforation and intraperitoneal migration of the stent were the most ***:Despite both safety and efficacy profile,at the moment HGS still remains a challenging procedure at every single step and must therefore be conducted by a very experienced endoscopist in interventional EUS and ERCP procedures,who is able to deal with the possible severe adverse events of this procedure.A rapid introduction in clinical practice of dedicated devices is desiderable.

In the same silicon photonic integrated circuit,we compare two types of integrated degenerate photon-pair sources(microring resonators and waveguides)using Hong–Ou–Mandel(HOM)interference *** nominally identical microring resonators are coupled to two nominally identical waveguides,which form the arms of a Mach–Zehnder *** is pumped by two lasers at two different wavelengths to generate,by spontaneous four-wave mixing,degenerate photon *** particular,the microring resonators can be thermally tuned in or out of resonance with the pump wavelengths,thus choosing either the microring resonators or the waveguides as photon-pair sources,*** this way,an on-chip HOM visibility of 94%with microring resonators and 99%with straight waveguides is measured upon *** compare our experimental results with theoretical simulations of the joint spectral intensity and the purity of the degenerate photon *** verify that the visibility is connected to the sources’indistinguishability,which can be quantified by the overlap between the joint spectral amplitudes(JSA)of the photon pairs generated by the two *** estimate a JSA overlap of 98%with waveguides and 89%with microring resonators.

Old-growth forests play a key-role in reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO_(2)) concentrations by storing large CO_(2)amounts in biomass and soil over *** quantifies the carbon pool into different forest compartments in three Mediterranean old-growth forests of Southern Italy populated by Pinus laricio,fagus sylvatica and Abies *** carbon pools have been assessed per compartment,i.e.,living trees,dead wood,litterfall(foliar and woody),roots and 0-20 cm topsoil,combining the whole old-growth forest mass,(i.e.,using tree allometric relationships,deadwood factor conversions,root-to-shoot ratios,litterfall and soil samplings) by the respective organic carbon *** results show the considerable capacity of these forest ecosystems in storing CO_(2)in biomass and soil,with carbon pool values ranging from 532.2to 596.5 Mg C *** trees and 0-20 cm topsoil had larger carbon pool,contributing 53.0 and 22.1%,*** most cases,organic carbon concentration was higher(more than 60%) than the average carbon conversion rate of 50%,especially in living trees,deadwood,and woody *** study contributes further scientific evidence of the capacity of old-growth forests in storing CO_(2)in their different compartments,with special evidence on tree biomass,litterfall and mineral soil,thereby highlighting the key role of old-growth forests within the challenge of climate change mitigation.

The simplest picture of excitons in materials with atomic-like localization of electrons is that of frenkel excitons,where electrons and holes stay close together,which is associated with a large binding ***,using the example of the layered oxide V_(2)O_(5),we show how localized charge-transfer excitations combine to form excitons that also have a huge binding energy but,at the same time,a large electron-hole distance,and we explain this seemingly contradictory *** anisotropy of the exciton delocalization is determined by the local anisotropy of the structure,whereas the exciton extends orthogonally to the chains formed by the crystal ***,we show that the bright exciton goes together with a dark exciton of even larger binding energy and more pronounced *** findings are obtained by combining first principles many-body perturbation theory calculations,ellipsometry experiments,and tight binding modelling,leading to very good agreement and a consistent *** explanation is general and can be extended to other materials.

Chronic liver disease is characterized by several hematological derangements resulting in a complex and barely rebalanced haemostatic *** is the most common abnormality observed in these patients and recent advances have led to researchers focus the attention on the multifactorial origin of thrombocytopenia and on the key role of thrombopoietin(TPO)in its *** thrombocytopenia(platelet countf patients with chronic liver disease by increasing the potential risk of bleeding for invasive procedures,which may be therefore delayed or canceled even if *** the very last years,the development of new drugs which exceed the limits of the current standard of care(platelet transfusions,either immediately before or during the procedure)paves the way to a new scenario in the management of this population of *** agents,such as the TPOreceptor agonists avatrombopag and lusutrombopag,have been developed in order to increase platelet production as an alternative to platelet *** agents have demonstrated a good profile in terms of efficacy and safety and will hopefully allow reducing limitations and risks associated with platelet transfusion,without any delay in scheduled ***,it is expected that patients with chronic liver disease will be able to face invasive procedures with one more string in their bow.
