This study shows that submicron/nanoparticles found in bacterial cells (S. aureus) incubated with polyurethane (a material commonly used for prostheses in odontostomatology) are a consequence of biodestruction. The presence of polyurethane nanoparticles into bacterial vesicles suggests that the internalization process occurs through endocytosis. TEM and FIB/SEM are a suitable set of correlated instruments and techniques for this multi facet investigation: polyurethane particles influence the properties of S. aureus from the morpho-functional standpoint that may have undesirable effects on the human body. S. aureus and C. albicans are symbiotic microorganisms;it was observed that C. albicans has a similar interaction with polyurethane and an increment of the biodestruction capacity is expected by its mutual work with S. aureus.

The author proves a global existence result for strong solutions to the quasilinear dissipative hyperbolic equation (1.1) below, corresponding to initial values and source terms of arbitrary size, provided that the hyperbolicity parameter ε is sufficiently small. This implies a corresponding global existence result for the reduced quasilinear parabolic equation (1.4) below.

The authors consider the asymptotic behavior of solutions of the quasilinear hyperbolic equation with linear damping u_tt+ u_t - div (a(u)u) = 0, and show that, at least when n ≥ 3, they tend, as t - +∞, to those of the nonlinear parabolic equation v_t - div (a(v)v) = 0, in the sense that the norm ||u(., t) - v(., t) ||L∞ (R^n) of the difference u - v decays faster than that of either u or v. This provides another example of the diffusion phenomenon of nonlinear hyperbolic waves, first observed by Hsiao, L. and Liu Taiping (see [1, 2]).

This paper considers controlling and maximizing the absorbed power of wave energy converters for irregular waves. With respect to physical constraints of the system, a model predictive control is applied. Irregular waves’ behavior is predicted by Kalman filter method. Owing to the great influence of controller parameters on the absorbed power, these parameters are optimized by imperialist competitive algorithm. The results illustrate the method’s efficiency in maximizing the extracted power in the presence of unknown excitation force which should be predicted by Kalman filter.

由于环境与人为等因素的长期影响,木结构古建筑普遍存在倾斜歪闪等损伤问题,严重影响了古木建筑的安全,亟需纠偏修复。研究尝试提出一种整体纠偏方法,构建木构架结构纠偏理论计算模型,通过数值模拟方法分析了纠偏过程的可行性,并以某多层木结构建筑的纠偏复位过程为例加以验证。结果表明:纠偏后结构楼层偏移明显减小,纠偏过程中主要结构构件仍然处于弹性范围内,纠偏效果良好,可为同类古建木构架纠偏理论研究提供借鉴。

Transient elastography and the acoustic radiation force impulse techniques may play a pivotal role in the study of liver fibrosis. Some studies have shown that elastography can detect both the progression and regression of fibrosis. Similarly, research results have been analysed and direct and indirect serum markers of hepatic fibrosis have shown high diagnostic accuracy for advanced fibrosis/cirrhosis. The prognosis of different stages of cirrhosis is well established and various staging systems have been proposed, largely based on clinical data. However, it is still unknown if either noninvasive markers of liver fibrosis or elastography may contribute to a more accurate staging of liver cirrhosis, in terms of prognosis and fibrosis regression after effective therapy. In fact, not enough studies have shown both the fibrosis regression in different cirrhosis stages and the point beyond which the prognosis does not change- even in the event of fibrosis regression. Therefore, future studies are needed to validate noninvasive methods in predicting the different phases of liver cirrhosis.

We report the present knowledge about RPHM21, a novel male-specific mitochondrial protein with a putative role in the paternal inheritance of sperm mitochondria in the Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum, a species with doubly uniparental inheritance of mitochondria （DUI）. We review all the available data on rphm21 transcription and translation, analyze in detail its female counterpart, RPHF22, discuss the homology with RPHM21, the putative function and origin, and analyze their polymorphism. The available evidence is compatible with a viral origin of RPHM21 and supports its activity during spermatogenesis. RPHM21 is progressively accumulated in mitochondria and nuclei of spermatogenic cells, and we hypothesize it can influence mitochondrial inheritance and sex- ual differentiation. We propose a testable model that describes how the acquisition of selfish fea- tures by a mitochondrial lineage might have been responsible for the emergence of DUI, and for the evolution of separate sexes （gonochorism） from hermaphroditism. The appearance of DUI most likely entailed the invasion of at least 1 selfish element, and the extant DUI systems can be seen as resolved conflicts. It was proposed that hermaphroditism was the ancestral condition of bivalves, and a correlation between DUI and gonochorism was documented. We hypothesize that DUI might have driven the shift from hermaphroditism to gonochorism, with androdioecy as transi- tion state. The invasion of sex-ratio distorters and the evolution of suppressors can prompt rapid changes among sex-determination mechanisms, and DUI might have been responsible for one of such changes in some bivalve species. If true, DUI would represent the first animal sex-determination system involving mtDNA-encoded proteins.

For a long time since their discovery by Christian de Duve in the 1950s,lysosomes have been referred to almost exclusively as passive garbage bags;the endpoint in the degradation of intra-and extracellular *** catabolic function of lysosomes is accomplished by an array of more than 60 acid hydrolases,which together break down a wide variety of biological macromolecules,including proteins,lipids,carbohydrates,and nucleic acids,for reutilization in the metabolic processes of the *** their optimal function,these enzymes require an acidic intraluminal pH of~4.5,which is maintained by the joint action of a proton pump,the vacuolar H+-ATPase,and several ion channels embedded in the lysosomal limiting membrane.

In this study,strontium adsorption from sulfuric acid solution by different Dowex 50W-X ion exchange resins was *** these resins,Dowex 50W-X8 resin showed the maximum sorption of strontium from the aqueous *** effect of pH,contact time,mass of resin,temperature,and concentration of interfering ions on strontium adsorption were evaluated to determine the optimum conditions of strontium sorption *** kinetic models of sorption were analyzed using pseudo-first and pseudo-second order *** results indicated that the pseudo-second order kinetic model was more appropriate than the other ***,the data obtained in this study were fitted into several sorption isotherm models and it was found that the Langmuir sorption isotherm shows the best fitting to the experimental data.

In most eukaryotes,oxidative phosphorylation(OXPHOS)is the main energy production process and it involves both mitochondrial and nuclear *** close interaction between the two genomes is critical for the coordinated function of the OXPHOS *** bivalves show doubly uniparental inheritance(DUI)of mitochondria,where two highly divergent mitochondrial genomes,one inherited through eggs(F-type)and the other through sperm(M-type),coexist in the same ***,it remains a puzzle how nuclear OXPHOS genes coordinate with two divergent mitochondrial genomes in DUI *** this study,we compared transcription,polymorphism,and synonymous codon usage in the mitochondrial and nuclear OXPHOS genes of the DUI species Ruditapes philippinarum using sex-and tissue-specific *** and nuclear OXPHOS genes showed different transcription *** co-transcription signal was observed within mitochondrial(separate for F-and M-type)and within nuclear OXPHOS genes but the signal was weak or absent between mitochondrial and nuclear OXPHOS genes,suggesting that the coordination between mitochondrial and nuclear OXPHOS subunits is not achieved ***-Kreitman and frequency-spectrum based tests indicated that M-type OXPHOS genes deviated significantly from neutrality,and that F-type and M-type OXPHOS genes undergo different selection *** usage analysis revealed that mutation bias and translational selection were the major factors affecting the codon usage bias in different OXPHOS genes,nevertheless,translational selection in mitochondrial OXPHOS genes appears to be less efficient than nuclear OXPHOS ***,we speculate that the coordination between OXPHOS genes may involve post-transcriptional/translational regulation.
