Objective:The recent population census showed China had officially become a graying *** the meantime,China also faces a growing burden of non-communicable *** 2009,a series of policies have been implemented to enhance primary care at the community *** study describes the elderly care services provided in the differently organized community health centers(CHcs).Methods:It covered 13 CHcs of six cities located within the Pearl River Delta(PRD)***-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 59 health administrators,CHC managers,and CHC doctors regarding elderly ***:The study found that accessibility of healthcare for elders has been improved due to the development of health insurance schemes as well as preferential policy to encourage the CHC utilization by the *** the CHcs provide health examinations and chronic disease management to the permanent elderly within their catchment ***,some preventative care such as fall prevention,immunization and mental health management are not ***:Key barriers include low capacity of health service providers in the CHcs,and a lack of government investment in *** report provides an empirical evidence for the health care reform in China.

Suppression of Tumorigenicity 2 (ST2) is a member of the interleukin (IL)-1 receptor family. The ST2 receptor exists in two isoforms - ST2 ligand (ST2L) and soluble ST2 (sST2). ST2L is a membrane receptor and sST2 is a truncated receptor which is soluble in the blood, allowing it to be detected in serum. IL-33 is a member of the IL-1 family of ligand and is the functional ligand of ST2L receptor. It binds to the ST2L, thereby mediating its immune function.

Ventricular tachy-arrhythmias are the commonest cause of sudden cardiac death in patients with ischemic heart disease. It is estimated that up to 20% patients with acute myocardial infarction suffer from these arrhythmias. There is a growing need for developing tools for risk assessment for sudden cardiac death (SCD) in this population. Several ECG indices have been proposed for risk stratification and for prognostication after myocardial infarction (MI). These can divided broadly into those based on repolarization, conduction or both, as reviewed recently. Repolarization indices include QT interval, QT dispersion, T_(peak)-T_(end) interval, T_(peak)-T_(end)/QT ratio, JT_(peak)/JT, (T_(peak)-T_(end))/JT_(peak) and T_(peak)/JT ratios. Conduction indices include QRS duration and QRS dispersion. Conduction-repolarization indices are exemplified by index of Cardiac Electrophysiological Balance (iCEB: QT/QRS), and QRS-T angle, amongst others.

The aging population is an important issue around the world especially in developed *** med-ical advances have substantially extended life span,the same cannot be said for the duration of health *** are seeing in-creasing numbers of elderly people who are frail and/or have multiple chronic conditions;all of these can affect the quality of life of the elderly population as well as increase the burden on the healthcare *** is mechanistically related to common medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus,ischemic heart disease,cognitive decline,and frailty.A recently accepted concept termed‘Accelerated Biological Aging’can be diagnosed when a person’s biological age—as measured by biomarkers of DNA methylation—is older than their corresponding chronological ***,a conditionally essential amino acid,has received much attention in the past few years.A substantial number of animal studies have provided a strong scientific foundation sug-gesting that this amino acid can improve cellular and metabolic health,including blood glucose control,so much that it has been labelled one of the‘longevity amino acids’.In this review article,we propose the rationale that an adequately powered random-ized-controlled-trial(RCT)is needed to confirm whether taurine can meaningfully improve metabolic and microbiome health,and biological *** trial should incorporate certain elements in order to provide the much-needed evidence to guide doctors,and also the community at large,to determine whether this promising and inexpensive amino acid is useful in improving human metabolic health.

AIM:To investigate the molecular mechanism and functional consequences of heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) activation by lansoprazole in endothelial cells and macrophages. METHODS:Expression of HO-1 mRNA was analyzed by Northern *** blotting was used to determine the HO-1 and ferritin protein levels. NADPH-dependent reactive oxygen species(ROS) formation was measured with lucigenin-enhanced ***-1 promoter activity in mouse fibroblasts,stably transfected with a 15-kb HO-1 gene that drives expression of the reporter gene luciferase, was assessed using in vivo bioluminescence imaging. RESULTS:Lansoprazole increased HO-1 mRNA levels in endothelial cells and HO-1 protein levelsin *** addition,lansoprazole-induced ferritin protein levels in both cell ***, induction of the antioxidant proteins HO-1 and ferritin by lansoprazole was followed by a decrease in NADPH- mediated ROS *** radical scavenging properties of lansoprazole were diminished in the presence of the HO inhibitor,chromium mesoporphyrin *** of HO-1 gene expression by lansoprazole was not related to oxidative stress or to the activation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway. However,the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase inhibitor LY294002 showed a concentration-dependent inhibition of HO-1 mRNA and promoter activity. CONCLUSION:Activation of HO-1 and ferritin may account for the gastric protection of lansoprazole and is dependent on a pathway blocked by LY294002.

Objective: To develop an auto-segmentation method for delineating the biological tumor volume of nasopharyngeal carcinoma from positron emission tomography images. Methods: A phantom consisting of a water tank with fixed background fluorodeoxyglucose [18F-FDG] activity and spheres with diameters ranging from 2.1 to 5 cm with varying activities of FDG were used to simulate tumors of different sizes and FDG uptake. The phantom was scanned with a PET/CT scan at different sphere to background intensity ratios. An optimum fixed percentage threshold (FT) approach and a signal-to-background ratio (SBR) approach were developed to estimate the true size of the spheres from the PET images. Both approaches were further evaluated in patient images for validation. Twenty-two patients with NPC from stage T1 to T4 were included. The PET based biological tumor volumes (BTV) were delineated with both FT (BTVFT) and SBR (BTVSBR) approaches and compared with the gross tumor volume localized from MRI (GTVMR). The mean volumes of BTVFT and BTVSBR were compared and the degree of overlap between GTVMR and both BTVs was evaluated. Paired t-tests were used for statistical analysis. Results: The optimal FT value was 36.5% of maximal intensity, and SBR approach was represented by an inverse linear regression model. The estimated volume of spheres segmented by both approaches shows no significant difference from the true volume of spheres (p > 0.05), but the average absolute errors were smaller from SBR approach than FT approach (p = 0.008). GTVMR was larger than both BTVFT (p = 0.003) and BTVSBR (p SBR with GTVMR is significantly larger than with BTVFT (0.52 and 0.42 respectively, p MR for radiotherapy planning purpose.
