Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) account for 2% of all tumors of the digestive tract. They are most frequently located in the stomach followed by the small intestine and most often present with mucosal ulceration and erosion associated with gastrointestinal bleeding. Bleeding from the small intestine can be difficult to diagnose and angiography becomes a useful diagnostic and therapeutic procedure in these patients. We present a case of a GIST located in the ileum which presented with a lower gastrointestinal bleeding (LGIB). The patient was stabilized by performing an arteriography and selective embolization of the bleeding point, followed by elective surgery.

Insomnia prevalence may reach up to 30%of the population considering at least one of the following criteria:difficulty in falling asleep,difficulty in remaining asleep,waking up too early,not repairing sleep or bad sleep quality,followed by daily consequences of lack of sleep such as lack of attention or *** studies have reported the use of acupuncture as a therapeutic alternative for insomnia treatment showing important results such as anxiety decrease,improvement of sleep quality,decrease of daily consequences of insomnia,among *** aim of this project was to use acupuncture as treatment for insomnia using the points Shenmen(神门HT7),Taiyuan(太渊LU9),neiguan(内关PC6)and Yintang(印堂EX-Hn3).After the signing of the TCLE,the patient answered a questionnaire during sessions 1,5 *** patient received insomnia treatment through puncture of the following points:HT7,LU9,PC6 and *** patient reported a significant improve in the sleep quality after the first sessions and absence of the symptoms after the tenth *** we conclude that the stimulation of these acupoints is useful in the insomnia treatment.

Application of Magnetic Particle Imaging to Pulmonary Imaging Using nebulized Magnetic nanoparticles

Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of applying magnetic particle imaging (MPI) to pulmonary imaging using nebulized magnetic nanoparticles (MnPs) and to quantify the mucociliary clearance in the lung, using small animal experiments. Materials and Methods: Intrapulmonary administration of MnPs was performed in seven-week-old male ICR (Institute of Cancer Research) mice (n = 8) using a nebulized microsprayer connected to a high-pressure syringe containing 50 μL of MnPs (500 mM Resovist®). We imaged the lungs using our MPI scanner 2.5 hours, 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days after the intrapulmonary administration of MnPs. The average MPI value was calculated by drawing a region of interest (ROI) on the lungs by taking the threshold value for extracting the contour as 20% of the maximum MPI value within the ROI. The MPI value was defined as the pixel value of the transverse image reconstructed from the third-harmonic signals. Mice were sacrificed immediately after the last MPI and X-ray CT studies on day 7, and 5 lobes of the lung in each mouse were extracted to confirm the accumulation of iron using Berlin blue staining. Results: We could visualize the distribution of MnPs in the lungs as positive contrast using MPI with use of nebulized MnPs. The presence of iron in the lung was confirmed by Berlin blue staining. The average MPI value decreased with time and tended to saturate. The clearance rate was calculated to be 0.505 day−1 from the time course of the average MPI value in the lungs. Conclusion: Our preliminary results suggest that MPI can be applied to pulmonary imaging by nebulizing MnPs and can be useful for quantifying the mucociliary clearance in the lung.

Earth keeps getting bombarded by high-energy particles that originate in the outer space and in Sun. Cosmic radiation in Earth’s atmosphere consists of a photon and directly ionizing component and a neutron component. Charged particles of cosmic radiation are deflected by the geomagnetic field that is more expressed at the equator than near the poles. Photon radiation was measured by Radiameter ESM FH 40G-L10 at 26 main meteorological stations in all parts of Croatia. The correlation between the photon dose rate and latitude was examined, as well as multiple correlations for the photon dose, latitude and altitude. The obtained positive correlation coefficients were statistically significant. The neutron component of the cosmic radiation was measured by series of nuclear track-etched detectors, at the same meteorological stations during one year period. The dependence of the neutron dose rate on the altitude was found and the associated equation of the linear regression was derived. Relation between the values of neutron dose n and altitude h, showed significant dependence of the neutron dose on altitude. However, the correlation of neutron dose and geographic (geomagnetic) latitude was not statistically significant, probably due to a small range of geographic latitudes for the measuring stations in Croatia.

The effect of barium additives on the process of anodic corrosion of lead-tin-calcium alloys in a 4.8 М sulfuric acid solution was studied. Cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, weight loss measurements and scanning electronic microscope analysis have allowed exploring the oxidation process and characterizing the formed corrosion layer. According to our results, barium introduction into lead-tin-calcium alloys increases their hardness, reduces their electrochemical activity, and improves their corrosion stability. Reduction of the calcium content in the alloy can be compensated by adding barium. Barium dopation at lead-tin-calcium alloys decreases the resistance of the oxide layer formed on the grid surface, in a deeply discharged state, and raises its resistance during floating conditions and at a charged state of the positive electrode.

Background: Congenital malformations of the face are relatively frequent in the Gbèke region (Côte d’Ivoire). Objectives: Identify the epidemiological aspects, describe the management method, distinguish the anatomical-clinical aspects and identify the therapeutic methods and their results. Material and methods: A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out over a period of 8 years (2012-2019) in the Odontostomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the University Hospital Centre (Bouaké) and in the “Jean Baptiste Vatelot” religious hospital of Bouaké. The study concerned patients whose congenital malformations of the face had undergone primary surgery. Results: 439 patients were collected, i.e. an annual frequency of 54.88 cases per year. The sex ratio was 1.07 and the mean age was 6.82 years (range 5 months to 48 years). There were 434 (98.86%) cleft lips and palates and 5 (1.14%) Tessier’s clefts. Among the cleft lip and palate, there were 214 (49.31%) cleft lip, 127 (29.26%) cleft palate and 93 (21.43%) combined cleft lip and cleft palate. Surgical treatments numbered 532 and included 293 (55.08%) cheiloplasties, 113 (21.24%) pushback uranostaphyloraphies and 90 (16.92%) double flap palatoplasties. Complications were noted in 43 cases. Conclusion: Congenital malformations of the face were managed relatively late in the Gbèkè region with satisfactory results. Ante-natal diagnosis, early psychotherapy and a better screening system should allow an improvement of the management.

Antioxidative Effect of Fermented Soybeans Extract in Beef Patties with and without n-3 Fatty Acids

The objectives of the study were： a） to determine the optimal concentration of the extract that should be incorporated in meat products to maintain the lipid oxidative stability, and b） to verify if the extract exerted antioxidant activity even when these products were enriched with soybean oil （with fatty acids omega 3）. To carry out these aims, in the first instance the additive was incorporated into meat patties （elaborated with 80% beef and 20% fat plus 2% salt over total mass） at 0, 0.5, 1, 5 and 10 g/kg, respectively. The lipid oxidation was evaluated by measurement of peroxide value during 15 days at 8 ℃ and the results were expressed as reduction percentage of peroxidation （RP）. RP obtained were 55, 49, 73 and 59 respectively. As 5 g/kg was the optimum concentration of antioxidant, this was chosen to add to meat products enriched with soybean oil. In this case the RP obtained was 78%, indicating that the extract decreased lipid oxidation effectively.
