Inert dusts are an early form of insecticide which is still in use. One of the most common inert dusts is volcanic ash. In order to study the reaction ofrangeland grasshoppers, Dichroplus vittigerum （Acrididae） and a katydid, t]wgilis mendosensis （Phaneropteridae）, to the presence of volcanic ash in their food sources and how this reaction changed as a function of time, we conducted paired preference tests between clean leaves of their pre- ferred host plant and leaves exposed to volcanic ash of different grain size. The behavioral response was measured as the rating on the Thurstonian preference scale of leaves with ash in relation to clean leaves. The results showed that the avoidance of volcanic ash increased as a function of time in both species. Both species studied are occasionally exposed to vol- canic activity, and come from an area in which a volcanic eruption had recently occurred. As their populations did not decrease after the ash fall, we propose that some behavioral responses such as avoidance of places with ash, works as tolerance mechanism to inert dusts exposure.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of massage versus ear acupuncture on behavior and participation in occupational therapy of dementia patients. METHODS: We performed a controlled, randomized longitudinal trial approved by the Bioethics Commission of the University of Extremadura. One hundred twenty elderly subjects with dementia institutionalized in residential homes in Extremadura (Spain) received treatment based on massage and ear acupuncture over three months. Behavior alterations, sleep disturbance, and participation in rehabilitation and eating were assessed every month during the three months of intervention, and at one and two months of follow-up after the end of treatment. The assessment was performed through a structured questionnaire with closed format ques-tions done by an occupational therapist not involved in the study. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant positive effect of massage and ear acupuncture (P< 0.001) on measured variables in the third month of intervention, which were maintained at two months after completing the treatment (P<0.021), when compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Massage therapy and ear acupuncture can improve behavior and sleep disturbances, and increase the participation in eating and rehabilitation organized in residential homes, in dementia patients.

The immune-inflammatory response is associated with increased nitro-oxidative stress.The aim of this mechanistic review is to examine:(a)the role of redox-sensitive transcription factors and enzymes,ROS/RNS production,and the activity of cellular antioxidants in the activation and performance of macrophages,dendritic cells,neutrophils,T-cells,B-cells,and natural killer cells;(b)the involvement of high-density lipoprotein(HDL),apolipoprotein A1(ApoA1),paraoxonase-1(PON1),and oxidized phospholipids in regulating the immune response;and(c)the detrimental effects of hypernitrosylation and chronic nitro-oxidative stress on the immune response.The redox changes during immune-inflammatory responses are orchestrated by the actions of nuclear factor-κB,HIF1α,the mechanistic target of rapamycin,the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B signaling pathway,mitogen-activated protein kinases,5'AMP-activated protein kinase,and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor.The performance and survival of individual immune cells is under redox control and depends on intracellular and extracellular levels of ROS/RNS.They are heavily influenced by cellular antioxidants including the glutathione and thioredoxin systems,nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2,and the HDL/ApoA1/PON1 complex.Chronic nitro-oxidative stress and hypernitrosylation inhibit the activity of those antioxidant systems,the tricarboxylic acid cycle,mitochondrial functions,and the metabolism of immune cells.In conclusion,redox-associated mechanisms modulate metabolic reprogramming of immune cells,macrophage and T helper cell polarization,phagocytosis,production of pro-versus anti-inflammatory cytokines,immune training and tolerance,chemotaxis,pathogen sensing,antiviral and antibacterial effects,Toll-like receptor activity,and endotoxin tolerance.

The deployment of hydrogen as an energy carrier is found to be a vital alternative fuel for the future. It is expected that water electrolysis, powered by renewable energy sources, be able to scale-up hydrogen production. However, the reaction kinetic of oxygen evolution reaction(OER) is a sluggish process, which predominantly limits the efficiency of water electrolysis. This review recapitulates the recent progress and efforts made in the design and development of two selected earth-abundant bimetallic electrocatalysts(Ni Co and Co Fe) for alkaline OER. Each bimetal electrocatalyst is thoroughly outlined and discussed in five sub-sections, including bimetal(oxy) hydroxides, Layered double hydroxides(LDHs) structures,oxides, composites, alloy and nanostructured electrocatalysts, and assembled with heteroatoms.Furthermore, a brief introduction to an in situ/operando characterization techniques and advantages for monitoring the structure of the electrocatalysts is provided. Finally, a summary outlining the challenges and conceivable approaches to advance OER performance is highlighted and discussed.

中国与南美国家贸易具有长期的发展历史,近年来随着中国与南美国家经济发展,双边贸易越来越频繁,贸易结构也在发生改变,特别是随着“一带一路”倡议的实施,中国与南美国家的贸易快速发展。影响中国与南美国家贸易发展的因素有哪些?中国与南美国家贸易具有哪些合作潜力?在上述背景下,对这些问题的深入研究具有重要意义。本文首先对中国与南美贸易现状进行了分析,重点分析了中国与南美国家的贸易规模和产品结构,采用显性比较优势指数和产业内贸易指数,对中国与南美国家贸易的竞争性和互补性进行测算。其次,本文采用贸易引力模型,在原有变量基础上,引进了汇率、班轮运输连通性指数、是否同属一个贸易组织三个新增变量,进而对中国与南美国家贸易影响因素进行了实证分析。最后,本文采用贸易潜力模型对中国与南美国家的贸易潜力进行了实证分析。本文研究发现:中国与南美国家的贸易产品总体上以互补性为主,竞争性不强。中国与南美国家在信息和通讯技术产品、制造业产品、矿石和金属产品、燃料产品、食品、农业原材料方面都存在很强的互补性。中国与南美国家贸易影响因素的回归分析表明:GDP对双边的贸易额增长有正向影响,双方经济规模扩大有利于双边贸易发展;经济距离对双方贸易额增长有负向影响;人口数量对双边贸易额增长有正向影响;班轮运输连通性指数对双方贸易额增加有正向影响;南美国家货币兑换人民币的汇率对双边贸易额增长有负向影响;是否同属一个经济组织对双边贸易额具有正向影响。中国与南美贸易潜力巨大的国家有玻利维亚、厄瓜多尔、巴拉圭、哥伦比亚、圭亚那;具有贸易潜力再造市场的国家有巴西、秘鲁、乌拉圭、阿根廷;需要全力开发市场的国家是智利。论文在研究结论基础上提出对策建议,指出要提高中国与南美国家的贸易互补性,推进中国与南美的国际产能合作,促进自由贸易市场的合作和发展。

Fragile X syndrome （FXS） is the most common monogenic cause of intellectual disability and a cause for autism. FXS females report milder phenotypes and a lower rate of cognitive problems compared to males. This is most likely because most females are heterozygous, while males are hemizygous for the disease. Thus, most preclinical studies have been completed in males. As there is major interest in testing experimental drugs for FXS, it is imperative to determine whether females in animal models used for research, present behavioral alterations that might translate to humans in order to confirm that experimental drugs have an effect on both genders. In our study we describe behavioral phenotypes in homozygous FXS female mice developed on the FVB.129 background. We focused on detection of hippocampal-mediated cognitive abilities and other behaviors described for FXS. Our research shows that, while female FVB.129-Fmrl knockout mice present normal learning, they have impaired memory, as well as susceptibility to audiogenic seizures. In agreement with previous reports in rodents and humans, significant levels of the small GTPase Racl were found in FXS female mice. Because Racl is involved in neuronal development, plasticity and behavior, we additionally aimed to pharmacologically inhibit Racl and determine whether observed phenotypes are rescued. Treatment of female FVB.129-Fmrl knockout with a Racl inhibitor abolished behavioral deficits, bringing phenotypes to control levels. Our results suggest that female FVB.129-Fmrl knockout mice display behavioral impairments that resemble FXS in humans. Moreover, those behavioral shortfalls might be associated with alteration of plasticity involving excessive Racl function, since pharmacological reduction of Racl normalizes previously altered phenotypes to control levels.

Land system change has never been out of human concerns. It is always one of the hottest themes in global environmental change research （Seto et al., 2002; Gutman et al., 2004）. With the development of research on land use change and the Global Land Project, it is necessary to explore the interactions and associations among various factors in the land system from a systematic perspective to recognize the causes and effects of land system change.

Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) has gained wide acceptance as an important, minimally invasive diagnostic tool in gastroenterology, pulmonology, visceral surgery and oncology. This review focuses on data regarding risks and complications of non-interventional diagnostic EUS and EUS-guided fine-needle biopsy (EUS-FNB). Measures to improve the safety of EUS und EUS-FNB will be discussed. Due to the specific mechanical properties of echoendoscopes in EUS, there is a low but noteworthy risk of perforation. To minimize this risk, endoscopists should be familiar with the specific features of their equipment and their patients' specific anatomical situations (e.g., tumor stenosis, diverticula). Most diagnostic EUS complications occur during EUS-FNB. Pain, acute pancreatitis, infection and bleeding are the primary adverse effects, occurring in 1% to 2% ofpatients. Only a few cases of needle tract seeding and peritoneal dissemination have been reported. The mortality associated with EUS and EUS-FNB is 0.02%. The risks associated with EUS-FNB are affected by endoscopist experience and target lesion. EUS-FNB of cystic lesions is associated with an increased risk of infection and hemorrhage. Peri-interventional antibiotics are recommended to prevent cyst infection. Adequate education and training, as well consideration of contraindications, are essential to minimize the risks of EUS and EUS-FNB. Restricting EUS-FNB only to patients in whom the cytopathological results may be expected to change the course of management is the best way of reducing the number of complications.
