AIM:To correlate circulating soluble ST2(sST2) levels with the severity of ulcerative colitis(UC) and serum levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines,and to demonstrate the predictive power of sST2 levels for differentiation between active and inactive ***:We recruited 153 patients:82 with UC,26 with Crohn's disease(CD) and 43 disease controls [non-inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)].Subjects were excluded if they had diagnosis of asthma,autoimmune diseases or *** serum levels of sST2 and pro-inflammatory cytokines [pg/mL;median(25th-75th)] as well as clinical features,endoscopic and histological features,were subjected to *** sST2 performance for discrimination between active and inactive UC,non-IBD and healthy controls(HC) was determined with regard to sensitivity and specificity,and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient(r).To validate the method,the area under the curve(AUC) of receiver-operator characteristic(ROC) was determined(AUC,95% CI) and the total ST2 content of the colonic mucosa in UC patients was correlated with circulating levels of ***:The serum sST2 value was significantly higher in patients with active [235.80(90.65-367.90) pg/mL] rather than inactive UC [33.19(20.04-65.32) pg/mL],based on clinical,endoscopic and histopathological characteristics,as well as compared with non-IBD and HC(P < 0.001).The median level of sST2 in CD patients was 54.17(35.02-122.0) pg/mL,significantly higher than that of the HC group only(P < 0.01).The cutoff was set at 74.87 pg/mL to compare active with inactive UC in a multicenter cohort of *** of sensitivity,specificity,and ability to correctly classify UC,according to activity,were 83.33%,83.33% and 83.33%,*** AUC of the ROC curve to assess the ability of this molecule to discriminate between active vs inactive UC was 0.92(0.86-0.97,P < 0.0001).The serum levels of sST2 in patients with UC significantly correlated with endoscopic and histo-pathological scores(r =

The role of rhizobacteria in rice plants: Growth and mitigation of toxicity

Allelopathic compounds reduce the growth and productivity of upland rice plants, especially in consecutive plantations. The rhizobacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens BRM-32111 and Burkholderia pyrrocinia BRM-32113 have been recorded as growth promoters in rice. This study was developed to understand the effect of the application of rhizobacteria on upland rice plants in consecutive plantations. Experiments were conducted in a completely randomized design with four replications of four treatments: rice seed inoculated with P. fluorescens BRM-32111, rice seed inoculated with B. pyrrocinia BRM-32113(both sown on soil with rice residue), non-inoculated plants sown on soil with rice residue(control with residue(WR)), and non-inoculated plants on soil with no residue(NR). Roots and seedling growth were adversely affected by allelopathic compounds in control WR plants. Plants inoculated with rhizobacteria P. fluorescens BRM-32111 or B. pyrrocinia BRM-32113 induced an increase of 88% in biomass, 3% in the leaf area, 40% in length, 67% in root biomass, 21% in chlorophyll a, 53% in chlorophyll(a+b), 50% in rate of carbon assimilation(A), 227% in A/rubisco carboxylation efficiency(Ci) and 63% in water use efficiency(WUE) compared to control WR plants. These results indicate that rhizobacteria P. fluorescens BRM-32111 and B. pyrrocinia BRM-32113 increase the tolerance of rice plants to stress from allelochemicals. There are possible practical agricultural applications of these results for mitigating the effects of environmental allelochemistry on upland rice.

Buried bumper syndrome:A complication of percutaneousendoscopic gastrostomy

Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy(PEG) is a widely used method of nutrition delivery for patients with longterm insufficiency of oral intake. The PEG complication rate varies from 0.4% to 22.5% of cases, with minor complications being three times more frequent. Buried bumper syndrome(BBS) is a severe complication of this method, in which the internal fixation device migrates alongside the tract of the stoma outside the stomach. Excessive compression of tissue between the external and internal fixation device of the gastrostomy tube is considered the main etiological factor leading to BBS. Incidence of BBS is estimated at around 1%(0.3%-2.4%). Inability to insert, loss of patency and leakage around the PEG tube are considered to be a typical symptomatic triad. Gastroscopy is indicated in all cases in which BBS is suspected. The depth of disc migration in relation to the lamina muscularis propria of the stomach is critical for further therapy and can be estimated by endoscopic or transabdominal ultrasound. BBS can be complicated by gastrointestinal bleeding, perforation, peritonitis, intra-abdominal and abdominal wall abscesses, or phlegmon, and these complications can lead to fatal outcomes. The most important preventive measure is adequate positioning of the external bolster. A conservative approach should be applied only in patients with high operative risk and dismal prognosis. Choice of the method of release is based on the type of the PEG set and depth of disc migration. A disc retained inside the stomach and completely covered by the overgrowing tissue can be released using some type of endoscopic dissection technique(needle knife, argon plasma coagulation, or papillotome through the cannula). Proper patient selection and dissection of the overgrowing tissue are the major determinants for successful endoscopic therapy. A disc localized out of the stomach(lamina muscularis propria) should be treated by a surgeon.

AIM To examine the effect of Fusobacterium nucleatum(F. nucleatum) on the microenvironment of colonic neoplasms and the expression of inflammatory mediators and microRNAs(miRNAs).METHODS Levels of F. nucleatum DNA, cytokine gene mRNA(TLR2, TLR4, NFKB1, TNF, IL1 B, IL6 and IL8), and potentially interacting miRNAs(miR-21-3p, miR-22-3p, mi R-28-5p, miR-34a-5p, miR-135b-5p) were measured by quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR) TaqMan? assays in DNA and/or RNA extracted from the disease and adjacent normal fresh tissues of 27 colorectal adenoma(CRA) and 43 colorectal cancer(CRC) patients. KRAS mutations were detected by direct sequencing and microsatellite instability(MSI) status by multiplex PCR. Cytoscape v3.1.1 was used to construct the postulated miRNA:mRNA interaction *** Overabundance of F. nucleatum in neoplastic tissue compared to matched normal tissue was detected in CRA(51.8%) and more markedly in CRC(72.1%). We observed significantly greater expression of TLR4, IL1 B, IL8, and miR-135 b in CRA lesions and TLR2, IL1 B, IL6, IL8, mi R-34 a and miR-135 b in CRC tumours compared to their respective normal tissues. Only two transcripts for miR-22 and miR-28 were exclusively downregulated in CRC tumour samples. The mRNA expression of IL1 B, IL6, IL8 and miR-22 was positively correlated with F. nucleatum quantification in CRC tumours. The mRNA expression of miR-135 b and TNF was inversely correlated. The miRNA:mRNA interaction network suggested that the upregulation of miR-34 a in CRC proceeds via a TLR2/TLR4-dependent response to F. nucleatum. Finally, KRAS mutations were more frequently observed in CRC samples infected with F. nucleatum and were associated with greater expression of miR-21 in CRA, while IL8 was upregulated in MSI-high *** Our findings indicate that F. nucleatum is a risk factor for CRC by increasing the expression of inflammatory mediators through a possible mi RNA-mediated activation of TLR2/TLR4.

Background: Anesthetic agents are commonly utilized in the handling of non‐human primates for prevent the stress caused in physical exploration or physical restrain. For this reason, the objective of this work was to describe the effect of age and dissociative anesthetics (ketamine and tiletamine), and their combinations with acepromazine, xylazine and zolazepam, on the physiological and blood biochemical parameters in Macaca mulatta. Methods: Eighty male Macaca mulatta were divided into four experimental groups depending on the anesthetic mixture applied. Each group of 20 males was divided into five sub‐groups according to age. Physiological parameters were recorded every five minutes during a 30‐minute period. A blood sample was drawn to analyze blood biochemistry. Results: Statistical analyses revealed significant differences in the physiological parameters between the ketamine‐acepromazine and ketamine‐xylazine groups compared to the control group. The analysis of blood biochemistry found significant differences by age and by anesthetic mixture among all groups. Conclusion: These findings contribute to standardizing this animal model in biological research.

世界上一次采油平均采收率约为35%,仍处于较低水平。气驱是提高采收率(EOR)的一种常用方法,但气驱后容易发生气窜的问题导致原油开采程度较低。为了提高原油采收率,本论文研制了一种适用于储层注水和注气开采的泡沫堵剂,这种堵剂能有效地防止开采层的气窜现象,在保持储层压力的同时,提高原油采收率。CO泡沫驱油是一种新的EOR技术,可以提高波及体积和洗油效率,但由于泡沫在苛刻的储层条件(例如高温和高矿化度)下的稳定性较差,因此生产稳定的泡沫就变得至关重要。本论文通过发泡稳泡实验研究了不同表面活性剂质量浓度对体系发泡稳泡能力的影响,并研究了二氧化硅纳米颗粒对CO泡沫稳定性的影响。论文还分析了表面活性剂和纳米颗粒之间的协同作用提高泡沫稳定性的机理,同时研究了CO泡沫在多孔介质中的渗流规律。研究结果表明,表面活性剂质量浓度的大小对CO泡沫稳定性有着重要作用,由于界面张力较低,离子型表面活性剂与二氧化硅纳米颗粒之间的协同作用可以使CO泡沫稳定性得到提高,更有利于采油。CO气体既能用来驱替原油,也可用作防气窜堵剂,它能够有效地防止高渗透性层中的CO气体窜流。

End Stage Renal Disease in a Child with Epidermolysis Bullosa

Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is an inherited connective tissue disease causing blisters in the skin and mucosal membranes. In severe cases, EB may be associated with renal damage through several mechanisms, mainly immunological ones. The present case described a young male with dystrophic recessive EB who developed an advanced chronic renal damage secondary to tubulointerstitial nephritis that was demonstrated by a renal biopsy. Unpublished previously, this complication should be considered among the possible causes of renal damage in EB. Also it is recommended a protocoled surveillance of renal and urinary tract complications in children with EB.

Binder masses in the field of ***2 ***2O3 - ***3 of the CaO AI2O3-Fe2O3-CaSO4 system obtained by solid state reactions from chemically pure reagents have been studied as two different series. The first had a constant amount of 40% C2S, while the second had a constant amount of 20% C4A3S. The influence of the composition, especially of SO3 content, upon the hydraulic properties and physico-mechanical properties (setting time, compressive strength, expansion etc.) has been followed for up to 28 days. There is a strict dependence between SO3 content, expansion and compressive mechanical strengths of the samples. An optimum content of SO3 (as CaSO4) in clinker determines the formation of calcium sulphoaluminate compound, C4A3S, in corresponding quantities. The hydration was kinetically investigated using different fitting function in order to find the best model and to identify the changes during the hardening time over 28 days. Two different correlation functions between the mineralogical composition and the mechanical behaviors are proposed for the sulfoferroaluminat belite - S(F)AB - binder masses.

Marginal discrepancy and microleakage in crown-copings fabricated by three CAD/CAM systems: An <i>in vitro</i>study

The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the microleakage and marginal discrepancy of ceramic crown-copings fabricated by three different CAD/CAM systems. Material and methods: Thirty extracted premolars were prepared for complete all-ceramic crowns with: total convergence 10-degree, 2 mm occlusal reduction, 4.5 mm height, 1.3 mm circular reduction and chamfer marginal preparation. They were divided into three groups and each group (n = 10) received a ceramic crown-coping fabricated by one of three CAD/CAM systems: Procera, KaVo Everest and Cerec inLab. The copings were cemented with Panavia F 2.0. After thermal cycling, the teeth were immersed in 2% basic fuchsine dye for 24 hours. Microleakage was scored using a five-point scale and evaluated under a stereomicroscope at ×18. Marginal discrepancies were assessed with scanning electronic microscope at ×150, with measurements at 50 different points. Data were subjected to a chisquare test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and using Rho Spearman’s correlation test (P 0.05). No significant differences were found in marginal discrepancies for the Procera (62.58 ± 8.98 μm) and KaVo Everest systems (65.54 ± 18.56 μm), (P = 0.941). Significant differences were found for Cerec inLab (132.18 ± 27.75 μm) compared with Procera and KaVo Everest (P = 0.0001). No correlation between the marginal discrepancies and microleakage for the three CAD/CAM crown-copings systems. Conclusions: Cerec inLab CAD/CAM crown-copings showed significantly higher values for microleakage and marginal discrepancy in comparison with Procera and KaVo Everest CAD/CAM crown-copings.
