Histogram equalization using a reduced feature set of background speakers' utterances for speaker recognition

We propose a method for histogram equalization using supplement sets to improve the performance of speaker recognition when the training and test utterances are very short. The supplement sets are derived using outputs of selection or clustering algorithms from the background speakers' utterances. The proposed approach is used as a feature normalization method for building histograms when there are insufficient input utterance *** addition, the proposed method is used as an i-vector normalization method in an i-vector-based probabilistic linear discriminant analysis(PLDA) system, which is the current state-of-the-art for speaker verification. The ranks of sample values for histogram equalization are estimated in ascending order from both the input utterances and the supplement set. New ranks are obtained by computing the sum of different kinds of ranks. Subsequently, the proposed method determines the cumulative distribution function of the test utterance using the newly defined ranks. The proposed method is compared with conventional feature normalization methods, such as cepstral mean normalization(CMN), cepstral mean and variance normalization(MVN), histogram equalization(HEQ), and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute(ETSI) advanced front-end methods. In addition, performance is compared for a case in which the greedy selection algorithm is used with fuzzy C-means and K-means *** YOHO and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute(ETRI) databases are used in an evaluation in the feature space. The test sets are simulated by the Opus Vo IP codec. We also use the 2008 National Institute of Standards and Technology(NIST) speaker recognition evaluation(SRE) corpus for the i-vector system. The results of the experimental evaluation demonstrate that the average system performance is improved when the proposed method is used, compared to the conventional feature normalization methods.

Long-Term Improvement in Precautions for Flood Risk Mitigation:A Case Study in the Low-Lying Area of Central Vietnam

Reconstruction of total lower eyelid defect-a case series

Background:Total lower eyelid defect after eyelid malignancy excision poses a challenge in the surgical management of total lower eyelid *** describe a technique of reconstructing total lower eyelid defect,using a skin flap and the residual lower forniceal ***:A retrospective case series *** patients had undergone lower eyelid basal cell carcinoma excision.A 3-4 mm margin excision was performed and specimens were sent for paraffin section histological *** was performed at the same stage,using a skin flap and the residual lower forniceal conjunctiva.A full thickness skin flap is raised from the lateral cheek,with its base at the lateral *** tissues are not included in the skin *** lower forniceal conjunctiva is released from the inferior retractors and advanced superiorly to cover the inner surface of the skin *** skin flap is transposed to cover the lower eyelid defect and sutured to the soft tissues at the medial end of the *** advanced forniceal conjunctiva is sutured to the superior edge of the skin flap forming the new mucocutaneous junction of the eyelid ***:There were 4 females and 1 male,with a mean age of 74 years(range,68-80 years).Histological clearance was achieved in all *** of the patients developed lagophthalmos,symblepharon or dry eye *** of the patients required any further revision ***:Total lower eyelid defects can be reconstructed using the residual lower fornix conjunctiva and a skin flap.

Mutual antagonism of mouse-adaptation mutations in ha and PA proteins on H9N2 virus replication

Avian H9N2 viruses have wide host range among the influenza A ***,knowledge of H9N2 mammalian adaptation is *** explore the molecular basis of the adaptation to mammals,we performed serial lung passaging of the H9N2 strain A/chicken/Hunan/8.27 YYGK3W3-OC/2018(3W3)in mice and identified six mutations in the hemagglutinin(ha)and polymerase acidic(PA)*** L226Q,T511I,and A528V of ha were responsible for enhanced pathogenicity and viral replication in mice;notably,ha-L226Q was the key *** T97I,I545V,and S594G of PA contributed to enhanced polymerase activity in mammalian cells and increased viral replication levels in vitro and in ***-T97I increased viral polymerase activity by accelerating the viral polymerase complex *** findings revealed that the viral replication was affected by the presence of PA-97I and/or PA-545V in combination with a triple-point ha ***,the double-and triple-point PA mutations demonstrated antagonistic effect on viral replication when combined with ***,any combination of PA mutations,along with double-point ha mutations,resulted in antagonistic effect on viral *** also observed antagonism in viral replication between PA-545V and PA-97I,as well as between ha-528V and *** findings demonstrated that several antagonistic mutations in ha and PA proteins affect viral replication,which may contribute to the H9N2 virus adaptation to mice and mammalian *** findings can potentially contribute to the monitoring of H9N2 field strains for assessing their potential risk in mammals.

Optimal Operation of Energy Hub Based Micro-energy Network with Integration of Renewables and Energy Storages

This study proposes an optimized model of a micro-energy network(MEN)that includes electricity and natural gas with integrated solar,wind,and energy storage systems(ESSs).The proposed model is based on energy hubs(EHs)and it aims to minimize operation costs and greenhouse *** research is motivated by the increasing use of renewable energies and ESSs for secure energy supply while reducing operation costs and environment effects.A general algebraic modeling system(GAMS)is used to solve the optimal operation problem in the *** results demonstrate that an optimal MEN formed by multiple EHs can provide appropriate and flexible responses to fluctuations in electricity prices and adjustments between time periods and *** also yields significant reductions in operation costs and *** proposed model can contribute to future research by providing a more efficient network model(as compared with the traditional electricity supply system)to scale down the environmental and economic impacts of electricity storage and supply systems on MEN operation.

While the capability approach is increasingly being adopted for evaluating well-being and social justice in the field of human development,this approach in disaster research has remained *** research thus seeks to address the disaster risk that humans face through a lens of capabilities,with a focus on the lives of people with disabilities.A multi-case study approach was adopted and two rural communes in Vietnam were selected as study con *** were collected using focus group discussions and interviews that involved people with disabilities,parents/caregivers of people with intellectual/psychosocial disabilities,and representatives from related *** was found that people with disabilities are affected by disasters due to the lack of capabilities that they value in coping with disasters.A range of capabilities that people with disabilities value was revealed in the study sites,with many being valued not only in times of disasters but also in daily *** findings also highlight that,to actualize their valued capabilities,people with disabilities need access not only to resources but also to the factors that enable them to convert the resources to their valued *** most cases,the limitations to the achievement of capabilities are related to the external environment.

Plant residues differing in C/N ratio in mulch and soil-the effect of the mulch on nutrient availability and microbial biomass is more pronounced with higher leaching amount

This study investigated the effect of C/N ratio,placement of plant residues,and leaching amounts on soil respiration,microbial biomass,and nutrient availability within four weeks after *** faba bean shoots(FB,C/N 7)and mature wheat straw(WH,C/N 80)were used as low and high C/N residue,*** was unamended,mulched with FB or WH only,or mulched with one residue and mixed with the other *** with 5 or 25 mL water was carried out on days 4,12,and *** respiration and microbial biomass N were higher with 25 than 5 mL only in treatments with two *** under FB mulch reduced N availability compared to FB mulch alone,whereas FB under WH increased N availability compared toWHmulch *** soils were leached with 25 mL water,available N in FB mulch over WH was lower on day 12,but higher later,compared to WH mulch over *** contrast,in WH mulch over FB microbial biomass N increased over time whereas available N *** conclusion,the effect of C/N ratio of the mulch on soil available and microbial biomass N was greater with the higher leaching amount.

The aim of this article is to review recent progress in the application of artificial intelligence to chest medical image *** lungs,bone,and mediastinum were included in terms of anatomy,while X-ray and computed tomography(CT),with and without contrast enhancement,were considered regarding imaging *** key components of deep learning were summarized,namely,network architectures,learning strategies,optimiza-tion methods,and vision ***-specific applications were discussed in detail with respect to the dimen-sion of the data input,network architecture,and modality:lung cancer,pneumonia,tuberculosis,pulmonary embolism,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,and interstitial lung disease for lung;traumatic fractures,os-teoporosis,osteoporotic fractures,and bone metastases for bone;and coronary artery calcification and aortic dissection for vascular ***,five promising research directions and possible solutions were presented for future work.
