The effect of an inhomogeneous magnetic field,which varies inversely with distance on the ground state energy level of graphene,is *** analytically show that graphene under the influence of a magnetic field arising from a straight long current-carrying wire(proportional to the magnetic field from carbon nanotubes and nanowires)exhibits zero-energy solutions and find that contrary to the case of a uniform magnetic field for which the zero-energy m.d.s show the localization of electrons entirely on just one sublattice corresponding to a single valley Hamiltonian,zero-energy solutions in this case reveal that the probabilities for the electrons to be on both sublattices,say A and B,are the same.

Aim: To evaluate the effects of 1,3-dinitrobenznene (mdNB) on sperm motility of hamster and to correlate the re-sults with the fertility. methods: Adult male hamsters were gavaged with one of the 3 dose regimes of mdNB(1.5 mg daily for 4 weeks ,1.5 mg one day a week for 4 weeks and 1.0 mg 3 days a week for 4 weeks). Computerassisted semen analysis (CASA) was used to analyse the sperm motility parameters, curvilinear velocity (VCL) andstraight line velocity (VSL) of sperm in distal corpus epididym.d.s and distal cauda epididym.d.s. In vitro fertilisationwas carried out only for 1.5 mg mdNB daily group to determine the sperm fertilising capacity. Results: There wasa significant reduction in sperm velocity parameters at weeks 3 and 4 after treatment, which was correlated with a de-cline in sperm fertility. Conclusion; Sperm velocity parameters may be used to determine the effect of a toxic insulton the sperm function.

Impact behavior of polymers has received considerable attention in recent years,and much work based on fracture mechanic approaches has been carried *** this paper,fracture behavior in large deformation of a high density polyethylene(HdPE)materials was investigated through experimental impact testing on single edge notched specimen(SENB)and by using theoretical and analytical fracture criteria ***,a review of the main fracture criteria is given in order to characterize the toughness of this polymer in the both cases(static and dynamic).The fractured specimens obtained from the Charpy impact test were characterized with respect to their fracture *** zones of the fracture surface can be assigned to different stages and mechanisms of the fracture ***,for a better understanding of fracture and damage mechanisms and to provide the best estimation of fracture toughness in impact,an experimental approach based on microscopic observations(SEm)was used.

Aim: To evaluate the effects of acute and chronic doses of methoxy acetic acid (mAA) on in vitro fertilisation byhamster sperm and to correlate the data with the testicular damage. methods: Adult male hamsters were gavagedwith 3 single doses (0, 80, 160 and 650 mg/kg) and 3 chronic doses (0, 8, 32 and 64 mg/kg daily for 5 weeks) ofmAA in distilled water. After treatment hamsters were killed at weekly intervals and spermatozoa recovered from thedistal cauda epididym.d.s were used to assess the fertilising capacity in vitro. The testes were processed for histologicalexamination. Results; Acute doses showed a significant reduction in sperm fertilising ability from week 3 and 4 af-ter treatment and with the chronic doses, the effects were more extensive and persistent. The results were in correpon-dence with the testicular damages observed. Conclusion: It is evident that both acute and chronic doses of mAAcan impair the sperm function by damaging one or more cell populations in the testis.(Asian J Androl 2001 Sep; 3: 209- 216)

Stainless steel crude alloy recovery from.d.rect smelting of low-grade chromite, nickel laterite and manganese ores was investigated. The mixed low-grade ores were directly smelted in an elevator furnace at smelting temperatures ranging from 1550 to 1600 ℃. Smelting experiments were conducted in a laboratory elevator furnace equipped with 8 U-shaped high- quality molybdenum.d.silicide heating elements. A low-grade coal was used as the reductant. Experimental results showed that the recovery of Fe, Cr, Ni, mn and Si within the alloy increased from 34.22, 60.27, 57.14, 25.42 and 13.02% to 69.91, 99.26, 86.02, 60.8 and 34.21%, respectively, when the temperature was increased from 1550 to 1600 ℃. There was a general increase in the total recoveries of Fe, Cr, and Ni in the alloy with CaO addition increasing from 0.4 g up to 1.2 g. However, the recoveries of mn and Si vividly decreased as the CaO contents were increased. In general, the recoveries of the metal contents of the crude alloy increase with the increase in the amount of manganese ore. Compared to the recoveries of Fe, Cr, and Ni when CaO was added, the recoveries of Fe, Cr and Ni were lower when manganese ore was used as an additive.

The nonlinear analysis with an analytical approach on dynamic torsional buckling of stiffened functionally graded thin toroidal shell segments is investigated. The shell is reinforced by inside stiffeners and surrounded by elastic foundations in a thermal environment and under a time-dependent torsional load. The governing equations are derived based on the donnell shell theory with the yon Karman geometrical nonlinearity, the Stein and mcElman assumption, the smeared stiffeners technique, and the Galerkin method. A deflection function with three terms is chosen. The thermal parameters of the uniform temperature rise and nonlinear temperature conduction law are found in an explicit form. A closed-form expression for determining the static critical torsional load is obtained. A critical dynamic torsional load is found by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and the Budiansky-Roth criterion. The effects of stiffeners, foundations, material, and dimensional parameters on dynamic responses of shells are considered.
