Objective To compare the efficacy of using“distal acupoints only”vs.“local acupoints mainly combined with distal acupoints”in cases of acute low back pain(ALBP).Methods A total of 102 eligible patients aged 18–65 years with ALBP lasting less than 6 weeks will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to the distal acupoints only group(DPOG)and the local acupoints mainly combined with the distal acupoints group(LPMG).During a 4-week treatment period,patients in the DPOG will receive acupuncture at distal acupoints only(Houxi[SI 3]and Yaotongxue[EX-UE 7])twice a week,while those in the LPMG group will receive acupuncture at local acupoints(mainly Shenshu[BL 23]and Dachangshu[BL 25])combined with distal points(Weizh.ng[BL 40]).The patients in both groups will be evaluated at every session of treatment,and the follow-up will be performed for 3 *** primary outcome measure will be the change in ALBP intensity,assessed using visual analogue scale scores before and after *** secondary outcome measure will be the evaluation of functional disability using the Oswestry Disability *** This study compares the DPOG and LPMG to explore the feasibility of the DPOG in the treatment of ALBP.

Miniature fluorescence microscopes are a standard tool in systems ***,widefield miniature microscopes capture only 2D information,and modifications that enable 3D capabilities increase the size and weight and have poor resolution outside a narrow depth ***,we achieve the 3D capability by replacing the tube lens of a conventional 2D Miniscope with an optimized multifocal phase mask at the objective’s aperture *** the phase mask at the aperture stop significantly reduces the size of the device,and varying the focal lengths enables a uniform resolution across a wide depth *** phase mask encodes the 3D fluorescence intensity into a single 2D measurement,and the 3D volume is recovered by solving a sparsity-constrained inverse *** provide methods for designing and fabricating the phase mask and an efficient forward model that accounts for the fieldvarying aberrations in miniature *** demonstrate a prototype that is 17mm tall and weighs 2.5 grams,achieving 2.76μm lateral,and 15μm axial resolution across most of the 900×700×390μm^(3) volume at 40 volumes per *** performance is validated experimentally on resolution targets,dynamic biological samples,and mouse brain *** with existing miniature single-shot volume-capture implementations,our system is smaller and lighter and achieves a more than 2×better lateral and axial resolution throughout a 10×larger usable depth *** microscope design provides single-shot 3D imaging for applications where a compact platform matters,such as volumetric neural imaging in freely moving animals and 3D motion studies of dynamic samples in incubators and lab-on-a-chip devices.

Prostate Cancer in the Thies Region, Senegal: Epidemiological, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects

Introduction: Prostate cancer is the leading urological cancer. It is the most common cancer in men over 50. Objective: To determine the epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of prostate cancer in hospitals in the Thiès region. Patients and Methods: We conducted a descriptive study from January 1st, 2015 to December 31st, 2020. We included all cases of primary prostate cancer confirmed on histology. Results: We collected data on 318 cases of primary prostate cancer during the study period. Mean patient age was 72.7 years (Range: 49;94 years). Family history of prostate cancer was found in 22 patients (6.91%). The average consultation time was 18.6 months. The circumstances of discovery were dominated by obstructive voiding disorders (97.16%). Digital Rectal examination was suggestive in 55.40% of patients. PSA level was above 20 ng/ml in 76.7% of patients. Prostatic adenocarcinoma was the only histological type (100%). Localized cancer represented 7.2% and locally advanced cancer occurred in 36.5% of cases, while metastatic cancer accounted for 56.3%. Radical prostatectomy was performed in 3.18% of cases. Mortality rate was estimated at 8.50% after 1 year. Conclusion: Prostate cancer is the leading urological cancer in the Thies region. It is characterized by the predominance of locally advanced and metastatic forms.

Stomach pain in Chinese medicine（CM） is a very common disorder in clinical practice and it has been listed as one of the pilot three conditions in Hong Kong to develop evidence-based CM clinical practice guidelines（CM CPGs）. The aim of this stomach Pain CPG is to summarize the treatment methods of stomach pain with CM and evaluate reasonably, then to guide local licensed CM practitioners and provide beneficial reference for social medical decision makers and patients. In this manuscript, we defined stomach pain in CM and the category of chronic gastritis in Western medicine. The clinical manifestation, CM pattern classification, and CM intervention including herbal medicine treatment based on pattern differentiation, symptomatic treatment, acupuncture treatment, regulation and nursing were illustrated.

Background:Olfactory dysfunction(OD)is a common symptom of Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19).It is defined as the reduced or distorted ability to smell during sniffing(orthonasal olfaction)and represents one of the early symptoms in the clinical course of COVID-19 infection.A large online questionnaire-based survey has shown that some post-COVID-19 patients had no improvement 1 month after discharge from the ***:To explore the efficacy of acupuncture for OD in COVID-19 infected patients and to determine whether acupuncture could have benefits over sham acupuncture for OD in post-COVID-19 ***:This is a single-blind,randomized controlled,cross-over *** plan to recruit 40 post-COVID-19 patients with smell loss or smell distortions lasting for more than 1 *** patients will be randomly allocated to the intervention group(real acupuncture)or the control group(sham acupuncture)at a 1:1 *** patient will receive 8 sessions of treatment over 4 weeks(Cycle 1)and a 2-week *** the follow-up,the control group will be subjected to real acupuncture for another 4 weeks(Cycle 2),and the real acupuncture group will undergo the 4-week sham *** primary outcomes will be the score changes on the questionnaire of olfactory functioning and olfaction-related quality of life at week 6,8,12,and 14 from the *** secondary outcomes will be the changes in the olfactory test score at week 6 and 12 from the baseline measured by using the Traditional Chinese version of the University of Pennsylvania Smell Identification Test(UPSIT-TC).Discussion:The results of this trial will help to determine the effectiveness of acupuncture for OD in post-COVID-19 *** may provide a new treatment option for patients.

Determination of multiple drugs of abuse in human urine using dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction and capillary electrophoresis with PDA detection

A new method was developed for pre-concentration and determination of multiple drugs of abuse in human urine using dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction(DLLME)and capillary electrophoresis(CE)with photodiode array *** method was based on the formation of tiny droplets of an organic extractant in the prepared sample solution using water-immiscible organic solvent(chloroform)dissolved in water-miscible organic dispersive solvent(isopropyl alcohol).The organic phase,which extracted eight drugs of abuse from the prepared urine solution,was separated by *** sedimented phase was transferred into a small volume CE auto-sampler vial with 10μL of 1%HCl methanol solution and evaporated to *** residue was reconstituted in lidocaine hydrochloride(internal standard)aqueous solution and introduced by electrokinetic injection into *** the optimum conditions,acceptable linear relationship was observed in the range of 3.0–500 ng/mL with the correlation coefficient(r)of 0.9982–0.9994 for spiked urine *** limit of detection(LOD)(S/N=3)was estimated to be 1.0 ng/mL.A recovery of 75.7%–90.6%was obtained for spiked *** mean relative error(MRE)was within±7.0%and the relative standard deviation(RSD)was less than 6.9%.The proposed DLLME-CE procedure offers an alternative analytical approach for the sensitive detection of drugs of abuse in real urine samples.

Background Stroke is a major cause of death or long-term disability *** patients with stroke receive integrative therapy consisting of Western medicine(WM)and routine rehabilitation in conjunction with Chinese medicine(CM),such as acupuncture and Chinese herbal ***,there is no available evidence on the effectiveness of the combined use of WM and CM interventions in stroke *** The purpose of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the results of all individual studies to assess the combined use of CM and WM in stroke rehabilitation compared with WM *** The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines were ***,EMBASE,Cochrane and China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)were *** included outcomes were dependency,motor function,depression and swallowing *** analysis was performed,and publication bias was assessed using funnel *** of review 58 studies and 6339 patients were included in the *** analysis revealed that combined therapy comprising both acupuncture and WM had a superior effect on improving dependency and swallowing function compared with standard WM therapy *** superiority of combined therapy comprising CM and WM in improving depression compared with standard WM therapy was also *** Our results indicate that the combined use of CM and WM could be more efficacious in stroke rehabilitation compared with the use of WM therapy ***,most studies were short in duration(2 to 4 weeks)and prone to different types of biases,which prevents making any conclusion regarding the long-term effects and raises concerns regarding true efficacy in context of high likelihood of Hawthorn ***,more randomised controlled trials with more rigorous design and longer duration of treatment and follow-up need to be conducted to compare WM alone versus WM and CM combined.

Atmospheric particle-bound polycyclic aromatic compounds over two distinct sites in Pakistan:Characteristics,sources and health risk assessment

Much attention is drawn to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)as an air pollutant due to their toxic,mutagenic and carcinogenic ***,to understand the levels,seasonality,sources and potential health risk of PAHs in two distinct geographical locations at Karachi and Mardan in Pakistan,total suspended particle(TSP)samples were collected for over one year *** average total PAH concentrations were 31.5±24.4 and 199±229 ng/m^(3) in Karachi and Mardan,*** significantly lower concentration in Karachi was attributed to diffusion and dilution of the PAHs by the influence of clean air mass from the Arabian sea and high temperature,enhancing the volatilization of the particle phase PAHs to the gas ***,the higher concentration(^(-)6 times)in Mardan was due to large influence from local and regional emission sources.A clear seasonality was observed at both the sites,with the higher values in winter and post-monsoon due to higher emissions and less scavenging,and lower values during monsoon season due to the dilution *** ratios and principal component analysis indicated that PAHs in both sites originated from traffic and mixed combustion sources(fossil fuels and biomass).The average total Ba P equivalent concentrations(Ba P eq)in Karachi and Mardan were 3.26 and 34 ng/m^(3),respectively,which were much higher than the WHO guideline of 1 ng/m^(3).The average estimates of incremental lifetime cancer risk from exposure to airborne Ba P eq via inhalation indicated a risk to human health from atmospheric PAHs at both sites.
