The rapid growth of smart technologies and services has intensified the challenges surrounding identity authenti-cation techniques.Biometric credentials are increasingly being used for verification due to their advantages over traditional methods,making it crucial to safeguard the privacy of people’s biometric data in various scenarios.This paper offers an in-depth exploration for privacy-preserving techniques and potential threats to biometric systems.It proposes a noble and thorough taxonomy survey for privacy-preserving techniques,as well as a systematic framework for categorizing the field’s existing literature.We review the state-of-the-art methods and address their advantages and limitations in the context of various biometric modalities,such as face,fingerprint,and eye detection.The survey encompasses various categories of privacy-preserving mechanisms and examines the trade-offs between security,privacy,and recognition performance,as well as the issues and future research directions.It aims to provide researchers,professionals,and decision-makers with a thorough understanding of the existing privacy-preserving solutions in biometric recognition systems and serves as the foundation of the development of more secure and privacy-preserving biometric technologies.

Dual mobility(DM)bearings have gained significant attention in the field of total hip arthroplasty(THA)as a valid treatment option in cases of revision for instability after THA whereas its use in primary THA is still a matter of debate.This manuscript explores the pathology,incidence,diagnosis,treatment options,prognosis,ongoing studies in the literature,and future perspectives related to the use of DM bearings employed in primary THA.DM bearings are primarily designed to address one of the major concerns in THA:Instability of the prosthetic hip.Instability is both for the surgeon and the patient a devastating postoperative complication,leading to significant pain and subsequent apprehension by the patient and may require revision surgeries.The use of DM implants poses the worry of wear-related complications,such as accelerated polyethylene wear and osteolysis,which also pose challenges to long-term implant survival.This technique has seen a steady rise in recent years,with multiple studies reporting favorable outcomes.The incidence of their utilization varies among institutions and surgeons,reflecting differing preferences and patient populations.The diagnosis of instability and wear-related complications in THA often involves clinical assessment,imaging modalities such as X-rays,computed tomography scans,and sometimes advanced imaging techniques like magnetic resonance imaging.DM bearings can be considered as an option when patients present neurologic pathologies such as Parkinson's disease or recurrent dislocations after THA.DM bearings provide an additional articulation point within the implant,facilitating a greater range of motion and inherent stability.This design allows for reduced risk of dislocation and improved functional outcomes.Various implant manufacturers offer different designs and sizes of DM bearings to suit individual patient needs.Current literature suggests that the use of DM bearings in primary THA has demonstrated promising outcomes in terms of enhanced stability,reduced dislocation rates

Unequal Distribution of Innovation Efforts for Neglected Tropical Diseases: The Role of Funding Evaluation Criteria

Background: International research and innovation efforts for neglected tropical diseases have increased in recent decades due to disparities in overall health research funding in relation to global burden of disease. However, within the field of neglected tropical diseases some seem far more neglected than others. In this research the aim is to investigate the distribution of resources and efforts, as well as the mechanisms that underpin funding allocation for neglected tropical diseases. Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted to establish a comprehensive overview of known indicators for innovation efforts related to a wide range of neglected tropical diseases. Articles were selected based on a subjective evaluation of their relevance, the presence of original data, and the breadth of their scope. This was followed by thirteen in-depth open-ended interviews with representatives of private, public and philanthropic funding organizations, concerning evaluation criteria for funding research proposals. Results: The findings reveal a large difference in the extent to which the individual diseases are neglected with notable differences between absolute and relative efforts. Criteria used in the evaluation of research proposals relate to potential impact, the probability of success and strategic fit. Private organizations prioritize strategic fit and economic impact;philanthropic organizations prioritize short-term societal impact;and public generally prioritize the probability of success by accounting for follow-up funding and involvement of industry. Funding decisions of different types of organizations are highly interrelated. Conclusions: This study shows that the evaluation of funding proposals introduces and retains unequal funding distribution, reinforcing the relative neglect of diseases. societal impact is the primary rationale for funding but application of it as a funding criterion is associated with significant challenges. Background:Exercise training promotes brain plasticity and is associated with protection against cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease(AD).These beneficial effects may be partly mediated by blood-borne factors.Here we used an in vitro model of AD to investigate effects of blood plasma from exercise-trained donors on neuronal viability,and an in vivo rat model of AD to test whether such plasma impacts cognitive function,amyloid pathology,and neurogenesis.Methods:Mouse hippocampal neuronal cells were exposed to AD-like stress using amyloid-βand treated with plasma collected from human male donors 3 h after a single bout of high-intensity exercise.For in vivo studies,blood was collected from exercise-trained young male Wistar rats(high-intensity intervals 5 days/week for 6 weeks).Transgenic AD rats(McGill-R-Thyl-APP)were inj ected 5 times/fortnight for 6 weeks at2 months or 5 months of age with either(a)plasma from the exercise-trained rats,(b)plasma from sedentary rats,or(c)saline.Cognitive function,amyloid plaque pathology,and neurogenesis were assessed.The plasma used for the treatment was analyzed for 23 cytokines.Results:Plasma from exercised donors enhanced cell viability by 44.1%(p=0.032)and reduced atrophy by 50.0%(ps.In vivo exercised plasma treatment did not alter cognitive function or amyloid plaque pathology but did increase hippocampal neurogenesis by~3 fold,regardless of pathological stage,when compared to saline-treated rats.Concentrations of 7 cytokines were significantly reduced in exercised plasma compared to sedentary plasma.Conclusion:Our proof-of-concept study demonstrates that plasma from exercise-trained donors can protect neuronal cells in culture and promote adult hippocampal neurogenesis in the AD rat brain.This effect may be partly due to reduced pro-inflammatory signaling molecules in exercised plasma.

我国住房市场供需矛盾日益凸显,住房公积金制度应当发挥有效作用,助力实现我国人民住有所居,推动共同富裕。通过构建理论分析模型,测算不同时间期限内的公积金参与保障性租赁住房建设的最优建设规模及其资金需求量。运用四川省四个试点城市的数据,初步完成对模型的实用化校准。各公积金中心可结合自身数据,依据模型测算出适合本中心的最优值以指导实务,保障资金有效利用的同时提供足够的保障性租赁住房。模型和研究结论可助力我国住房公积金更有效率地支持保障性租赁住房建设,缓解住房市场矛盾,更好地满足人们的居住需求。

大规模的人口流动已经成为中国人口发展的时代特征,需要理论指导和实践创新来促进外来务工人员社会融合。文章运用跨学科研究理论框架和参与式的研究方法,从学术研究、政策制定和实践运作层面,对江苏省常州市的国际合作“康健计划”行动项目进行了长期的技术支持与跟踪评估,总结了研究经验,进行了理论思考。常州市的实践研究证明,通过跨学科研究思路和社会各部门合作者高度参与的运作方式,当地政府已经建立了一个针对企业外来务工人员的多部门合作社会支持系统,完善了相关管理政策,提高了他们的健康水平和社会适应能力,使他们能够更好地获得市民化服务,并融入社会。

Prostate Cancer in the Thies Region, senegal: Epidemiological, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Aspects

Introduction: Prostate cancer is the leading urological cancer. It is the most common cancer in men over 50. Objective: To determine the epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of prostate cancer in hospitals in the Thiès region. Patients and Methods: We conducted a descriptive study from January 1sup>stsup>, 2015 to December 31sup>stsup>, 2020. We included all cases of primary prostate cancer confirmed on histology. Results: We collected data on 318 cases of primary prostate cancer during the study period. Mean patient age was 72.7 years (Range: 49;94 years). Family history of prostate cancer was found in 22 patients (6.91%). The average consultation time was 18.6 months. The circumstances of discovery were dominated by obstructive voiding disorders (97.16%). Digital Rectal examination was suggestive in 55.40% of patients. PsA level was above 20 ng/ml in 76.7% of patients. Prostatic adenocarcinoma was the only histological type (100%). Localized cancer represented 7.2% and locally advanced cancer occurred in 36.5% of cases, while metastatic cancer accounted for 56.3%. Radical prostatectomy was performed in 3.18% of cases. Mortality rate was estimated at 8.50% after 1 year. Conclusion: Prostate cancer is the leading urological cancer in the Thies region. It is characterized by the predominance of locally advanced and metastatic forms.
