Dear Editor,Fascin actin-bundling protein 1(Fascin,gene name:FSCN1)is the primary actin-bundling protein that clusters filaments into stable and bundled filopodia[1].In previous studies,elevated levels of Fascin promoted filopodia formation and enhanced the invasive ability of tumor cells,suggesting that Fascin is a target for therapeutic intervention[2,3].Therefore,it is necessary to elucidate the detailed molecular mechanism by which Fascin bundles F-actin filaments.

AIM:To investigate the expression profile of miRNA in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).METHODS:The expression profile of miRNA in ESCC tissues was analyzed by miRNA *** expression levels of miR-143 and miR-145 in 86 ESCC patients were determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR) using TaqMan *** mobility effect was estimated by wound-healing using esophageal carcinoma cells transfected with miRNA expression ***:A set of miRNAs was found to be deregulated in the ESCC tissues,and the expression levels of miR-143 and-145 were significantly decreased in most of the ESCC tissues *** miR-143 and miR-145 expression correlated with tumor invasion *** transfection of human esophageal carcinoma cells with miR-143 and miR-145 expression plasmids resulted in a greater inhibition of cell mobility,however,the protein level of the previously reported target of miR-145,FSCN1,did not show any significant ***:These findings suggest that the deregulation of miRNAs plays an important role in the progression of *** miR-143 and miR-145 might act as anti-oncomirs common to ESCC.

Multi-Objective Optimization for an Industrial Grinding and Classification Process Based on PBM and RSM

The grinding and classification process is one of the key sub-processes in mineral processing, which influences the final process indexes significantly and determines energy and ball consumption of the whole plant. Therefore, optimal control of the process has been very important in practice. In order to stabilize the grinding index and improve grinding capacity in the process,a process model based on population balance model(PBM) is calibrated in this study. The correlation between the mill power and the operating variables in the grinding process is modelled by using the response surface method(RSM), which solves the problem where the traditional power modeling method relies on some unobservable mechanism-related parameters. On this basis, a multi-objective optimization model is established to maximize the useful power of the grinding circuit to improve the throughput of the grinding operation and improve the fraction of –0.074 mm particles in the hydrocyclone overflow to smooth the subsequent flotation operation. The elite non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II(NSGA-II) is then employed to solve the multi-objective optimization problem. Finally, subjective and objective weighting methods and integrated multi-attribute decision-making methods are used to select the optimal solution on the Pareto optimal solution set. The results demonstrate that the throughput of the mill and the fraction of –0.074 mm particles in the overflow of the cyclone are increased by 3.83 t/h and 2.53%, respectively.

A hybrid model that combines both physical and numerical models was employed to simulate the velocity field in a river area in complex geometry with multiple plunging jets. The simulation was based on experiments concerning energy dissipation and scour prevention at the Xiluodu Hydropower Station on the Yangtze River. The calculated results indicate that the complex geometry of the river area has a significant influence on the velocity field, especially on the circulation flow pattern at upstream and downstream of the plunging area and on the asymmetric characteristics of the spiral flow near both banks. The scour characteristics of the downstream river bed caused by the multiple jets were also predicted and analyzed according to the characteristics of the calculated velocity field. The good agreement between the simulated and experimental results indicates that the hybrid model can be used to effectively solve complicated 3-D problems with complex geometric and inlet conditions. Such problems may not easily be solved by using either a physical or a numerical model alone, and therefore the method presented in this article is considered to be a practical and effective way of dealing with this kind of problems.

Paleoproterozoic granitic gneisses of the dinggye and LhagoiKangri areas from the higher and northern Himalaya,Tibet:Geochronology and implications

Granitic gneisses have been widely found in crystalline rocks in the dinggye area of the Higher Himalaya (HHM) and the LhagoiKangri area of the North Himalaya (NHM), Tibet. In the HHM, the gneisses intruded in the granulite-amphibolite facies metamorphosed sedimentary rocks, known as Nyalam group. In the NHM, the gneisses intruded in the amphibolite facies metamorphosed ones, known as LhagoiKangri group. These granitic gneisses are peraluminous monzonitic granites in terms of their mineral assemblage, and are considered as being derived from metamorphosed sedimentary rocks by anatexis based on the transitional relationship of the gneisses with their migmatitized wall rocks. Zircons are similar in crystal shape and interior structure from both gneisses. Most of them are euhedral or subhedral elongated prism-shaped transparent crystals, with fine oscillatory zoning, showing the magmatic genesis. Some of them are short prism-shaped and with relict core inherited from magma source and oscillatory zoning mantle crystallized from magma. SHRIMP U-Pb dating of zicons shows that both the granitic gneisses in the HHM and NHM are Paleoproterozoic (1811.6±2.9 Ma and 1811.7±7.2 Ma, respectively). These ages are similar to those (1815 to 2120 Ma) from granitic gneiss which is widely distributed in the Lesser Himalaya (LHM). The ages of inherited zircons (>2493.9±7.0 Ma, 2095.8± 8.8 Ma, 1874±29 Ma) exhibit the possible presence of several thermal events in Paleoproterozoic. All of the ages suggest the same India basement beneath the different units in Himalaya area, and do not support the idea that the HHM and NHM are accretionary terranes in Pan-Africa orogenic event. The fact that the basement in HHM is as old as or even younger than LHM is inconsistent with the presently prevalent orogenic models such as either extrusion of low-viscosity mid-crust or orogenic channel.

A new technology for hard-rock tunneling based on drilling and hydraulic impact breaking

In order to realize the safety, high efficiency and rapidity of hard rock tunneling, we propose the drilling &hydraulic impact hard-rock tunneling(DHIHT) technology and method. Based on the LS-DYNA explicit module and APDL programming, the key parameters of DHIHT, including drilling spacing and drilling radius, were investigated. The simulation results show that: the drilling spacing should not exceed0.20 m-larger distances weaken the actual breaking effect; the best drilling radius is about 0.035 m, larger or smaller distances would both decrease the effect of drilling-hole free surfaces. The field impact breaking experiments were conducted in Baitaizi township granite quarry, Jinzhou, liaoning province,China. The experiment results indicate that DHIHT is a feasible method for hard-rock tunneling, but its efficiency still needs to be further optimized and improved.
