Longitudinal quantitative electroencephalographic study in mono-hemispheric stroke patients

Standardization issues in botanicals:A metabolomic and in silico approach to Monascus purpureus food supplements

Use of Patient-Specific “4d” Tele-Education to Enhance Actual and Perceived Knowledge in Congenital Heart disease (CHd) Patients

Vitamin d therapy in children with inflammatory bowel disease: A systematic review

BACKGROUNd Vitamin d deficiency is highly prevalent in children with inflammatory bowel disease(IBd). This may contribute to an increased risk of poor bone health and may also influence the course of disease. An optimal treatment strategy of vitamin d therapy in children with IBd has not yet been *** To analyse the published intervention studies of vitamin d therapy in children with *** A systematic review was conducted of clinical studies involving children with IBd(including Crohn disease or ulcerative colitis) who had received vitamin d therapy. Studies up to March 31 st 2018 were identified through MEdLINE,PubMed, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library. Search terms included synonyms of the following terms: vitamin d, paediatric, supplementation, IBd. References of included articles based on abstract were searched for other relevant *** relevant articles were accessed and reviewed in full text. Studies fitting the set criteria were included and the remainder were *** Two hundred and seventy-seven discrete articles were identified. Following assessment of these articles included in the initial search and application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, ten published studies were included in this review. The included studies showed a heterogeneity in study design, inclusion and exclusion criteria, baseline demographics and treatment strategies. Treatment regimens differed in length, supplemented form of vitamin d and factors based upon which dosage was adjusted. Each of the reports included in this review concluded their vitamin d regimens to be safe and well-tolerated. Few of the included studies reported secondary outcomes on the efficacy of vitamin d treatment upon the clinical course of disease or markers of inflammation. Atmospheric boundary layer sources for upper tropospheric air over the Asian summer monsoon region

Previous satellite measurements and model simulations have shown that the Asian summer monsoon（ASM） anticyclone is co-located with higher concentrations of pollutants, which are emitted in the continental atmospheric boundary layer（ABL）. Backward trajectory calculations show that the air at the 150-hPa level has the maximum frequency of ABL sources within 30 days over the most intensive convection regions and their downwind areas, which are not located within the ASM anticyclone,but rather at the southern flank or periphery of the ASM anticyclone. The upper tropospheric airs originated from the ABL sources include two parts： one from the ocean, which has the dominant impact to the south of 20°N, particularly over the South China Sea（SCS） and the west tropical Pacific Ocean; and another from the continent, which is dominant between 10°N and 30°N, particularly over the Bay of Bengal（BoB）, continental India, the Arabian Sea, and the Arabian Peninsula. It is the latter part that forms the higher pollutant concentration within the ASM anticyclone as shown by satellite measurements. Air in the ABL sources（both polluted and unpolluted） converges to the intensive convection region in the lower troposphere, and then traverses the middle troposphere through a wide group of upward pipes, and finally to the upper troposphere. These pipes in the middle troposphere are defined by the ASM intensive convections and cover the south of continental India,the BoB, the Tibetan Plateau, the Indochina Peninsula, the SCS, and the Philippine Sea.

Proteome analysis of peroxisomes from dark-treated senescent Arabidopsis leaves

Peroxisomes compartmentalize a dynamic suite of biochemical reactions and play a central role in plant metabolism, such as the degradation of hydrogen peroxide, metabolism of fatty acids, photorespiration, and the biosyn- thesis of plant hormones. Plant peroxisomes have been traditionally classified into three major subtypes, and in-depth mass spectrometry （MS）-based proteomics has been per- formed to explore the proteome of the two major subtypes present in green leaves and etiolated seedlings. Here, we carried out a comprehensive proteome analysis of perox- isomes from Arabidopsis leaves given a 48-h dark treatment. Our goal was to determine the proteome of the third major subtype of plant peroxisomes from senescent leaves, and further catalog the plant peroxisomal proteome. We identified a total of 111 peroxisomal proteins and verified the peroxisomal localization for six new proteins with potential roles in fatty acid metabolism and stress response by in vivo targeting analysis. Metabolic pathways compartmentalized in the three major subtypes of peroxisomes were also compared, which revealed a higher number of proteins involved in the detoxification of reactive oxygen species in peroxisomes from senescent leaves. Our study takes an important step towards mapping the full function of plant peroxisomes.

Effects of combined pre- and post-natal protein deprivation on the myenteric plexus of the esophagus of weanling rats:A histochemical,quantitative and ultrastructural study

AIM: To evaluate the effects of protein deprivation on the myenteric plexus of the esophagus of weanling rats. METHOdS: Pregnant female Wistar rats were divided into 2 groups: nourished (N),receiving normal diet,and undernourished (d),receiving a protein-deprived diet,which continued after birth. At twenty-one days of age,13 esophagi from each group were submitted to light microscopy and morphometrical analysis employing the NAdH diaphorase,NAdPH diaphorase and acetylcholinesterase techniques. Three other esophagi from each group were evaluated with transmission electron microscopy (TEM). RESULTS: In both the NAdH- and the NAdPH-reactive mounts,the neurons of the N mounts were more intensely stained,while in the d esophagi only the larger neurons were reactive. Many myenteric neurons of N were intensely reactive for AChE activity but only a few neurons of d exhibited these aspects. Ultrastructural analysis revealed that the granular reticulum of N showed large numbers of ribosomes aligned on the outer surface of its regularly arranged membrane while the ribosomes of d were disposed in clusters. The chromatin was more homogeneously scattered inside the neuron nucleus of N as well as the granular component of the nucleolus was evidently more developed in this group. Statistically significant differences between N and d groups were detected in the total estimated number of neurons stained by the NAdPH technique. CONCLUSION: The morphological and quantitative data shows that feeding with protein-deprived diet in 21-d old rats induces a delay in the development of the myenteric neurons of the esophagus.

MYC and KRAS cooperation:from historical challenges to therapeutic opportunities in cancer
