Hair growth-promotion effects and antioxidant activity of the banana flower extract HappyAngel^(■):double-blind, placebo-controlled trial

Banana flowers contain various bioactive components, including several antioxidants with anti-inflammatory effects. However, it is unclear whether they can reduce and prevent hair loss. This study examines the effect of banana flower extracts on preventing hair loss and strengthening hair roots. The banana flower extract(HappyAngel^(■))was used to treat human hair follicle dermal papilla cells(HFDPCs)and the expression of reactive oxygen species(ROS), dihydrotestosterone(DHT), and hair-related genes(SRD5A1, SRD5A2, AR, and KROX20)were monitored. Fifty subjects were divided into a placebo group and a banana flower group. The experimental group consumed banana flower extract daily for twelve weeks and then underwent hair testing, hair-related genes analysis, collection of hair loss, and questionnaires. The results showed that the banana flower extract significantly increased hair cell growth and decreased the expression of ROS, DHT, and hair follicle growth inhibition-related SRD5A1, SRD5A2, and AR genes, and significantly increased the expression of hair growth-related KROX20 gene in HFDPCs. Consuming banana flower extract for twelve weeks increased the hair root diameter and reduced hair loss and scalp redness compared to the placebo group. Thus, banana flower extract(HappyAngel^(■))can stimulate hair growth and inhibit the activation of hair loss genes.

Neuropathic pain(NP)has become a serious global health issue and a huge clinical challenge without available effective treatment.P2 receptors family is involved in pain transmission and represents a promising target for pharmacological intervention.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)contains multiple components which are effective in targeting different pathological mechanisms involved in NP.Different from traditional analgesics,which target a single pathway,TCMs take the advantage of multiple components and multiple targets,and can significantly improve the efficacy of treatment and contribute to the prediction of the risks of NP.Compounds of TCM acting at nucleotide P2 receptors in neurons and glial cells could be considered as a potential research direction for moderating neuropathic pain.This review summarized the recently published data and highlighted several TCMs that relieved NP by acting at P2 receptors.

Numerical study of seabed response and liquefaction around a jacket support offshore wind turbine foundation under combined wave and current loading

The seabed instability induced by the transient liquefaction when exposed to wave-current may threaten the safety of offshore structures.In this study,the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)equations with the k-e turbulence model were used to imitate the fluid dynamics,and Biot's poro-elastic theory was used to simulate the transient seabed response.An in-house solver(porous-fluid-seabed-structure interactions-field operation and manipulation)integrating the flow model and seabed model with the finite volume method was developed.The present model was confirmed with published experimental results and then used to analyze the dynamic process of the fluid-seabed-structure interactions as well as seafloor liquefaction around the jacket foundation under wave-current loading.The simulated results showed that the depth and range for the liquefaction area around the jacket foundation tended to increase at first and then declined as the wave propagated forward in the absence of current.In addition,the results demonstrated that the liquefaction depth under current and wave in the same orientation was greater than that without current.It is worth mentioning that the downstream piles were more prone to liquefaction than the upstream piles when the forward current existed.

Dynamically integrated regression model for online auction data

We propose a dynamically integrated regression model to predict the price of online auctions,including the final price.Different from existing models,the proposed method uses not only the historical price but also the information from bidding time.Consequently,the prediction accuracy is improved compared with the existing methods.An estimation method based on B-spline approximation is proposed for the estimation and the inference of parameters and nonparametric functions in this model.The minimax rate of convergence for the prediction risk and large-sample results including the consistency and the asymptotic normality are established.Simulation studies verify the finite sample performance and the appealing prediction accuracy and robustness.Finally,when we apply our method to a 7-day auction of iPhone 6s during December 2015 and March 2016,the proposed method predicts the ending price with a much smaller error than the existing models.

On Total Colorings of Some Special 1-planar Graphs

In this paper, we verify the total coloring conjecture for every 1-planar graph G if either △（G） ≥9 and g（G）≥ 4, or △（G） ≥ 7 and g（G）≥5, where △（G） is the maximum degree of G and g（G） is the girth of G.

目的:眼电是脑电的主要干扰,采用眼电信号作为参考的自适应滤波能有效消除眼电干扰。然而眼电采集不方便且繁琐。在脑机接口中为从脑电中去除眼电,提出基于约束独立分量分析和自适应滤波的快速去除方法。该方法具有无需记录眼电信号且快速的优点。创新点:所提方法避免了实验过程中直接对被试者进行眼电信号采集,减少被试者在实验过程中的不适。该方法处理后的识别正确率比单纯用传统ICA算法和不进行任何处理的源信号分别提高了3.3%和12.6%。另外,该方法的时间耗费较上述两种算法分别降低了83.5%和83.8%,更好地满足脑机接口在线要求。方法:该方法分为两个阶段:第一阶段的目的是提取纯净的EOG信号。首先用ICA算法将输入信号分离成相互独立的分量(IC)。计算每个IC的峰态系数值并依据该值自动识别EOG独立分量(图2)。然后运用经验模态分解(EMD)将所识别的EOG信号自适应分解成数个IMF。根据IMF频域特征,选择数个IMF组合成纯净的EOG信号(图3)。第二阶段的目的是结合SCICA和RLS滤波算法去除混合在EEG信号中的EOG伪迹。首先SCICA利用第一阶段分离出的纯净EOG信号作为参考模板,迅速将混合在源信号中的EOG信号识别分离出。然后将该EOG信号分量作为RLS滤波器参考信号进行自适应滤波,最终去除EOG伪迹(图7)。结论:针对脑机接口脑电信号包含的眼电伪迹,提出一种基于约束独立分量分析和自适应滤波的快速自动去除方法。该方法去除效果良好,可用于脑机接口中眼电的在线自动消除。

Ganoderma triterpenoids(GTs),a class of major active constituents of Ganoderma fungi,possess diverse structures and remarkable activities.In the present study,nine new GTs,namely applanoids A—I(1—9),were isolated from the medicinal fungus of Ganoderma applanatum.Their structures including absolute configurations were established by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses and ECD calculation.Applanoids A—E(1—5)represent the first example of GTs with 6/6/5/6/5 pentacyclic system and the formation of the ether ring between C-15 and C-20 involves Michael addition reaction.Furthermore,compounds 1—8 were evaluated for their human pregnane X receptor(hPXR)agonistic activity using dual-luciferase reporter gene assay,and the results showed that compounds 1,2 and 4 can dose-dependently activate hPXR.This investigation further illustrated the structural diversity of GTs and provided new insights for searching PXR agonists from GTs.

Li-and Mn-rich(LMR)cathode materials have received tremendous attention due to the highly reversible specific capacity(>250 m Ah·g^(-1)).In the analysis of its crystal structure,the two-phase composite model gains increasing acceptance,and the phase transition behaviors in LMR cathode materials have been extensively studied.Herein,the structure controversy of LMR cathode materials,and the mechanisms of phase transition are summarized.Particularly,the causes of initiating or accelerating the phase transition of LMR cathode materials have been summarized into three main driving forces,i.e.,the electrochemical driving force,the component driving force and the thermodynamic driving force.Additionally,the applications of phase transition behavior in improving the electrochemical performance of LMR cathode materials,including the construction of spinel surface coating and spinel/layered hetero-structure are discussed.
