Variations in silicate concentration affecting photosynthetic carbon fixation by spring phytoplankton assemblages in surface water of the Strait of Malacca

The Strait of Malacca （SoM）, the world＇s busiest sea-route, is increasingly polluted as the rapid develop- ment of world trades, affecting phytoplankton primary productivity therein. The variations of surface phy- toplankton biomass, size-structure and carbon fixation were investigated across the SoM during the spring period （May 4 to 9, 2011）. Chlorophyll a concentration increased from 0.12 ptg/L at the northwest entrance of the SoM to a maximal 0.63 #g/L at narrowest section, and decreased to 0.10/.tg/L at the southeast entrance. Photosynthetic carbon fixation by phytoplankton coincided well with Chl a biomass, and increased from 10.8 to 22.3 pg C/（L.d）, then decreased to 9.21/zg C/（L.d）; while the carbon fixation rate showed an inverse pattern to the changes of Chl a, and decreased from 87.1 to 35.5 #g C/（#g Chl a.d） and increased thereafter to 95.3 btg C/（/2g Chl a.d）. Picophytoplankton cells （〈3/2m） contributed to more than 60% and 50% of the total Chl a and carbon fixation at both the entry waters; while the contributions of pico-cells decreased sharply to the minimum of 18.3% and 27.5% at the narrowest part of the SoM. In particular, our results showed that the silicate concentration positively regulated Chl a biomass and carbon fixation, reflecting that the higher silicate favoured the growth of phytoplankton and thus led to higher primary production in this strait.

The traditional method of screening plants for disease resistance phenotype is both time-consuming and *** selection offers a potential solution to improve efficiency,but accurately predicting plant disease resistance remains a *** this study,we evaluated eight different machine learning(ML)methods,including random forest classification(RFC),support vector classifier(SVC),light gradient boosting machine(lightGBM),random forest classification plus kinship(RFC_K),support vector classification plus kinship(SVC_K),light gradient boosting machine plus kinship(lightGBM_K),deep neural network genomic prediction(DNNGP),and densely connected convolutional networks(DenseNet),for predicting plant disease *** results demonstrate that the three plus kinship(K)methods developed in this study achieved high prediction ***,these methods achieved accuracies of up to 95%for rice blast(RB),85%for rice black-streaked dwarf virus(RBSDV),and 85%for rice sheath blight(RSB)when trained and applied to the rice diversity panel I(RDPI).Furthermore,the plus K models performed well in predicting wheat blast(WB)and wheat stripe rust(WSR)diseases,with mean accuracies of up to 90%and 93%,*** assess the generalizability of our models,we applied the trained plus K methods to predict RB disease resistance in an independent population,rice diversity panel II(RDPII).Concurrently,we evaluated the RB resistance of RDPII cultivars using spray *** the predictions with the spray inoculation results,we found that the accuracy of the plus K methods reached 91%.These findings highlight the effectiveness of the plus K methods(RFC_K,SVC_K,and lightGBM_K)in accurately predicting plant disease resistance for RB,RBSDV,RSB,WB,and *** methods developed in this study not only provide valuable strategies for predicting disease resistance,but also pave the way for using machine learning to streamline genome-based crop breeding.

Comparisons of carcass traits,meat quality,and serum metabolome between Shaziling and Yorkshire pigs

Supplementation of branched-chain amino acids in protein-restricted diets modulates the expression levels of amino acid transporters and energy metabolism associated regulators in the adipose tissue of growing pigs

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of branched-chain amino acids(BCAA)supplemented in protein-restricted diets on the growth performance and the expression profile of amino acid transporters and energy metabolism related regulators in the white adipose tissue(WAT)of different regional depots including dorsal subcutaneous adipose(DSA) and abdominal subcutaneous adipose(ASA), A total of 24 crossbred barrows(7.40 ± 0.70 kg) were randomly divided into 4 groups and were fed the following isocaloric diets for 33 days: 1) a recommended adequate protein diet(AP, 20% CP, as a positive control); 2) a low protein diet(LP, 17% CP); 3) the LP diet supplemented with BCAA(LP + B, 17% CP) to reach the same level of the AP diet group; 4) the LP diet supplemented with 2 times the amount of BCAA(LP + 2B, 17% CP). The daily gain and daily feed intake of the LP diet group were the lowest among all the treatments(P lin among the groups(P > 0.05). Moreover, BCAA supplementation down-regulated the expression levels of amino acid transporters including L-type amino acid transporter 1 and sodium-coupled neutral amino acid transporter 2 in DSA, but up-regulated the expression level of Ltype amino acid transporter 4 in ASA(P < 0.05), Meanwhile, the energy sensor AMP-activated protein kinase α was activated in the DSA of pigs fed LP diet and in the ASA of the pigs fed AP or LP + 2B diets(P < 0.05). The mRNA expression profile of the selected mitochondrial component and mitochondrial biogenesis associated regulators in DSA and ASA also responded differently to dietary BCAA supplementation. 背景:骨质疏松性椎体骨折是骨质疏松患者最常见的并发症。脊柱MRI作为一种新的成像技术,在诊断骨质疏松性椎体骨折方面的灵敏度远高于X射线平片。但全脊柱MRI费用高,扫描时间长。因此,对于骨质疏松性椎体骨折患者,是否都需要进行全脊柱MRI扫描以及哪些患者需要行全脊柱MRI,目前临床上尚无统一定论。目的:通过观察骨质疏松性椎体骨折患者的全脊柱MRI影像学资料,分析椎体骨折的分布特点,并探讨其临床意义。方法:回顾性分析2018年8月至2022年9月在西南医科大学附属医院骨科就诊并被诊断为骨质疏松性椎体骨折患者的病历资料和MRI图像,根据纳入和排除标准将903例患者纳入研究。收集患者一般资料(年龄、性别、体质量指数)、病史特点(病程时间、脊柱外伤手术史、叩击痛区域、疼痛评分等);通过全脊柱MRI图像分析其椎体骨折特点。首先根据患者椎体骨折数量将患者分为单椎体骨折组(n=484)和多椎体骨折组(n=419),并分析两组间的差异。然后再根据骨折椎体间的最远间隔数是否≥5将多椎体骨折组再分为2个亚组,其中A组(骨折椎体最远间隔数0.05);③A组与B组进行比较,两组患者骨密度、叩击痛区域分布及数量、低能量损伤病史相比差异有显著性意义(P0.05);④提示对于有多次低能量创伤史、病史时间大于1个月伴多重叩诊痛、骨密度较低的患者,应警惕多发椎体骨折、跳跃骨折的发生,建议这些患者进行全脊柱MRI检查。

Main seagrass beds and threats to their habitats in the coastal sea of South China

The distribution, species, biomass,productivity of main seagrasses and their sufferedmain threats are introduced and discussed in thispaper based on the field surveys in the offshore areas of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan *** seagrass beds distributed mainly in liusha Bay,Donghai Island and Hailing Island of GuangdongProvince; Hepu and Pearl Bay of Guangxi ZhuangAutonomous Region; li’an Bay, Xincun Bay, Longwan Bay and Sanya Bay of Hainan Province and soon. The total area of seagrass beds in the coastal seaof South China is about 2400 ha. There are about 8species, such as Halophila ovalis, Halodule uninervisHalophila beccarii, Zostera japonica, Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemperichii, Ruppia martime andCymodocea rotundata. These seagrasses have highbiomass and productivity. However, they are subjected to some threats resulting from artificial andnatural factors, especially anthropogenic causes,such as culture of shrimps and fishes, shellfish collection, fishing by means of poisons, electric powerand explosives as well as trawling, artificial pollution,dredging channels, and typhoons natural disaster.
