Straw strip mulching:A sustainable technology for saving water and improving efficiency in dryland winter wheat production

An improved straw mulching model may be a sustainable agricultural production technology due to its improvements in soil water and the fertilizer environment by the recycling of waste straw resources.A four-year field experiment was conducted in a randomized block design on the Loess Plateau of northwestern China in 2015–2019,which aimed to study the effects of straw strip mulching(SSM)and conventional flat planting without mulching(CK)on soil water storage,water consumption characteristics,water use efficiency,precipitation use efficiency,winter wheat growth,economic benefits,and nutrient benefits.The results obtained for the four years showed that the SSM treatment improved soil water storage in the 0–180 cm soil layer over the whole growth period,which was especially obvious in the 0–60 cm soil layer at the jointing and blooming stages.Compared with CK,SSM increased the contribution rate of precipitation to total evapotranspiration and increased it quite significantly by 20.4 percentage points in the earlier growth period.SSM significantly reduced soil water storage consumption in the 0–180 cm soil layer and ultimately reduced evapotranspiration by 11.2 mm during the whole period.In the 0–180 cm soil layer,SSM decreased evapotranspiration by 33.1 mm from the sowing to the jointing stages,but increased it by 19.5 mm from the jointing to the blooming stages.In addition,SSM improved the water use efficiency of grain yield by 21.6%and improved the precipitation use efficiency of grain yield by 18.6%,and it ultimately increased grain yield by 16.5%through improving spike number by 9.5%and kernel number per spike by 8.9%.SSM improved the water use efficiency of biomass yield by 13.5%and the precipitation use efficiency of biomass yield by 9.9%,and it ultimately increased biomass yield by 8.7%and plant height by 6.5%.Furthermore,SSM increased net income by 413 CNY ha–1 and the total amount of straw returned to the field after harvest by 8876–9619 kg ha–1.After returning straw to the field,SSM significantly increased

A novel non-invasive identification of genome editing mutants from insect exuviae

With the wide application of genome editing in insects, a simple and efficient identification method is urgently needed to meet the increasing demand for mutation detection. Here, taking migratory locusts as a model system, we developed a non-invasive method to accurately identify genome-edited mutants by using DNA from insect exuviae. We compared the quantity and quality of genomic DNA from exuviae in five instar hoppers and found that the 1st instar exuviae had the highest DNA yield and content, while the 3rd instar exuviae had the best quality. Consensus genotypes were identified from genomic DNA of hoppers at different developmental stages in the same individuals. Moreover, we demonstrated that the amplification products from DNA extracted from locust exuviae are the consensus sequences with those from the hemolymph and foreleg pre-tarsus. Therefore, non-invasive samples provide the same genotyping results as minimally invasive and invasive samples of the same individuals. Furthermore, this identification method that uses genomic DNA from exuviae can be used for early screening of positive genome-edited individuals in each generation for adult crossing. In our study, the non-invasive identification method was not only simpler and provided results earlier than existing methods, but also had a better reproducibility and accuracy. This non-invasive identification approach using genomic DNA from exuviae can be adapted to meet the growing demand for genetic analysis and will find wide application in insect genome editing research.

Urinary Creatinine Concentrations and Its Explanatory Variables in General Chinese Population:Implications for Creatinine limits and Creatinine Adjustment

Objective The study aimed to analyze the applicability of the World Health Organization’s exclusionary guidelines for Urinary creatinine(Ucr)in the general Chinese population,and to identify Ucr related factors.Methods We conduct a cross-sectional study using baseline data from 21,167 participants in the China National Human Biomonitoring Program.Mixed linear models and restricted cubic splines(RCS)were used to analyze the associations between explanatory variables and Ucr concentration.Results The geometric mean and median concentrations of Ucr in the general Chinese population were 0.90 g/L and 1.01 g/L,respectively.And 9.36%samples were outside 0.3-3.0 g/L,including 7.83%below the lower limit and 1.53%above the upper limit.Middle age,male,obesity,smoking,higher frequency of red meat consumption and chronic kidney disease were associated significantly with higher concentrations of Ucr.Results of the RCS showed Ucr was positively and linearly associated with body mass index,inversely and linearly associated with systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure,triglycerides level,and glomerular filtration rate,and were non-linearly associated with triiodothyronine.Conclusion The age-and gender-specific cut-off values of Ucr that determine the validity of urine samples in the general Chinese population were recommended.To avoid introducing bias into epidemiologic associations,the potential predictors of Ucr observed in the current study should be considered when using Ucr to adjust for variations in urine dilution.

Lake water storage change estimation and its linkage with terrestrial water storage change in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau

Tibetan Plateau(TP) lakes are important water resources,which are experiencing quick expansion in recent decades.Previous researches mainly focus on analyzing the relationship between terrestrial water storage(TWS) change and lake water storage(LWS) change in the total inner TP,it is still lack of researches about the spatial difference and the characteristic of sub-region in the inner TP.In this study,we estimated the area change of 34 lakes by using Landsat images in the northeastern TP during 1976–2013,and LWS change by using the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission(SRTM).The results suggested that LWS had shrunk from 1976 to 1994,and then expanded quickly until 2013.LWS had a serious decrease by 13.6 Gt during 1976–1994,and then it increased quickly by 35.4 Gt during 1994–2013.We estimated TWS change,soil moisture change,and permafrost degradation based on the satellite data and related models during 2003–2013.The results indicated that their changing rates were 1.86 Gt/y,0.22 Gt/y,and –0.19 Gt/y,respectively.We also calculated the change of groundwater based on the mass balance with a decreasing trend of –0.054 Gt/y.The results suggested that the cause of TWS change was the increase of LWS.We analyzed the cause of lake change according to water balance,and found that the primary cause of lake expansion was the increasing precipitation(80.7%),followed by glacier meltwater(10.3%) and permafrost degradation(9%).The spatial difference between LWS change and TWS change should be studied further,which is important to understand the driving mechanism of water resources change.

High serum interleukin-6 level is associated with increased risk of delirium in elderly patients after noncardiac surgery： a prospective cohort study

Background The relationship between inflammation and delirium remains to be determined.The purposes of this study were to investigate the association between serum interleukin-6 levels and the occurrence of delirium in elderly patients after major noncardiac surgery.Methods A total of 338 elderly patients （60 years of age and over） undergoing major noncardiac surgery were enrolled.Blood samples were obtained before anesthesia and in the first postoperative morning and serum interleukin-6 concentrations were measured.Delirium was assessed twice daily by the confusion assessment method for the Intensive Care Unit during the first three postoperative days.Survival analyses were performed to assess the relationship between the serum IL-6 level and the occurrence of postoperative delirium.Results Postoperative delirium occurred in 14.8% （50 of 338） of patients.High serum interleukin-6 levelsafter surgery were significantly associated with increased risk of the occurrence of postoperative delirium （hazard ratio 1.514,95% confidence interval 1.155-1.985,P=0.003）.Other independent predictors of delirium included increasing age,poor preoperative New York Heart Association classification,low preoperative Mini-Mental State Examination score,and high total postoperative Visual Analogue Scale pain score.Patients who developed delirium had a prolonged hospital stay after surgery.Conclusions Delirium is a frequent complication in elderly patients after noncardiac surgery.High serum interleukin-6 level after surgery is associated with increased risk of the occurrence of postoperative delirium.

为了解决现有排球机器人机械臂关节空间轨迹跟踪过程中,跟踪耗时较高、受干扰影响大、跟踪误差大的问题,提出一种排球机器人机械臂关节空间轨迹自适应跟踪方法。D-H法构建排球机器人坐标系,建立排球机器人机械臂的动力学方程,获取机械臂关节之间的关系;通过牛顿下山法求解运动学逆解集,求解最短路径跟踪过程,通过样条插值函数对排球机械臂运动轨迹展开分段跟踪,利用三次样条插值建立转角函数,确定多跟踪段区间中多个节点的约束条件,实现机械臂关节空间轨迹的自适应跟踪。实验结果表明:跟踪时间始终不超过在2s,在10N/m的力矩干扰下轨迹曲线偏移较小,仅用时18s即可回归到稳定跟踪状态,对多节点跟踪的误差为(+15~-25)cm,并且在1s内就可以修正跟踪误差,跟踪效果较好。

To the Editor:Adrenal and gonadal function can be evaluated by analyzing steroid hormone levels in different age groups,especially adolescent girls.liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS or highperformance LC[HPLC]-MS/MS)offers a combination of the physical separation capabilities of HPLC and the mass analysis capabilities of tandem MS,which improves sensitivity and specificity in measuring steroid hormone levelsJ1,21 This method is more sensitive,effective,specific,and homogenous than other methods for analyzing children’s steroid hormone levels in the clinic.Studies on the reference intervals of steroid sex hormones have more commonly performed with Caucasian subjects than with Chinese subjects.^31 LC-MS/MS-based reference intervals for steroid hormones in China,especially for healthy girls,have not yet been reported.With LC-MS/MS becoming increasingly common,the establishment of reference intervals is growing more urgent.Here,we define appropriate reference ranges for pregnenolone,17ahydroxyprogesterone,corticosterone,dehydroepiandrosterone,androstenedione,and free testosterone.

投篮机器人路径图像噪声会影响机器人路径跟踪控制效果,导致投篮机器人偏离正常轨迹,为此提出双闭环PID应用下投篮机器人路径跟踪控制方法。分析投篮机器人架构,利用OpenMv视觉识别方法采集投篮机器人路径图像,结合小波阈值算法对采集到的图像实施去噪处理,从而获取清晰的投篮机器人路径图像。根据图像去噪处理结果,将曲线拟合法与特征点检测法相结合,实现投篮机器人路径识别。根据投篮机器人路径识别结果确定路径实际偏移量,结合推动器实现位置、移动速度建立的双闭环PID控制器,从而实现投篮机器人路径跟踪控制。实验结果表明,该方法的投篮机器人路径图像去噪熊效果好、跟踪控制效果好,充分验证了该方法的有效性。
