Visual quality assessment after presbyopic laser in-situ keratomileusis

AIM： To assess visual quality after presbyopia correction using an aspheric ablation profile and a micro-monovision protocol. METHODS： This is a retrospective interventional study. Fifty-four eyes of 27 patients （mean age, 50.2±7.5y） who underwent presbyopia correction with an aspheric micro-monovision protocol were enrolled. The values of modulation transfer function （MTF） cutoff frequency, Strehl ratio, objective scattering index （OSI） and accommodation range were quantitatively assessed using the HD analyzer. Preoperative and postoperative contrast sensitivity （CS） at far （2.5 m） and near （40 cm） distance and higher-order aberrations （HOAs） were analyzed. Subjective visual satisfaction was evaluated by self-reported questionnaire regarding optical visual symptoms. RESULTS： One year after presbyopia correction, no significant differences were found in the MTF cutoff frequency, Strehl ratio and OSI, however, the lID analyzer accommodation range significantly differed postoperatively （P=0.004）. Postoperative CS at 12 and 18 cpd at near showed statistically significant improvement （P=0.020 and 0.008, respectively）. Visual performance by self-reported questionnaire revealed satisfactory results in terms of subjective visual quality improvement. CONCLUSION： Objective optical quality parameters show good visual outcomes. Subjective visual quality assessed by self-reported questionnaire in the presbyopia correction group show satisfactory results.

BACKGROUND The 5-fluorouracil-based chemotherapy combined with oxaliplatin or irinotecan is usually used in colorectal cancer(CRC).The addition of a targeted agent(TA) to this combination chemotherapy is currently the standard treatment for metastatic ***,the efficacy and safety of combination chemotherapy for metastatic CRC in patients aged above 80 years has yet to be *** To assess the clinical outcomes and feasibility of combination chemotherapy using a TA in extremely elderly patients with *** Eligibility criteria were:(1) Age above 80 years;(2) Metastatic colorectal cancer;(3) Palliative chemotherapy na?ve;(4) Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status 0-1;and(5) Adequate organ *** received at least one dose of combination chemotherapy with or without *** was evaluated every 8 *** Of 30 patients,the median age of 15 patients treated with TA was 83.0 years and that of those without TA was 81.3 *** median progression-free survival(PFS) and overall survival(OS) in patients treated with TA were 7.4 mo and 15.4 mo,respectively,compared with 4.4 mo and 15.6 mo,respectively,in patients treated without *** was no significant difference in PFS(P:0.193) and OS(P:0.748) between patients treated with and without *** grade 3/4 hematologic toxicities were anemia(16.7%) and neutropenia(10.0%).After disease progression,the median OS of patients who were treated with and without salvage chemotherapy were 23.5 mo and 7.0 mo,respectively,suggesting significant difference in OS(P = 0.001).CONCLUSION Combination chemotherapy with TA for metastatic CRC may be considered feasible in patients aged above 80 years,when with careful *** chemotherapy can help improve OS in some selected of these elderly patients.

Alginate is a biopolymer that has exceptional gelling properties, which allow easy gel formation under safe and mild conditions. Consequently, it is often used to encapsulate a variety of cargos, such as cells, enzymes, and lipids, and is typically employed as a model to study hydrogel-based encapsulation sys- tems. Since the first use of alginate in the encapsulation field in the 1970s, many methods have been developed to produce alginate hydrogel particles of different sizes, structures, and morphologies. This review provides an overview of the current progress in the fabrication of alginate hydrogels with vari- ous particle designs, including a discussion of dispersion techniques to pre-template alginate particles, gelation mechanisms, considerations in selecting suitable fabrication methods, and future directions.

Aluminum doped ZnO(AZO) nanorods were synthesized by microemulsion method with different types of *** phase and the morphology of the above nanorods were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).SEM observations showed that the ZnO nanorods had diameters around about 50—200 nm and lengths up to several *** CO gas sensing properties of the AZO nanorods were tested at operating temperatures of 200,300,350 and 400 ℃.It was found that AZO nanorods based sensor exhibited the highest sensitivity to CO at 350℃.

OBJECTIVE： Moxibustion is an important traditional Chinese medicine therapy using heat from ignited moxa floss for disease treatment. The purpose of the present study is to establish a reproducible method to assess the color of moxa floss, discriminate the samples based on chromatic coordinates and explore the relationship between chromatic coordinates and total flavonoid content （TFC）. METHODS： Moxa floss samples of different storage years and production ratios were obtained from a moxa production factory in Henan Province, China. Chromatic coordinates （L＊, a＊ and b＊） were analyzed with an ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer and the chroma （C＊） and hue angle （h~） values were calculated. TFC was determined by a colorimetric method. Data were analyzed with correlation, principal component analysis （PCA）. RESULTS： Significant differences in the chromatic values and TFC were observed among samples of different storage years and production ratios. Samples of higher production ratio displayed higher chromatic characteristics and lower TFC. Samples of longer storage years contained higher TFC. Preliminary separation of moxa floss production ratio was obtained by means of color feature maps developed using L＊-a＊ or L＊-b＊ as coordinates. PCA allowed the separation of the samples from their storage years and production ratios based on their chromatic characteristics and TFC. CONCLUSION： The use of a colorimetric technique and CIELAB coordinates coupled with chemometrics can be practical and objective for discriminating moxa floss of different storage years and production ratios. The development of color feature maps could be used as a model for classifying the color grading of moxa floss.

The Malaysian mahseer(Tor tambroides),one of the most valuable freshwater fish in the world,is mainly targeted for human *** mitogenomic data of this species is available to date,but the genomic information is still *** the first time,we sequenced the whole genome of an adult fish on both Illumina and Nanopore *** hybrid genome assembly had resulted in a sum of 1.23 Gb genomic sequence from the 44,726 contigs found with 44 kb N50 length and BUSCO genome completeness of 87.6%.Four types of SSRs had been detected and identified within the genome with a greater AT abundance than that of *** protein sequences had been functionally annotated to public databases,namely GO,KEGG and COG.A maximum likelihood phylogenomic tree containing 52 Actinopterygii species and one Sarcopterygii species as outgroup was constructed,providing first insights into the genome-based evolutionary relationship of *** with other ray-finned *** data are crucial in facilitating the study of population genomics,species identification,morphological variations,and evolutionary biology,which are helpful in the conservation of this species.
