Physical characteristics and quantitative elemental composition of PM and residual ash produced from sugarcane leaves(SCL)combustion were investigated using TEM-EDS compared with forest leaves(FRL).SEM-EDS was used to analyze the microstructure and chemical composition of biomass raw leaves and *** analysis was also performed to investigate the characterization of the crystalline nanostructure,structure of PM,and residual ash compared to the TEM image processing *** oxidation kinetics of biomass raw materials,PM,and residual ash were investigated by *** morphology of fine and ultrafine agglomerate structure of SCL soot and residual ash are not significantly different from the FRL soot and residual *** average diameter sizes of single primary nanoparticles of SCL and FRL soot are approximately 37 nm and 35 nm,while the sizes of residual ash are about 18 nm and 22 nm,*** single primary nanoparticles of soot are mainly composed of curve line crystallites of carbon fringes,while residual ash is composed of straightline lattice *** average fringe lengths of SCL and FRL soot are about 1.25 nm and 1.04 nm from the outer shell and 0.89 nm and 0.74 nm from the inner *** interlayer spacing of curve line carbon fringes of SCL and FRL soot is approximately 0.359 nm and 0.362 nm by the TEM image analysis and it was matched with XRD *** biomass PMs are mainly composed of soot,Si,Ca,and K compounds:SiO_(2),CaCO3,and KCl.

The Centre of Excellence at Okanagan College in Penticton,British Columbia is being designed as one of the most innovative and sustainable post-secondary facilities in the *** schedule for design and construction to be complete by April 2011,the two-storey multi-purpose facility has a mandate to provide trades and technology training and professional development to students from the province of British Columbia and *** is aimed at attaining the highest standard of sustainable building design,the Living Building *** building will support a syllabus with a focus on the design,installation,and support of sustainable building technologies and processes,and the development and application of alternative and renewable *** building itself will become an essential element of the educational programs that will reside there,a teaching tool for education on building trades and engineering *** addition,the Okanagan Research Innovation Centre will be incorporated into the building,providing opportunities for start-up companies to develop and prototype new green technologies in a supportive and synergistic *** article will demonstrate that a project with this level of sustainable objectives is achievable at a cost comparable to conventional building *** will address how this can be attained through an integrated design process,along with the numerous innovative features that have been incorporated into the building design to help it function with a small environmental impact,and a large educational one.

The N--N linkage in hydrazine is thermally stable when it is tetrasubstituted and there are electron-withdrawinggroups attached to the nitrogen atoms. Our research on the synthesis of polymers contaning N--N linkages is reviewed. TheN,N-bisimide structure has been introduced in the backbone of polymers as well as a pendant group in poly(aryl ether)s togive very thermoxidatively stable polymers with very high glass transition temperatures. Most of the polymers form tough,flexible films. N-Aminotriazoles also form stable imides by reaction with anhydrides and these N-imidotriazole groups havebeen introduced as pendent groups on poly(aryl ether)s. The polymers are highly fluorescent materials. Three methods for thesynthesis of polymers containing the tetrasubstituted-azine structure will be discussed: (1) oxidative coupling of bisimines;(2) condensation of bishydrazones with diketones; (3) poly(aryl ether azines) from the azine formed from 4-fluorobenzo-phenone by reaction with salts of bisphenols.

OBJECTIVES To investigate complications within 30-days following first-time ablation for atrial fibrillation(AF),including a composite of cardiac tamponade,hematoma requiring intervention,stroke or death,in patients≥75 years of age,compared to pa-tients aged 65−74 *** addition,one-year all-cause mortality and AF relapse were ***&RESULTS All patients receiving their first catheter ablation for AF between 2012 and 2016 were identified us-ing Danish nationwide *** aged 65−74 years served as the reference group for patients≥75 *** of AF within one year was defined as cardioversion following a three-month blanking period,re-ablation or confirmed relapse within *** composite complication outcome did not differ between the two age groups,with 39/1554(2.8%)in patients 65−74 years of age,versus 5/199(2.5%)in older patients(adjusted HR=0.94),95%CI:0.37−2.39,P=0.896).Patients≥75 years or older had no increased hazard of death within 30 days after the procedure,with an incidence of 3/1554(0.2%)in younger pa-tients and 2/199(1.0%)in patients≥75 years of age(adjusted HR=4.71,95%CI:0.78−28.40,P=0.091).There was no difference in relapse of AF after one year between age groups(≥75 years adjusted HR=1.00,95%CI:0.78-1.26,P=0.969).CONCLUSION In patients≥75 years of age selected for catheter ablation for AF,the incidence of periprocedural complica-tions,as well as one-year freedom from AF showed no statistical difference,when compared to patients 65−74 years of age.

Combustion characteristic and aging behavior of bimetal thermite powders

Nanothermites have been employed as fuel additives in energetic formulations due to their higher energy density over CHNO energetics. Nevertheless, sintering and degradation of nanoparticles significantly limit the practical use of nanothermites. In this work, combustion characteristic and aging behavior of aluminum/iron oxide(Al/Fe2O3) nanothermite mixtures were investigated in the presence of micron-scale nickel aimed to produce bimetal thermite powders. The results showed that the alumina content in the combustion residue increased from 88.3% for Al/Fe2O3 nanothermite to 96.5% for the nanothermite mixture containing 20 wt% nickel. Finer particle sizes of combustion residue were obtained for the nanothermite mixtures containing nickel, indicative of the reduced agglomeration. Both results suggested a more complete combustion in the bimetal thermite powders. Aging behavior of the nanothermite mixture was also assessed by measuring the heat of combustion of the mixture before and after aging process. The reduction in heat of combustion of nanothermite mixtures containing nickel was less severe as compared to a significant decrease for the nanothermite mixture without nickel, indicating better aging resistance of the bimetal thermite powders.
