The obesity pandemic is widely regarded as major health challenge for modern society. This multi-organ disorder is linked to the development of a number of prevalent diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular and liver diseases, including primary liver cancer (1). The hepatic manifestations of obesity are collectively called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (2). The increased prevalence of NAFLD parallels the global obesity pandemic and is predicted to be the largest cause of liver transplantations (1). The term NAFLD encompasses different disease states, ranging from simple steatosis (NAFL) to more severe forms of liver disease such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), with various degree of fibrosis (3). NASH may progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (4). Although NASH arising from fatty liver disease seems to be an underlying lesion for some HCC cases, the extent to which the presence or the severity of NASH explains obesity-related HCC remains unclear (5). Moreover, HCC is increasingly diagnosed among obese individuals independent of NASH and cirrhosis (6), suggesting that cirrhosis is not necessary for the development of HCC in obesity. However, the precise mechanisms that give rise to HCC in some NASH patients and not in others remain largely unknown.

This study described the structural, dielectric, and piezoelectric behavior of Pb1-xSrx[（Zr0.52Ti0.48）0.95（Mn1/3Nb2/3）0.05]O3 ceramics （PSZT-PMN, x=0, 0.025, 0.050, and 0.075）, prepared by a semi-wet route. X-ray diffraction, dielectric, and piezoelectric investigations were carried out to analyze the crystal structure. The relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss were both calculated as the functions of temperature. The room-temperature dielectric constant reaches a maximum for a Sr2＋-modified PZT-PMN ceramic with an x value of 0.050, which corresponds to the morphotropic phase boundary （MPB）. Raman spectroscopy studies also confirm the existence of this MPB for x=0.050. The piezoelectric strain coefficients （d33） value shows a maximum response for this composition. In addition, the phase transition temperature decreases significantly when the Sr2＋concentration increases in the PZT-PMN ceramics.

Reduced Order Modeling & Controller Design for Mass Transfer in a Grain Storage System

This paper considers the problem of simulating the humidity distributions of a grain storage system. The distributions are described by partial differential equations(PDE). It is quite difficult to obtain the humidity profiles from the PDE model. Hence, a discretization method is applied to obtain an equivalent ordinary differential equation model. However, after applying the discretization technique, the cost of solving the system increases as the size increases to a few thousands. It may be noted that after discretization,the degree of freedom of the system remain the same while the order increases. The large dynamic model is reduced using a proper orthogonal decomposition based technique and an equivalent model but of much reduced size is obtained. A controller based on optimal control theory is designed to obtain an input such that the output humidity reaches a desired profile and also its stability is *** results are presented to show the validity of the reduced model and possible further extensions are identified.

Synthesis and evaluation of 4-substituted semicarbazones of levulinic acid for anticonvulsant activity

Objective: A series of 4-aryl substituted semicarbazones of levulinic acid (4-oxo pentanoic acid) was designed and synthesized to meet the structural requirements essential for anticonvulsant activity. Methods: All the compounds were evaluated for anticonvulsant activity. Anticonvulsant activity was determined after intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration to mice by maximal electroshock (MES) and subcutaneous metrazol (ScMet) induced seizure methods and minimal motor impairment was determined by rotorod test. Results: A majority of the compounds exhibited significant anticonvulsant activity after intraperitoneal administration. In the present study 4-(4'-fluoro phenyl) levulinic acid semicarbazone emerged as the most active molecule, showing broad spectrum of activity with low neurotoxicity. Unsubstituted levulinic acid semicarbazone was found to be inactive in all the screens. Conclusion: The results obtained validate the hypothesis that presence of an aryl group near the semicarbazone moiety is essential for anticonvulsant activity. The results also indicate that the hydrophilic-hydrophobic site can accommodate hydrophilic groups.

Objective:To explore the effect of the protease inhibitor from Agaricus bisporus(***)Imbach(AbPI)on glucose uptake and oxidative stress in 3 T3-L1 ***:Adipocytes were differentiated and stained with OilRed-O staining to confirm *** toxic/protective effect of AbPI on the adipocytes was determined by MTT assay,intracellular reactive oxygen species generation through flow cytometry,and morphologically through confocal microscopy using propidium iodide,4,6-diamino-2-phenylindol dihydrochloride,and 2’,7’-dichlorofluorescein diacetate *** uptake of fluorescent glucose analog,2-[N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl)amino]-2-deoxy-d-glucose by adipocytes was also studied through confocal ***:MTT assay showed that the cell survival rate was(28.00±3.00)%,(92.33±2.60)%,and(71.34±2.10)%in the presence of 2 mM H2O2,AbPI alone,and AbPI and H2O2 both,respectively,in comparison to the ***-Red-O staining indicated that Ab PI enhanced *** stimulated the glucose uptake by adipocytes similar to the drug rosiglitazone,and showed insulinsensitizing effect in the presence of insulin,but failed to stimulate the uptake in the absence of *** reactive oxygen species generation was reduced in differentiating adipocytes upon Ab PI *** microscopy showed that the damaged cell population rose to 3.50%,117.84%,and 261.50%in the presence of Ab PI alone,AbPI with H2O2,and H2O2 alone,***:The protease inhibitor enhances glucose uptake by adipocytes and exhibits a cytoprotective effect on them.

In the medical field,the detection of breast cancer may be a mysterious *** must deduce a conclusion from a significantly vague knowledge base.A mammogram can offer early diagnosis at a low cost if the breasts'satisfactory mammogram images are analyzed.A multi-decision Intuitionistic Fuzzy Evidential Reasoning(IFER)approach is introduced in this paper to deal with imprecise mammogram classification *** proposed IFER approach combines intuitionistic trapezoidal fuzzy numbers and inclusion measures to improve representation and reasoning *** results of the proposed technique are approved through *** simulation is created utilizing MATLAB *** screening results are classified and finally grouped into three categories:normal,malignant,and *** results show that this IFER method performs classification with accuracy almost 95%compared to the already existing *** IFER mammography provides high accuracy in providing early diagnosis,and it is a convenient diagnostic tool for physicians.

We quantified cell membrane permeability （electrical conduc-tivity-EC, water soluble sugar-WSS, and amino acids-AA） and integrity （phospholipids,α-tocopherol and lipid peroxidation） along with food reserve deterioration （total proteins, total sugar, and total starch） of neem seeds collected from various mother tree age classes and stored for 65 days in airtight plastic containers at ambient room temperature （35±5°C）. Results show that the activities were higher in fresh seeds （EC 267.56-2950.01 μS/g, WSS 19.96-19.48 mg/g and AA 5.40-5.35 mg/g） and declined with increasing duration of storage period （EC 153.37-195.17 μS/g, WSS 3.13-4.17 mg/g and AA 4.29-4.49 mg/g after 35 days and EC 144.02-161.56 μS/g, WSS 2.06-2.40 mg/g and AA 3.98-4.27 mg/g after 65 days of storage）. Phospholipids andα-tocopherol were higher in fresh seed （0.073-0.093 OD at 710 nm and 0.080-0.105 OD, respectively） and declined as storage duration in-creased （0.033-0.042 OD at 710 nm and 00.0010-0.0020 OD, respec-tively）. Dead seeds showed reduced amounts of phospholipids and minimum activity ofα- tocopherol （antioxidants）. The level of MDA was lower in fresh seeds （0.0066-0.0087 OD at 600-535 nm） and increased as storage duration increased （0.0248-0.0268 OD after 65 days of stor-age）. The higher amount of MDA indicated that seeds died due to rancid-ity of the oil inside the seed. Neem seed cake was assessed for deteriora-tion of food reserves （total proteins, total sugar, and total starch）, concen-trations of which were higher in fresh seed and declined as storage dura-tion increased. Germination was higher in fresh seeds and after 65 days, no germination was received perhaps due to deterioration of biochemi-cals in seeds. Patterns of seed deterioration were similar across all seed lots.

Diabetes has become the epidemic of the 21 st century, and with over 90% patients with diabetes becoming at a risk of developing retinopathy, diabetic retinopathy has emerged as a major public health concern. In spite of cutting edge research in the field, how retina and its vasculature are damaged by the diabetic milieu remains ambiguous. The environmental factors, life style or disease process can also bring in modifications in the DNA, and these epigenetic modifications either silence or activate a gene without altering the DNA sequence. Diabetic environment up- or downregulates a number of genes in the retina, and emerging research has shown that it also facilitates epigenetic modifications. In the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy, the genes associated with important enzymes(e.g., mitochondrial superoxide dismutase, matrix metalloproteinase-9 and thioredoxin interacting protein) and transcriptional factors are epigenetically modified, the enzymes responsible for these epigenetic modifications are either activated or inhibited, and the levels of micro RNAs are altered. With epigenetic modifications taking an important place in diabetic retinopathy, it is now becoming critical to evaluate these modifications, and understand their impact on this slow progressing blinding disease.

Leaf Traits and Antioxidant Defense for Drought Tolerance During Early Growth Stage in Some Popular Traditional Rice Landraces from Koraput, India

Three popular traditional rice landraces, namely Kalajeera, Machakanta and Haladichudi, from Koraput, India were used to analyse the leaf traits and antioxidant defence for drought tolerance. When rice plants were exposed to different levels of drought stress by varying concentrations of polyethylene glycol （PEG） 6000, seed germination and growth parameters were significantly declined in all the rice landraces compared to the control. Drought stress also altered the leaf phenotypic traits based on chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and chlorophyll index, with more significant differences in susceptible variety IR64 than in traditional landraces. Furthermore, activities of antioxidative enzymes and proline and protein contents overtly increased under drought stress. The traditional rice landraces showed higher relative ratios for different parameters compared to the susceptible variety IR64. Taken together, the traditional landraces had superior leaf physiological efficiency compared to the susceptible and tolerant check varieties under drought stress.
