The shrinkage behavior of high performance cement concrete made from Portland cement, ultra fine granulated blast furnace slag and pulverized fly ash with addition of superplasticizer at different temperatures from ambient temperature to 120 ℃ under different seuliug conditions was investigated by means of length change measurement on cylindrical concrete specimens along with curing age. Results show that drying shrinkage deformations of titled concrete specimens increased rapidly as the curing temperature rose. The development of dryiing shrinkage deformatian can be efficiently controlled with the aid of aluminum tape sealing as compared with the unsealed specimens, especially when the curing temperature is below 60℃ , although it will increase dramatically when the curing temperature is elevated to above 90%＂ . Polymer coating on concrete specimens showed a similar effect on the control of drying shrinkage as the sealing operation with aluminum tape.

In Japan, selective thinning is a common thinning method, though line thinning receives much attention because of its economic merits. In this study, we examined effects of the two thinning methods on bird communities in Todo fir （Abies sachalinensis） plantations in Hok- kaido, Japan. We surveyed bird species in forests under four different management types - unthinned, selectively thinned, line-thinned planta- tion, and naturally regenerated forest （here after referred to as natural forest） stands - using a line-transect method. We also investigated vege- tation structure （canopy tree and understory） of these stands. Bird species richness did not differ between natural forests and plantations, while bird total abundance was greater in plantations than in natural forests. Bird species richness and total abundance were comparable among the three management types for plantations. Abundances of 10 bird species were different among the four management types, and five species were more abundant in line-thinned plantations. However, two species were more abundant in selectively thinned stands than in line-thinned stands, and they frequently appeared in natural forests. There were no distinct differ- ences in vegetation structure among the management types for planta- tions. Our results suggest that line thinning could be beneficial for some bird species in plantations.

1 Results In order to obtain liquid crystals including an ion atom as a transition metal, the ferrocene derivatives containing mesogenic group were designed with a view to prevent great bulk of ferrocenyl moiety in the molecules, because rod-like molecular shape is preferable to show liquid crystallinity. Two-dimensional self-assembly of melem at pH-controlled aqueous solution-Au（111） interfaces has been investigated by electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy. In the solutions with pH 〉 pKbl of melem, two ordered self-assembled structures （honeycomb and close-packed structures） and one disordered fibrillar structure were observed as a function of the surface coverage ofmelem controlled by the electrode potential. In contrast, in the acidic solution with pH 〈 pKbl of melem, only the self-assembled honeycomb network was observed in a relatively wide potential range probably due to the presence of monoprotonated melem cations. Dots attrib- uted to counteranions were frequently observed in the pores of the honeycomb network. The lack of close-packed and fibrillar structures at low pH （〈 pKbl） is attributed to ionic repulsion of melemium cations.

Vernalization, the acquisition of competence to flower after extended cold treatment, has puzzled researchers throughout the last century. Great progress in understanding the molecular mechanisms of vernalization in Arabidopsis has been made in the course of the last 20 years, placing the flowering repressor- encoding gene FLOWERING LOCUS C （FLC） in the limelight （Bouch6 et al., 2017）. In vernalization-dependent accessions, FRIGIDA （FRI） ensures strong expression of FLC that delays flowering, and extended exposure to low temperatures such as during winter leads to stable repression of FLC, which in turn clears the way for induction of flowering.

JT-60SA is a fully superconducting coil tokamak upgraded from the JT-60U. This paper focused on the integrity of the top lid of cryostat in JT-60SA. The design requirement for the cryostat in normal operations is to achieve vacuum insulation of 10-1 Pa, and the top flange of the top lid is lightly welded onto its body flange. The weld is tensile-loaded by bending deformation of the top lid due to vacuum pressure of external 0.1 MPa. This weld integrity is evaluated with tensile-load reduction, which results in clamp reinforcement. The structural integrity of the top lid is validated.

Strategic materials design is essential for the development of small-diameter,tissue-engineered vascular ***-assembled nanofibers of elastin-like polypeptides represent promising vascular graft components as they replicate the organized elastin structure of native blood ***,the bioactivity of nanofibers can be modified by the addition of functional peptide *** the present study,we describe the development of a novel nanofiber-forming elastin-like polypeptide(ELP)with an arginine-glutamic acid-aspartic acid-valine(REDV)*** biological characteristics of the REDV-modified ELP nanofibers relevant to applications in vascular grafting were compared to ELP without ligands for integrin,ELP with arginine-glycine-aspartic acid(RGD)sequence,collagen and cell culture *** them,REDV-modified ELP nanofibers met the preferred biological properties for vascular graft materials,i.e.(i)inhibition of platelet adhesion and activation,(ii)endothelial cell adhesion and proliferation and(iii)maintenance of smooth muscle cells in a contractile phenotype to prevent cell *** results indicate that REDV-modified ELP nanofibers represent promising candidates for the further development of small-diameter vascular grafts.

Magnetic properties were investigated for the rare-earth 3d-transition metal oxides with the perovskite structure. Intriguing magnetic phenomena were reviewed for a few systems:magnetization peak effect in the titanates, magnetization reversal in the chromites and metallic ferromagnetism in the cobaltites. The results suggest an important role of the rare-earth ions for the magnetic properties of such complex oxides.
