Candidemia is defined as being a yeast infection confirmed by the presence of at least one positive Candida blood culture. It is a life threatening infection causing high mortality. The clinical signs are generally compatible with the causative agent (whether there is a deep venous catheter or not). On the other hand and according to the 2012 Revised Chapel Hill Classification, granulomatosis with polyangiitis GPA is classified as a vasculitis associated with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies ANCA. It is a systemic disease characterized by the anatomopathological aspect of granuloma. We report the case of a patient who presented an atypical and a very rare revealing mode of GPA which was a bronchopulmonary candidiasis complicated by candidemia. Despite its controversy, the combination in the acute phase of antifungal treatment based on intravenous voriconazole and glucocorticoid therapy has made it possible to control candidemia and calm vasculitis.

Background: Meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) in the newborn is characterized by hypoxia, hypercapnia, and acidosis. MAS is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in neonates. The primary objective of this study was to estimate the frequency of meconium aspiration syndrome (MAP) in babies born with meconium-stained liquor. The secondary outcome was to estimate the meconium aspiration syndrome;in terms of hospital stay, complications, and mortality. Methods: The study was done at Aga Khan Maternal and Child Care Centre, Hyderabad, Pakistan. Study design was case series and the duration of the study was of 6 months. All patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were included in the study after taking informed written consent. A brief history was taken, clinical examination was done and laboratory investigations were sent to the institutional laboratory. Study outcomes were measured from this data i.e. MAS, its complications, mortality, and a number of days in the hospital. Results: A total of 87 babies born with meconium-stained liquor at secondary care hospital were included. Capacity for agriculture production needs to be increased to meet the demands of the increasing human population. Within alternatives for an improvement in technology of agriculture in arid and sub arid countries’ irrigation with magnetized water (MH2O). This study was carried out to investigate the nutrients taken up by plants irrigated with (MH2O). During this study, we have grown Cucumis sativus in greenhouse for one month. The growth was carried on a sandy loamy soil type with two sets of pots 1) one set of pots without MH2O, as reference and 2) another set of pots was irrigated with MH2O. The results revealed that the plants’ leaves irrigated with MH2O were enriched in Zn, Cu and depleted in Ba, Ti and Sr relative to the plant grown in control conditions and unchanged in Fe, V, Ni;Mn and Cr. The roots of the same plants irrigated with MH2O were depleted in Fe, Mn, Ti, Ba, V, Ni, Cr, Zn and Sr. Translocation of elements from roots to leaves irrigated with MH2O seems more important than for plants irrigated with ordinary water. Based on the results of this study, irrigation with magnetized water may exhibit a positive effect on nutrition of plants. In addition to the effect of MH2O on growth, content of nutrients, revealed the effect on the quality of plants. These results show that irrigation with MH2O in arid countries with reduced water resources, may help to promote agriculture for an amelioration by increasing available elements.

Introduction: Seizures are common in the pediatric age group, occurring approximately 10% of children. Hypocalcemia is one of the most common metabolic causes of afebrile seizures. The objective of the study was to determine the frequency of hypocalcemic fits in children presenting with the first episode of afebrile seizures from 2 months to 2 years of age. Methods: The study was conducted at the Aga Khan hospital Karachi and its three secondary hospitals including the following sites of Kharadar, Hyderabad, and garden. It was a cross-sectional study. The duration of the study was of 6 months from 18th July 2017 to 18th Jan. 2018. All patients who fulfill the inclusion criteria and visited the Pediatric medicine Department of Aga Khan Hospital, Karachi, and its secondary hospitals were included in the study after ethical approval and informed and written consent. A brief history was taken, clinical examination was done and serum calcium level was sent to the institutional laboratory to reach the outcome i.e. hypocalcemic fits. Result: A total of 85 children presenting with the first episode of afebrile seizures were included. Total of 45 patients (52.98%) were males & 40 patients 2 (47.1%) were females with the mean age were 10.5824 ± 6.84907 months. The hypocalcemic fits were seen in 21 children (24.7%). Discussion: H

Coal is the main energy source for electricity generation in the world. In Morocco, 37% of electricity generation comes from combustion coal in thermal power plants. This combustion process generates large amounts of fly and bottom ashes. In recent years, these ashes became a great topic of interest because of their different uses and especially in construction materials. In this work, we assess radiation risks due to natural radioactivity in samples of fly and bottom ashes collected from JLEC (Jorf Lasfar Energy Company) thermal power plant, and different analyses are performed through two nuclear techniques such as gamma spectrometry and alpha dosimetry based on the use of LR115 films detectors. Our analysis shows that 226Ra activities and 232Th in both ash samples are well above the permissible activity. The values of the external risk index (Hex) and internal one (Hin) for these ashes are below unity, with the exception of 1.28 in fly ash for Hin. The obtained values for the equivalent radium Raeq and annual effective doses Ėin fly and bottom ashes are 324 Bq/kg and 210 Bq/kg, and 0.18 mSv/y and 0.11 mSv/y, respectively. The surface radon exhalation rates for the samples of fly and bottom ashes are 276 mBq⋅m-2⋅h-1 and 381 mBq⋅m-2⋅h-1, respectively. Based on these results, we have shown that fly ash and bottom one from thermal power plant JLEC didn’t have, in any case, a health risk to the public so it can be effectively used in various construction activities.

This paper discusses the integration between GIS and hydrological models and presents a case study relating to the upper section of Moulouya River Basin (UMRB) situated in the east of Morocco. The Basin is an inland water-shed with a total area of approximately 10,000 km2, stretching in the junction between the Middle Atlas, the High Atlas Mountain and the Middle Moulouya basin. From ArcGIS ArcHydro framework data models, different parameters of the Moulouya River and its catchment area have been defined. DEM based ArcHydro model was run on Aster-GDEM V2 data at a horizontal spatial resolution of 30 meters. Several raster and vector products of the Upper Moulouya River and its catchment area have been defined at the end of the model. Final results of the models were discussed and compared with the reality. These results can be used in baseline for advanced hydrology and geomorphology research on the catchment area. They can support for decision-making on ground and surface water resource, distribution and management.

Polymeric Membranes Used in Natural Gas Processing to Separate Carbon Dioxide： the Facing Problems and Solutions

For the last two decades polymeric membranes have been used in several gas separation processes. For the high selectivity and permeability various types of membranes have been developed. Thin layers to high dense and hollow fiber to asymmetric wounded materials to determine the effective separation of CO2 from CH4 were used. Ideal membrane materials must have provisions of durability, chemical and thermal resistance, effective separation and economical production and operation. In this review it is observed that most of the polymeric materials face plasticization problem in the separation of CO2 from CH4. This is due to the condensable nature of carbon dioxide that causes swelling in most of the polymeric membranes due to which the efficiency of selectivity and permeability is affected. Most extensive works have been carried out in developing the chemical structure and compositions of polymeric materials to improve the separation properties. Cross-linking and blending of molecular sieving called ＂mixed-matrix＂ are the most useful approaches applied in this regard, but no where it is found to be fully effective and ideal polymeric membranes commercially fit to replace the existing systems of CO2 separation from the natural gas. Still area is open to work on to produce more worth full materials and switch towards liquid membranes and hybrid systems.
