Clinical translation and challenges of biodegradable magnesium-based interference screws in ACL reconstruction

As one of the most promising fixators developed for anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)reconstruction,biodegradable magnesium(Mg)-based interference screws have gained increasing attention attributed to their appropriate modulus and favorable biological properties during degradation after surgical ***,its fast degradation and insufficient mechanical strength have also been recognized as one of the major causes to limit their further application *** review focused on the following four ***,the advantages of Mg or its alloys over their counterparts as orthopaedic implants in the fixation of tendon grafts in ACL reconstruction were ***,the underlying mechanisms behind the contributions of Mg ions to the tendon-bone healing were ***,the technical challenges of Mg-based interference screws towards clinical trials were discussed,which was followed by the introduction of currently used modification methods for gaining improved corrosion resistance and mechanical ***,novel strategies including development of Mg/Titanium(Ti)hybrid fixators and Mg-based screws with innovative structure for achieving clinically customized therapies were ***,the advancements in the basic and translational research on the Mg-based interference screws may lay the foundation for exploring a new era in the treatment of the tendon-bone insertion(TBI)and related disorders.

Using sequential analysis procedures to rank the influencing factors of public work’s quality

In order to improve the efficiency in management of public work projects, screening and controlling influencing factors affecting the quality of a public work project is essential. This study synthesized 9 influential categories including 91 factors related to quality management of public works in Taiwan using a sequential analysis procedure. According to the Borda-values of influencing factors obtained from a first stage questionnaire, the number of primary factors selected by the re-sponsible entities and the design-supervisory entities were 44 and 45 respectively. A Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) was used to prioritize and rank these factors. The top five factors ranked by the responsible entities were (1) introduction of the earned value analysis, (2) working efficiency, (3) environmental laws and regulations, (4) price-index fluctuation, and (5) on-site safety management. The top five factors ranked by the design-supervisory entities were (1) man power, (2) laws and regulations, (3) price-index fluctuation, (4) traffic conditions, and (5) faulty design.

Resection of hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma:Evolving strategies and emerging therapies to improve outcome

The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is increasing worldwide,largely due to hepatitis B virus(HBV),hepatitis C virus and liver *** HBV infection is estimated to cause 55%-60% of the cases of HCC worldwide and over 70% in Asian *** resection is currently the mainstay of treatment due to the low surgical mortality,a wider treatment indication,and simplicity of post-treatment *** is an ever-increasing demand on surgeons to perform curative liver resection in HCC,with the hope of avoiding tumor *** B-related-HCC has distinct clinicopathological features,which should be considered when treating the *** author presents a review of the recently evolving strategies and emerging therapies to improve HCC postresectional outcomes and focus on perioperative measures to improve patient outcome,with particular reference to the current status of adjuvant therapies in HCC patients after liver resection.

This paper considers the class of autonomous algebraic ordinary differential equations(AODEs)of order one,and studies their Liouvillian general *** particular,let F(y,w)=0 be a rational algebraic curve over *** authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the autonomous first-order AODE F(y,y′)=0 to have a Liouvillian solution over ***,the authors show that a Liouvillian solutionαof this equation is either an algebraic function over C(x)or an algebraic function over C(exp(ax)).As a byproduct,these results lead to an algorithm for determining a Liouvillian general solution of an autonomous AODE of order one of genus *** parametrizations of rational algebraic curves play an important role on this method.

Organic dye removal and recycling performances of graphene oxide-coated biopolymer sponge

In this study, a biopolymer sponge(PS) with a crosslinked mixture of gelatin-chitosan-poly(vinyl alcohol) was dipped into graphene oxide(GO) solution to form a composite sponge(CS, GO-coated PS) by a combination of simple dip-coating and freeze-drying procedures, as a sponge-like adsorbent in organic dye removal *** morphological, chemical, crystalline, mechanical and thermal characterizations of the as-obtained sponges were further investigated for the possible changes in the structure of sponge-like adsorbent after coating the GO sheets on the 3D porous structure of PS. The results showed that the CS had possessed effectively organic dye removal performances comparing to the PS. In the adsorption, the Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models corresponding to a monolayer approach and a chemical adsorption were appropriated. The maximum adsorption capacity of Rhodamine B and Congo red reached 126.8 and 135.0 mg·g-1; and 145.6 and 148.6 mg·g-1corresponding onto the PS and CS. It indicates that the maximum adsorption capacity on the CS enhanced significantly comparing to those on the PS owing to the functional GO sheets coated in the 3D porous structure of PS, which leads to supplying further functional adsorption sides on the whole 3D porous structure of CS. Notably, the sponges-like adsorbents could be regenerated and used again without a remarkable decrease of dye removal ability occurred in 9 adsorbing–desorbing cycles. Therefore, the CS prepared in this study can become a potential adsorbent for actual applications because of non-toxic materials, proper structural features, low-cost material and operation, and reliable recyclability.

New technique:Detection and location of partial discharge in cast-resin dry-type transformers using a waveguide and a new acoustic emission sensor pair design

The acoustic emission (AE) method could be used to detect and locate partial discharges (PD) in cast-resin dry-type ***,due to the high sound attenuation in the filled epoxy,the signal is prone to interference from external noises and thus,in practice,there is little possibility of detecting *** this study,two techniques were developed to alleviate the shortcomings of the AE ***,a waveguide is installed on the high-voltage (HV) windings,so that the acoustic signals of PD will propagate to the AE sensors that are installed on both terminals of the *** location of the winding that has PD can then be detected from the difference in arrival time of the acoustic *** results indicate that the waveguide technique is able to enhance the safety of a measurement system and offers the advantages of easy installation and higher ***,a specially designed AE sensor pair is used to distinguish whether acoustic signals are generated by PD inside the HV winding or by the corona outside the *** these two techniques of waveguide and AE sensor pair not only greatly improves sensitivity but also increases the reliability of the measurement *** test results show that the new techniques can be used to locate precisely the PD in HV windings.

Comprehensive Summary This paper presents the first general examples of palladium-catalyzed desulfinative cross-coupling reaction of polyhalogenated aryl triflates with aryl sulfinate salts showing an inversion of the conventional reactivity order of C-Br>C-Cl>*** catalyst system,comprising of Pd(OAc)_(2)and tBuPhSelectPhos,exhibited excellent catalytic reactivity and chemoselectivity toward this *** reaction had a wide range of substrate scopes and provided a simple and efficient method for the construction of functionalized biaryl ***,the C-H···Pd interaction from the methine hydrogen of the C2-cyclohexyl group of the indolyl phosphine ligand with the Pd center may contribute a key factor in reactivity and *** with density functional theory(DFT)calculations,the results revealed that the oxidative addition step in this reaction was a controlling-chemoselectivity step.

Xianfeng？ Houfeng？ Youfeng？-An analysis of selected contemporary Chinese architects, Yung Ho Chang, Liu Jiakun, and Wang Shu （1990s-2000s）

The three contemporary Chinese architects, namely Yung Ho Chang, Liu Jiakun, and Wang Shu, have often been labeled as the ＇avant-garde＇ or xianfeng architects in China. In response to the xionfeng architect labet, Wang claims that he is a houfeng （rear-guard） architect because of his obsession with traditions. This paper aims to discuss the appropriateness of labeling these architects as ＇avant-garde,＇ xianfeng, or houfeng. Through the theoreticat anatysis of western discourse, notable attributes of the western architectural avant-garde are identified, and a tentative framework is developed to test its validity and usefulness in a non-western context. The term youleng is arguably a better phrase to describe these three Chinese architects considering the heterogeneous trajectory of modernity in China.

Within-Cluster Variability Exponent for Identifying Coherent Structures in Dynamical Systems

We propose a clustering-based approach for identifying coherent flow structuresin continuous dynamical systems. We first treat a particle trajectory over a finitetime interval as a high-dimensional data point and then cluster these data from differentinitial locations into groups. The method then uses the normalized standarddeviation or mean absolute deviation to quantify the deformation. Unlike the usualfinite-time Lyapunov exponent (FTLE), the proposed algorithm considers the completetraveling history of the particles. We also suggest two extensions of the method. To improvethe computational efficiency, we develop an adaptive approach that constructsdifferent subsamples of the whole particle trajectory based on a finite time interval. Tostart the computation in parallel to the flow trajectory data collection, we also developan on-the-fly approach to improve the solution as we continue to provide more measurementsfor the algorithm. The method can efficiently compute the WCVE over adifferent time interval by modifying the available data points.
