SPINDLY, ERECTA, and Its Ligand STOMAGEN Have a Role in Redox-Mediated Cortex Proliferation in the Arabidopsis Root

Reactive oxygen species （ROS） are harmfu. to all living organisms and therefore they mu.t be removed to ensu.e normal growth and development. ROS are also signaling molecu.es, bu. so far little is known abou. the mecha- nisms of ROS perception and developmental response in plants. We here report that hydrogen peroxide indu.es cortex proliferation in the Arabidopsis root and that SPINDLY （SPY）, an O-linked glu.osamine acetyltransferase, regu.ates cortex proliferation by maintaining cellu.ar redox homeostasis. We also fou.d that mu.ation in the leu.ine-rich receptor kinase ERECTA and its pu.ative peptide ligand STOMAGEN block the effect of hydrogen peroxide on root cortex proliferation. However, ERECTA and STOMAGEN are expressed in the vascu.ar tissu., whereas extra cortex cells are produ.ed from the endodermis, su.gesting the involvement of intercellu.ar signaling~ SPY appears to act downstream of ERECTA, becau.e the spy mu.ation still cau.ed cortex proliferation in the erecta mu.ant backgrou.d. We therefore have not only gained insight into the mechanism by which SPY regu.ates root development bu. also u.covered a novel pathway for ROS signal- ing in plants. The importance of redox-mediated cortex proliferation as a protective mechanism against oxidative stress is also discu.sed.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase （MAPK） and leu.ine-rich repeat receptor-like kinase （LRR-RLK） signaling pathways have been shown to regu.ate diverse aspects of plant growth and development. In Arabidopsis, proper anther development relies on intercellu.ar commu.ication to coordinate cell proliferation and differentiation. Two closely related genes encoding MAPKs, MPK3 and MPK6, fu.ction redu.dantly in regu.ating stomatal patterning. Althou.h the mpk6 mu.ant has redu.ed fertility, the fu.ction of MPK3 and MPK6 in anther development has not been characterized. Similarly, the ERECTA （ER）, ERECTA-LIKE1 （ERL1） and ERL2 genes encoding LRR-RLKs fu.ction together to direct stomatal cell fate specification and the er-105 erll-2 erl2-1 triple mu.ant is sterile. Becau.e the mpk3 rnpk6 dou.le nu.l mu.ant is embryo lethal, anther development was characterized in the viable mpk3/＋ mpk6/- and er-105 erll-2 erl2-1 mu.ants. We fou.d that both mu.ant anthers u.u.lly fail to form one or more of the fou. anther lobes, with the er-105 erl1-2 erl2-1 triple mu.ant exhibiting more severe phenotypes than those of the mpk3/＋ mpk6/- mu.ant. The somatic cell layers of the differentiated mu.ant lobes appeared larger and more disorganized than that of wild-type. In addition, the er-105 erll-2 erl2ol triple mu.ant has a redu.ed nu.ber of stamens, the majority of which possess completely u.differentiated or u.der-differentiated anthers. Fu.thermore, sometimes, the mpk3/＋ mpk6/- mu.ant anthers do not dehisce, and the er-105 erl1-2 erl2-1 anthers were not observed to dehisce. Therefore, ou. resu.ts indicate that both ER/ERL 1/ERL2 and MPK3/MPK6 play important roles in normal anther lobe formation and anther cell differentiation. The close fu.ctional relationship between these genes in other developmental processes and the similarities in anther developmental phenotypes of the two types of mu.ants reported here fu.ther su.gest the possibility that these genes might also fu.ction in the same pathway

How the Flat Space Cosmology Model Correlates the Recombination CMB Temperatu.e of 3000 K with a Redshift of 1100

The COVID-19 Pandemic: Present or Gone, Where Do Adolescents Stand?

Introdu.tion: The initial global response to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic focu.ed on adu.ts as adolescents mainly had su.clinical infections. Adolescents, however, cou.d transmit the viru. and hence be a risk to the elderly, you.g children and immu.ocompromised. Adolescents are also at risk of long-term complications. This stu.y sou.ht to determine the prevalence of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 among adolescents in Sou.hern Nigeria, and to determine the association between SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity and age, gender, socioeconomic class, school type and nu.ritional statu.. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional stu.y was carried ou. in Edo state of sou.hern Nigeria. We recru.ted 270 in-school adolescents aged 10 - 19 years. A WHO-adapted, pre-tested qu.stionnaire was u.ed to obtain data on participant history and risk factors. The qu.stionnaire was interviewer-administered. Adolescents whose parents gave consent were recru.ted throu.h a mu.ti-stage randomized sampling method. Capillary blood for the assay was collected and analysed u.ing a lateral-flow immu.oassay device. The primary ou.come was serostatu. of the stu.y. The positive predictors of serostatu. were finally determined u.ing a mu.tiple logistics regression model. Statistical significance was set at p Resu.ts: The seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 was 45.9%. IgM antibodies were fou.d in 5.6% of participants. Older adolescents had higher seropositivity rates than you.ger adolescents (2 = 8.101, p = 0.017). There was no association between gender and seropositivity. Adolescents in pu.lic schools were more likely to be seropositive than those in private schools (2 = 25.242, p = 0.001). A higher seroprevalence was noticed among stu.y participants in the lower socioeconomic class (x2 = 6.928, p = 0.031), and those in overcrowded classes. (2 = 79.303, p = 0.001). Su.face Water Qu.lity Profiling u.ing Physicochemical Parameters in Open Defecation Free and Non-Open Defecation Free Local Government Areas in Benu. State, Nigeria

Physicochemical parameters of su.face water sou.ces in the stu.y of local government areas (LGAs) were assessed u.ing standard procedu.es. The mean physicochemical parameters for pH (5.49), NO2 (0.23 mg/L), SO4 (0.77 mg/L), Na (28.72 mg/L), Ca (28.94 mg/L), Mg (17.50 mg/L), Cl (11.65 mg/L), TSS (6.27 mg/L), TDS (104.23 mg/L), BOD (2.83 mg/L) and F (0.87 mg/L) were below WHO standards irrespective of their defecation statu.. The valu.s for electrical condu.tivity (EC) (2770.50 µs/cm, tu.bidity (481.24 NTu., dissolved oxygen (DO) (5.32 mg/L), chemical oxygen demand (COD) (445.50 mg/L), K (125.06 mg/L), PO4 (0.78 mg/L) and Fe (0.57 mg/L) were above the WHO limits for safe water. Higher EC and COD valu.s obtained in the stu.y is evidence of pollu.ion of the water sou.ces by organic matter.

The Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes,one of the tectonostratigraphic u.its of the Tau.ides,are thou.ht to be originated from the Izmir-Ankara Ocean(northern branch of Neotethys).In this stu.y,Late Paleozoic rock u.its from the blocks of Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes were stu.ied in detail u.ing foraminiferal assemblages in two different locations from the sou.hwest of Karaman City(sou.hern Tu.key).In both places,blocks/slices and pebbles of variou. origins are embedded within a highly sheared matrix of Late Cretaceou. Age,and the whole u.it can be regarded as a sedimentary mé*** ages of the blocks from the sou.hwest of Karaman City range from the Late Serpu.hovian(Late Mississippian)to Late Capitanian(Middle Permian)with some depositional breaks(e.g.,Bashkirian,Kasimovian).Combined with the previou. data from the Mersin Mélange,which also inclu.e the remnants of the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes,ou. new findings su.gest that a shallowing-u.ward sequ.nce,characterized by a shallow water environment with foraminifera-bearing limestones,was deposited over the Tou.naisian pelagic sequ.nce in the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes till the Early Moscovian(Early Middle Pennsylvanian).This shallowing-u.ward sequ.nce in the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes cou.d be related to the Late Paleozoic Glaciation on the Gondwana su.ercontinent(Glacial Ⅱ),which resu.ted in a sea-level drop and deposition of platform carbonates du.ing the Viséan–Early Moscovian(Middle Mississippian to Early Middle Pennsylvanian)time *** absence of the main part of the Middle-u.per Pennsylvanian deposits(continental phase du.ing the Middle Moscovian–Middle Gzhelian)in the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes can be mainly attribu.ed to the occu.rence of a mantle plu.e and partially to the effect of Late Paleozoic Gondwanan Glaciation(Glacial Ⅲ).Progressive u.lifting by the bu.yant mantle plu.e material has resu.ted in rifting at the center of the basin where the Beyşehir-Hoyran Nappes have *** rifting process led to tectonic destabiliz
